Quick moderator note: keep things respectful, kind, and understanding. Posts that are not will be removed.

Weird rule. By default you are telling every religious person that they are plain wrong and their entire life is a lie when you say that there is no god/s. It is always disrespectful. The only way to avoid this is to not speak about it at all.

    God does exist.
God is a human made concept. Therefore it exists.
I consider the laws of nature as god as they dictate what life and reality is. Even though we only understand a fraction of nature and can only perceive a fraction of reality.

Bottom line, we are unable to fully comprehend "god", but it exists.

    Nightblood is killing Vessels

A Vessel is still just a human and Nightblood needs to be weilded. It does not act on its own like the Father Machine does. Nor does Nightblood have the ability to suck in souls from afar.

    Shards like Ruin and Odium

The point is that it was not done by Shards. It was done by humans. Ruin could directly influence humans. Harmony does as well. It is very strange that entities that should be highly cosmere aware are not able to steer their followers into the right directions to create other forms of WMDs. The fight between Ruin and Preservation was mostly done by Scadrians.

No need for that when he has access to machined that are easily able to kill the followers of his enemy shard.

Autonomy also wants to control other planets, not to destroy them

No one is talking about destroying the planet. The easiest way to bring a planet under control is to eradicate the inhabitants and repopulate it with people loyal to you.

In the WOB you posted Brandon even admits that things like that, even if they push the boundaries, are possible. She should have never gone there.

    Yoki-Hijo don't grant Spirits' wishes

    You misunderstand.

If spirits are the ones that choose Yoki-hijo then why must Yoki-hijo perform anything to attract them. Yoki-hijo are chosen by something above spirits. By a Shard or its remnants. The process is not specified. Priests will point out the signs that someone is a Yoki-hijo. If there are no priests then who would read the signs and train the Yoki-hijo? Outside of her invested art Yumi was not aware that she was special. If no one introduced the current Yoki-hijo to the invested art then they would most likely never even notice that they are different from normal people.

We do not know whether or not Yoki-hijo exist anymore. If new ones exist. Or if the process required to even have Yoki-hijo exists anymore.
Having no need of them does not mean that there aren't any. The world moved on when Elantrians became powerless. They still existed. Returned were made even before a cult formed around them. There was never a need for Returned either.

  4. Spirits choose Yoki-Hoji

Yoki-Hijo attract spirits to grant wishes

Sounds kind of stupid and circular. I doubt "the spirits" actually choose the Yoki-Hijo. More like they exist, get pointed out (by the spirits) and then selected.
There may be more Invested people now, but how would they know? They grow up that way and never even recognize they are different from anyone else.
The OG Yoki-Hijo are also dead and the actual process of creating them may not even exist anymore.

Look at the WoB I've provided - you need an external source of investiture if you want to soulstamp yourself into a Mistborn/Feruchemist, like a jar of Dor.

I know this WoB and others about this topic. That is why I included the "dump a lot of Investiture at the problem" part. The WoBs I am aware of make it theoretically possible to accomplish, if hard.
Feruchemy is the way to go since it is end neutral. There is no Investiture used. You would only need external Investiture to charge the metalminds again.

Mistborn as long as your jar has some Dor in it. The moment it runs out, you no longer have any powers

You only need to be a Mistborn for a fraction of a second to make it work. There is a difference to having the power and using the power. The problem is getting it in the first place.

    On 10/26/2023 at 1:41 PM, alder24 said:

Basically, as far as we know right now, no matter how hard you try, if you forge yourself into a Mistborn, you need to give the Soulstamp lots of investiture

You can store the abilities you get as a Mistborn into a metal mind. Becoming a Mistborn and staying one by means of a Soulstamps is extremely hard and requires a lot of Investiture. Storing the ability should not be. If you manage to become a Mistborn for long enough to create a Metalmind with it you bypass the part that requires excessive amounts of Investiture the next time you need to use the ability.

    a spike is permanent

A spike is not permanent. The moment you remove the spike the ability is lost. Leaving a spike in the body would open yourself to having your soul tampered with.

The point I am making is to inprint what spikes do into your soul without a need for a spike to remain inside you. Basically what is happening with cognitive shadows, just for living beings.

    A Soulstamp is temporary

I never said anything about Soulstamps being permanent. Except they can be permanent, like when Shai feared to become an Elantrian for real. Even Brandon says that it only might wear off not that it definitely will.

If you can become a Feruchemist by using Soulstamps then you could make yourself some really nifty items like Metalminds that grant you the ability that Spikes do (or make your own Bands of Mourning), but without the repercussions. After you are done with charging your Metalminds you can then Soulstamp yourself to be an Allomance and compound the entire thing.

    Spoiler

    Questioner (paraphrased)

Would it be possible to use a soulstamp to give or take Allomancy?

    Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Not under normal circumstances. The amount of Investiture required to do so would effectively short-circuit the stamp.

American Fork High School Signing (Dec. 12, 2019)

Leaves room open for "it might work".

    Spoiler

    Dairetron

If there was enough Investiture available, would a Forger be able to soulstamp lerasium, take it, and then remain a Mistborn after the stamp has worn off?

    Brandon Sanderson

No, they would not remain a Mistborn. They would be able to do it during the time that they... It would wear off. Because their genetics would change back.

