  1. "You'll find that you like very little else," he glanced towards the medical center, "now where are you going?" ----- "We only consult my wife after you get through me," Caden tilted his head, "and I haven't heard a good enough reason to add you to our payroll, yet."
  2. Fischer locked eyes with her, his eyes turning to a glare as a sense of recognition swept across him. "Yes, you are." He grabbed her hands with his and held her in place. "Where are you heading?" ---- "Presumptuous and visibly aging," Caden noted. He glared at the shorter man, "no one works in this castle without my permission."
  3. "Right now I'm almost late, and you're not helping with that," Fischer said as he tried to push pass the woman, trying to take little notice of her to keep himself going forward. ----- "Are you, now? Then where the blazes have you been the entire time she's been here?"
  4. "Apologies," Fischer grumbled as he recovered from being knocked back, "I'm in a bit of a rush and I didn't see you there. Are you alright?" ----- Caden perked up, hand reaching to his side at the sight of the vaguely familiar man. "I suggest you jog my memory before I have you jog out back the door. My time is valuable, I suggest you avoid wasting it if you have any attachment to your life."
  5. "It's the leas' I can be doing for you, Nico." He nodded his head slightly to the slightly younger man, then turned and walked towards the door. Just as he had closed it behind him, he leapt forward to rush back towards the Barracks, not seeing the serving woman standing in his way until it was too late. ---- With his fingers cramping from hold his pen for too long, Caden stood up from his table and stretch quickly. "You may enter." He assumed it was one of the serving staff, as his wife had a tendency to never knock anymore.
  6. "Well, you should be believing me, because it's true." Fischer glanced at the clock on the other end of the room, cursing it for how fast it ran. "I hate to be leaving you like this, bu' I gotta return to the barracks." A memory came to Fischer when he glanced at the door, noting the palace colors that the guard wore. "An' I'll be asking tha' we get a Praetorium up here to watch ya, just in case."
  7. "No, I've seen terrible people before, Nico." Fischer locked eyes with him, matching the intensity he saw. "You are not one of them."
  8. "Now why the blazes do ya believe that? Why do you think you even need some grand redemption at all?"
  9. "While we 'ave incredible trainin' and experience, the importan' bit is tha' we think we're the best. Because of tha', we go about trying to live up to tha' belief." He paused, considering his next words carefully. "It's the belief in yourself that will take you the farthest, we can only help you on the way."
  10. "You stop. Tellin' yourself tha' is doin' ya no good. You wanna know par' of the reason the Preatorium Guard is the best?"
  11. "Then give the blazing girl some credit." He sat down, leaning forward towards Nico. "Both us see somethin' in ya tha' we no' only think is worth somethin', but worth fightin' for. So le' me ask ya, do you trust us?"
  12. "Then don' say you're worf nothin'." Fischer stared Nico down, "do ya think she's a clever girl?"
  13. "Tell me, wha' do ya think you're worth to tha' Wendy girl?"
  14. "Anyone who even considers hur'in' someone like you is definitely at least wondering of they're evil. Besides, wha' could you ever do ta be justified stabbin' over?"
  15. "'Ain't evil?' Now I'm wonderin' if you're insane." Fischer stood up, placing his hands on his hips. "She blazing stabbed ya, how is tha' not evil?"
  16. 'The woman who stabbed you is insane? Why the blazes would you think that?!"
  17. "She- No." Fischer shook his head, "she'd never do tha' to ya. Or she wouldn' 'ave back before I-" He cleared his throat, "before I left."
  18. "I'm no' needed fer du'y for a while." He stretched, "besides, I can't have the person who did tha' to ya coming back to finish the job."
  19. "As long as the medic says, bu' I'll stay wif ya as long as ya like."
  20. "Well, no' exac'ly." Fischer looked away, "but you were pretty drunk."
  21. "Wha's be'ween you two?" Fischer asked, raising an eyebrow.
  22. "Oh calm down," Fischer said with an eyeroll, "I've seen more shirtless men ven I can coun'." Despite his words, he made it a point to keep his eyes only on Nico's face.
  23. "Woah," Fischer lifted his hand to stop Nico. "Ya still need some rest, not even the general could shrug off somethin' like tha'."
  24. The light peaked through the Praetorium guard's eyes as Fischer tried to stifle and yawn. The side of the table that he had been leaning against dug into his side until he groaned and shifted. When he did, he saw Nico stirring and sat up immediately, trying to blink away the sleep that tried to hang onto his eyes. "Nico, are you awake?" Fischer whispered softly, trying to keep it low enough to avoid waking the man up if he were asleep.
