  1. "Oh, now why's that, miss? Not that nice a home? Weren't you the princess, miss?"
  2. "O'course, miss, o'course! I think you'll be a fine queen, princess. It'll be nice to have you around."
  3. "Jesters friendly 'nough, I'm supposin'. But court's a pit of vipers, it it. Can't trust nobody. 'Cept me o'course." He gave her a toothy grin. "You ever needin' somebody to-a tie up your corset you know where to find me."
  4. "Okay, okay, miss. The man our king is talkin' to just now? That's Cadon. Nasty bastard, that. Violent one. But he leads the army, so I might be supposin' that's just part of the job to do." He pointed at a slender woman in a dark blue dress. "That there's the Raveness. You step outta line too far and you'll be in her dungeons. She's a witch, see. Testin' potions on prisoners, seein' how loud she can make 'em scream. She's a mystery, ya know. Been at court longer than any of us, prob'ly 'cause kings are too scared of her to take her out. Stay out of her way and you'll be good to go." Then, he moved his finger to point out the jester. "That ones the jester, I don't have to tell you that. But I been hearin' rumors that he and the Raven are an item." He chuckled. "Wild thought, until you sees them together at every ball, chattin'. Nobody else talks to the old Raveness, after all." Nicolae moved on to two men seated near the throne. One was in a wheelchair. "Young disabled one's the king's little brother. Ivian can be a bugger, but he's got a soft spot for the boy for some reason. Star's only know why. And at the end of the row, that's the king's advisor. Most powerful noble in court." He rubbed his hands together, grinning with pride at his knowledge. "That help ya, princess, miss?"
  5. Nicolae nodded in understanding. "Ah, I see now. I got tabs on everyone, miss, who do ya wanna know 'bout?"
  6. "Anyone else, miss? How d'ya mean? Anyone else who could tell ya? Or anyone else he treats like dirt?"
  7. But Nicolae only shook his head of messy brown hair. "I'm-a sorry, miss. I may be a gossip, but I don't go spreading rumors 'bout my king. You don't need to know how rotten he treats staff anyway, you're only gonna be married to 'im, eh?" He winked.
  8. "I could tell ya what I should say, but I'm thinkin' the truth might nota be to your liking, miss. Wanna keep this handsome head on my shoulders, yeah?"
  9. "It's-a hard workin', miss, but it's-a good job, I suppose. With all the scumbaggery in court, it's-a goodun thing to have a stable job."
  10. "Why thanks, milady!" Nicolae beamed.
  11. "I am sir Nicolae Kimby! The king's personal attendant." He winked, and produced a napkin that he had nimbly folded in the shape of a flower, offering it to the princess.
  12. "You are, I presume, the King's betrothed? I didn't know he had such taste. And I spend more time around him than anyone!"
  13. Nicolae looked up to find his king gone. He shrugged and looked over at the young princes. A giddy smile spread over his face and he waved flirtatiously. "Hello there, lovely!" @Condensation
  14. "I don't know, Jassir," said Riva. "But I'll call upon you when I need you." She winked and walked away, hips swaying back and forth fluidly as she did so.
  15. Riva smirked as she watched Cadan leave, then bowed dramatically to Jassir. "You have been saved, my good jester," she said flatly. She turned to walk away, then peered over her bare shoulder. "You know, I'd take a favor as payment."
  16. Oh, fine, Riva thought. He did deserve one. Cadon was a bully and if he ended up in her dungeons, Riva wouldn't complain for a moment. The Raveness strode up to the action, her feathered dress dragging on the floor. Its skirt was designed to make it look as if she were floating. "What seems to be the problem here?" she asked in her smooth, alto voice, slender hands on her hips.
  17. Riva smiled softly as she watched the entertainment. She knew that she had the power to end the scuffle if she so desired, but she was far too pleased with how this was going to do anything of the sort.
  18. A Tale of Silver and Gold, Maverick read. "Hmm," he muttered to himself. It was a fantasy novel, one he'd read before, years ago. He'd rather liked it when he was younger. As he'd grown, however, his interests for free-reading had turned towards more grounded mystery novels like the one he read now. He considered getting up to ask the young lady to dance - and even started getting out of his seat to do so - then chickened out, blushing. She was a King's Lady! Even still, he could hear his brother's mocking voice in his head: You coward! C'mon, brother, you haven't danced with anyone in years. Have yourself a little fun for once, get your head out of those books. Maverick blushed deeper and smiled, shaking his head. He hunched beneath his novel's pages to hide his red face.
  19. The blood rushed back to Maverick's face. "You're welcome," he muttered sheepishly. Then he sighed, walking back to his own table to read his own book. As he did so, he peeked over the cover of it to see what the King's Lady was reading.
  20. Okay, so I just randomly pictured this scene from A New Hope.

But with Preservation giving Marsh a medal for letting Vin Ascend.

      I mean, he deserves it!!

  21. Since Cadan was only an inch taller than Maverick and Maverick had exceptional posture, it was rather hard for him to feel cowed. He cleared his throat. "If you intend to report me to the king, I doubt you'll be met with much support from him. A petty argument with a baron? Embarassing. All the same, my name is-" He cut off when the lady drew a dagger, eyebrows raising with surprise. Well then... he thought, feeling foolish. This girl probably hadn't needed his help after all. That was unexpected.
  22. Maverick resisted the urge to chuckle in time with the lady. "I find it odd, sir, that despite your high title, you are so insulted by the words of a low ranking noble. It appears you want to fight with me physically because you lack the ability to duel with words. I'm truly sorry for your lack in that skill."
  23. Maverick rolled his grey eyes and folded his wiry arms. "I have backbone enough to stand up to you, so it seems. I would venture to say that you're the coward here, bullying a perfectly harmless young lady for no reason."
