  1. Nico furrowed his brow. "Oh, now, darlin', you ain't gonna die, not on my watch." He felt himself tear up. "I'll never say no again. She's awful, she is, if she hurt anyone else... She only gets to hurt me."
  2. "Mal, Wendy, I just woke up, I ain't heard nothin' 'bout them. But I doubt Alli would go after them."
  3. "Aww, you poor darling..." Nico held her close and kissed her forehead.
  4. He sighed. "Stars know you should give up on me, miss."
  5. "If I'da just said yes like I was supposed to, miss, none of this woulda happened. Of course it's my fault and don't you say it's yours 'cause - 'scuse my language - it sure as Mal ain't yours."
  6. "Dear Stars, this is all me fault..." he mumbled as he carried her out. "I'm gettin' you to the healin' ward, alright?"
  7. “Right then. I thinks I can carry ya.” He gently began scooping her up.
  8. “Looks like she hit you over the head real hard, my dear.” He tsked. “Does you think you can walk?”
  9. “Shhh. It’s alright. Nico’s gotcha.” He rubbed her back.
  10. Goarn came back with the keys and unlocked the door. The moment he did, Nico rushed into the cell and gave Wendy a hug.
  11. “Imma get you out of here.” He sighed. “I told you, Wendy, Allivia is too much for ya.”
  12. “Well, let her out!” Nico demanded of the guard. “She ain’t done nothin’ wrong. Allivia Nordy put her in there, an’ she don’t deserve it.” “Okay, okay…” Goarn hurried over to get the keys. Nico knelt down. “What happened, Wendy?”
  13. Nico was awakened by a knock at the door. He groaned and rolled over to look at the door, but when he did, he fell out of bed. There was a loud thump on the floor and a rustle of blankets. ”Who is it?” he said, his head of messed up hair poking up from the blanket. ”Goarn, sir. Guard from the dungeon.” Oh, no. Did I do somethin’ wrong? “A girl is calling for you? Black hair, real pretty. A waitress I think.” ”Oh!” Nico stumbled out of his blanket and opened the door, unconcerned about being in his boxers. The guard blushed. “Uh….. You’re coming in that?” Nico looked down and his eyes widened. “Oh dear. One moment.” Indeed, one moment later, he was back in a robe. “Let’s go!” ”okay then….” Goarn led Nico to the cell downstairs and Nico rushed over. “Wendy! Oh no, oh, no. It was Allivia wasn’t it, I told you she’d do somethin’ like this….”
  14. Riva stared at her hideous reflection in the mirror. Her tears had made her mascara run, leaving trails of black down her wrinkled cheeks. She was usually able to convince herself that her age wasn't that much of a problem, but that was utterly impossible now; she was a monster and it was no wonder Caden couldn't stand her. While she cleaned up her face and removed her makeup, she sobbed steadily but quietly. Daku had come back earlier that afternoon with the new furnishings she'd asked for and now the place looked very different from the sparsely-decorated chamber she'd been met with the night previous. You could hardly tell that the general had once lived here. Yet the more she thought about it, the more restless she grew. Stealing Caden's room had been a stupid move. He already hated her and she had not forgotten that he could kill her at any moment. Second chance my ass, she thought. You sent me here to die a slow and painful death, Ivian. But she had no idea how to proceed. Would Caden respect her more if she gave it back? Or would he see her as submissive and feel he could push her around? She ultimately decided that she would give the room back, but not tonight. He was likely still quite heated and she did not want to interfere with him while he was. The torturess plopped down onto the soft bed, the plush mattress making her shaky breathing quiet some. The embrace of the pillows felt like a sweet, loving hug. Or, she assumed it did; she'd never actually been hugged before, but it sounded nice enough. Warm and comforting. Of course, a torturess didn't deserve warmth and comfort, she knew that. She just couldn't deny herself the luxury... Riva soon fell asleep, fully dressed and on top of the covers.
  15. Riva screeched in anger, but resisted throwing things like that stupid man had. She would not stoop to his level, no matter how hard it was to push down the urge. Who did he think he was? Letting some random scavenger take a look around in her office?! Thank the Stars she was moving out and hadn't had full access... Gah, he didn't even ask! He just... Stars, it would be a miracle if Caden didn't annoy her to the point that she'd murder him. Riva sat down in her chair again, stabbing her meat and cutting into it vigorously. That IDIOT! She knew in her heart that she should give him more leverage - the journal had proved he'd been through a hard time - but she just... she just couldn't stand him! Maybe he deserved love, but only an angel could love that ingrate and Riva was far from one. Idiot man, he probably hadn't even meant what he'd said about her-her-her eyes... And leading her on by letting her touch his hand... Actually holding a conversation with her. Enjoying his stars-cursed tea. She shouldn't be crying over this, she really shouldn't be. But apparently her tears didn't care. She ate with trembling hands, sorrowful droplets falling onto her plate. I will never tolerate you! Witch, witch, witch, witch, witch! "Oh, stop crying, Riva, you fool," she mumbled to herself through ugly sobbing. She was holding her fork like a life line, knuckles white as snow. The food that had tasted so good at first now felt like a flavorless weight in her mouth. What had she thought was going to happen? That they'd ride off into the sunset of friendship and live harmoniously forever in their shared villainy? Forget him never tolerating her, she would never tolerate him. She hated him! She hated him more than anything. To think, she'd wanted to go to a blazing ball with the man. Dance with him, by the Stars, she'd sooner choke on these vegetables and die. What did it matter that she'd dreamed about having someone to do that with for her entire life? Her husband was an uncaring brute who could kill her at any moment and no one would care. No one would ever care.
  16. "Oh, go to Mal!" Riva yelled again, shaking with fury.
  17. "Oh, get a thesaurus, fool, I'm far more than just a witch!" she yelled at him as he left.
  18. "And you," Riva growled, jabbing a finger at him. "You've never cared about anyone in your life. You're a slimy, no-good, grumpy old man and that is why no one will shed a tear when you die. Stars, I wish that tea I'd given you had been laced with poison. The birds will sing at your demise, you idiot, and children will weep with joy."
  19. She smirked and stood, throwing the chair back behind her. "I. Drugged. Your. Tea!"
  20. "Harass you? I made you tea, your ungrateful little bastard. And yes, it was drugged with something to loosen your tongue, but we were having fabulous conversation before this."
  21. "Do you want your room back, Caden?" she hissed. "Do you?!"
  22. "That doesn't mean you don't have to ask! If he took something..."
  23. "You had no right to do such a thing! There are things in there, that... Why you little..." She clenched her fists.
  24. Because you're on a drug, idiot. "You let him into my office?" she growled.
