Mike woke up, back in the snow. He groaned as he sat up. Where am I? He heard footsteps crunching in the snow as they approached him. "Hello, Michael." His heart nearly stopped and he looked up to see who had spoken, though he had heard that voice a thousand times before. It was his mother. @The Aspiring Archivist

I'll be o- The water surged and pushed Erin upwards, out onto the snow nearby.

The water was freezing, and it was almost impossible to see anything. Mike was nowhere to be seen. Erin! Get out of the water! Mike's voice said in their mind. You'll freeze to death!

He didn't.

The water sloshes where Mike fell in, and Erin's hand touches only water.

Mike wished he had another coat to give to Erin. He carefully made his way down the riverbank, making sure to stay a step ahead of them. After a few minutes of this, he turns to talk to Erin. "So, how d-" Ice cracks, and he falls into the freezing water, completely submerged.

"Let's go further down. Maybe there'll be a way across there."

Mike wrapped his arms around Erin, trying to warm them up. "How about I go first from now on?"

Mike pulls Erin up out of the water. "I've got you. Are you okay?"

"Erin!" Mike called out. He reached for their arm and tried to pull them out.

"I guess we can look for one... Which way should we go?"

"Like what?"

"I could go in a little further and see how deep it is."

Mike quickly stepped back, his right foot now wet and cold. "Well, that's not reassuring."

Mike smiled reassuringly. "I'll be okay." He tentatively took a step onto the ice.

Mike shrugged. "Long enough for you to get me out."

"I could walk on it first. If I fall in, I'll just heal up."

Mike held them back. "Wait. We don't know how thin that ice is."
