  1. Wow! I have just finished the book and what a read it was!

Something that really clicked with me was the introduction of the machine and how the implications and the reactions of the people reflect something about technological progress in real life. It is a subject I have chewing on in real life a lot this year and I love that this book gave so much food for thought and questions about the positives and negatives of this, it will give me something to chew on for a while.

Jasnah is awesome because her morality is a rational, reasoned one. She's the quintessential philosopher-king. She's what Taravangian wants to be: relentless, almost ruthless pragmatism nevertheless tempered with altruistic motivations.

That summarizes very well in my opinion. I love all the philosophical questions Brandon puts in his works and the different points of view of Jasnah, compared to Dalinar or others is great food for thought. Jasnah is precisely as you put it here, and that does not make her style and philosophy better or worse than others. It has its pros and cons. The moment of finally not killing Renarin was so good, but I could not agree with her suggesting killing of all the heralds. The fact that she brings it up makes me like her, she is never afraid of putting anything on the table. I hope my ramblings are coherent enough to make my point :).

I'm still entertaining the idea that, even though ascended, Mr T is still affected by the boon/curse, and that it wasn't random but directly controlled by Cultivation, and after being filtered through him the Shard could flip it's Intent based on his level of apathy/compassion between Odium and Passion. That would leave Cultivation with the ability to flip that switch at just the right moment on the day of the contest, handing the victory to the Radiants. it all sounds like a very Cultivation-y plan to me

Very interesting! Two things do not sit right with me however. 1. Is Cultivation right or is she miscalculating? Can she control another vessel? 2. What is the end game of Cultivation? Is she a actually a "force for good" or does she want to remain as the sole shard in the system for her own reasons?

It seams to me that everyone is so concentrated in finding Tode's loophole, so none really thinks about the possibility of Dalinar using this loophole to win.

    Theory time:)
-Stormfather is a sliver of Honor and the biggest piece of honor shard on Roshar
    - Dalinar bonded to Stormdad and this him unique bonsmith (Stormdad always awe at what Dalinar can do with his abilities)
    - what other big pieces of Honor do we know? Honorblades
    - what if Dalinar bonded almost every blade and they together with the stormdad sliver will be enough for Dalinar to ascend

If i'm right Dalinar will have a "got you" moment on Tod when he becomes practically immortal and the killing part is the main clause of their agreement. it will be a nice ending for first five and Tod will be forced to find another loophole for the book 6

I like the way you are thinking, but getting all honorblades in 10 days seems too difficult to me. Getting the blades of Jezrien, Taln, Ishar and Nale in time would likely require them to be in the same position, which might happen, but does not seem likely.

The way of thinking about an immortal champion is nice,  it might make for a kind of oathpact 2.0, except that the anti light discovery means time is kind of running out. It is good food for thought at least.

Seems like Dalinar et al seem to think they need to pick a human to fight another human. No reason the champion has to be a human or even a being from Roshar.

It would make sense to me if the champion is at least able to consent to being the champion, I would not expect that Odium could pick a chasmfiend. A spren or other sapient being however, that does sound possible.

What I wonder however, we still do not exactly know what ties Odium to the Rosharan system before the contract, do we? He would still need to find a way around that.

Hello @Uvara, welcome to the Shard. Have you read Emperor's Soul?

Thanks. Yes I have, it was the second cosmere book I read after Elantris. I enjoyed it, but is a while back, maybe I will reread it in the near future :)

  7. Thanks for the advice! Favorites is like picking a favorite child, but here goes:

Shardworlds: I would say Scadrial, I really like the difference between the grim beaten world of era 1 and the industrialized era 2, which gives me a bit of Victorian vibe. I am not sure I would like to live in any of these times.

Magic system: I would say hemalurgy, maybe it’s because I am an engineer and I like my magic a bit more scientific.

Character: Taravangian, I am not saying he would be a friend, but I find his worldview fascinating and I am really curious how his condition will play out in the SA’s long game.

  8. Hi all,

After reading most of the cosmere (I haven’t read White Sand, but I have no experience with graphic novellas, so still in a bit of doubt there) I have been reading up on a lot of theories here. I think my time here will, at least for now, still be reading a lot, but thanks for having me!