Tampa Bay Comic Convention 2023 (July 28, 2023)
    Spoiler

    Questioner

If a Mistborn were to burn a metal that's been Forged by a Soulstamp, is there a different effect from another, or?

    Brandon Sanderson

So they Forged it from one metal into another metal?

    Questioner

    Yes.

    Brandon Sanderson

So once they started to burn it, it would break the Forgery and it would turn back into its original metal. So you'd have just the briefest moment of getting what it said it was and then it would go back to the other and then if you were a Misting of the wrong type, you would get no more from it.

    Questioner

    What about Feruchemy or Hemalurgy?

    Brandon Sanderson

So Feruchemy and Hemalurgy. You would have a lot of trouble Investing it because it's already Invested. So you would run into troubles right away trying to Invest it, because it's already got all the Investiture messing with it. You could theoretically make it happen, but it would take enough work and conniving that it just wouldn't be worth it.

Starsight Release Party (Nov. 26, 2019)

According to this you can at least make yourself an Allomancer briefly. Which should be enough to store the ability in a Metalmind.

Becoming a Feruchemist through Forgery should be easier (as its end neutral), if not consistent, since all you need to do is make yourself the kid of a Feruchemist or Ferring and hope for the best.

  7. Spiking is always temporary. The best way would be to find a way to make what the spikes do permanent.

A Soulstamp could make someone into an Elantrian. Why not make yourself "spiked" without actual spikes?

Many abilities are not location bound like Sel magic. Make a Soulstamp that you ate Lerasium.

For questions like this the usual answer is "a lot Investiture". A lot Investiture is able to alter the Spiritweb permanently. The same should work with abilities given by spikes. Dump a lot of Investiture on the problem.

"while not having a negative effect on the planet."

Why would invention have such a limitation and even if he did why would his people?

I am not saying that it has. I say that you have a very narrow frame of mind if you think that Inventions intent must lead to space faring civilizations just because ours and others in the Cosmere did.

I'm not so sure about him not having the same reservations at least in regards to other people

If he did not trust Sigzil he would not give him the Dawnshard in the first place. Wit may not care if someone has too much power. After all he witnesses 16 people splitting up the ultimate power among them. And the Sleepless may be aware of things that Wit isn't.

Also remember that the sleepless wouldn't let a person with a Spren hold a dawn shard.

Sig may have been forced to give up the bond to take up the dawn shard.

I doubt Wit would have the same reservation as the Sleepless. And maybe oaths are really able to overwrite the limiting factors for a Dawnshard. There has to be some way since the Dawnshards were used offensively at least once.

Simplest explanation on why he switched is because he realized that the Humans on Roshar were the aggressors. This realization would break his oaths. With honorspren anyways.

  11. This is possible as long as you can get a fuel source (Investiture) into the inside of the arm. I am not sure at what rate an awakening object needs Investiture to keep on functioning. There is kind of conflicting information. Could be a little, could be a lot. Depends on the type of awakening and so on. But theoretically possible I would say.

Then again, why not just make Aluminum armor?

  12. Anyone who is highly invested is ageless and functionally immortal.

Radiants are never even close to it and I see little possibility for them to increase it.

I really wonder what the limitation is that keeps radiants from sucking in as much Investiture as they want.

  13. This again is Raoden guessing what is happening. He doesn't know.

But as you see he is aware of all the tell tale visual indications of the Reod Elantrians. Yet he never mentions or notices an absence of them on anyone.

Not the old Hoed nor the freshly fallen Elantrians. No one in the book does. Black spots all over aren't easy to miss.

There is no visual difference indicated in the entire book between original Elantrians and post Reod Elantrians.

The reason why both pre Reod and post Reod Elantrians look the same is because they suffer from the same ailment. The rest is conjecture.

    Quote

However, the Elantrian healer drew Aon Ien slightly wrong—and instead of just vanishing, the character flashed and bathed the poor woman in a reddish light. She was left with black splotches on her skin and limp hair that soon fell out. Sounds familiar?"[/quote]

The red light indicated corruption. Like a corrupted, slightly wrong drawn Aon. Corrupted AonDor left the woman in a similar state as Reod Elantrians except for the wrinkles. What the Ire and Riino are experiencing post Reod isn't corruption. It is a lack of Connection and Investiture. So they shrivel up. Old Elantrians were subjected to the same Corruption of Dor as the new Elantrians so it makes sense that they are afflicted by the same splotchy skin.

while Ire have uniformly dark skin

This would be so clear to see on the Hoed then. Its not something you could miss even when trying.

the Ire and Riino lack a stable connection to the Dor

The glowing jars of the Ire looks like the Investiture jar. Maybe they also restore Connection, but idk. This is how they sustain themselves. The connection is required for the Aons. Riino in SA is post Reod. Everyone post Reod would look like this.

    as they completed their transformation

The quote the book. It should not be hard. There is no visual difference mentioned or noted. You assume that the transformation has visual cues. It does not reflect in the book.

The Ire were also differently affected by the Reod. Why? Because their body was already in a similar state:

That WoB could mean anything. Its not really specific now, is it? Is it referring to a difference in SR and PR? Something else entirely?

He conned Kel by pretending to be bad at lying just so he could lie at a more important moment.
