If I were an Epic... I would have one long staircase just going up, and one even longer coming down; and one more leading nowhere, just for show!
I cannot express how much I loved this comment, I love a good Fiddler reference

@SandersonFanderson If it makes you feel any better, if he ever goes back to Reckoners, he'd do a Mizzy book. That's why he didn't get into it in Calamity, because he wanted the freedom to change it. His current idea is something involving detonations.
I was not aware of the detonations. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be cool!

This is honestly my favorite series, and Prof was definitely a favorite character of mine. His character development is really awesome!
I loved Calamity, except all the plot twists thrown into the epilogue
SpoilerBut that could be because I'm mainly upset that Mizzy got powers and we didn't find out what they were

My Sanderson story:
In the eighth grade, I went to a Michael Vey book release party. Four other authors were there with Richard Paul Evans, one of which was Brandon Sanderson. Steelheart had just been released, so Sanderson was talking about it. I thought "hmm, interesting." I later checked it out from the library, then unfortunately didn't finish. A few years later, I had a gift card to Barnes and Noble and didn't know what to get with it. I saw Steelheart and said "I never finished this, I'll give it a shot." A few months later, I finally started restarted it. Well, I loved it so much I had to read Firefight and Calamity, and then when I ordered Skyward online as soon as I could. And now, here I am!

So I just had this thought: What if Prof directed a play and David was the stage manager? This resulted in a series of vignettes I wrote between David and Prof. My friend wrote a couple of these so I will post mine and then post the ones she did. Spoilered for length, this has no actual spoilers.
Mine
Spoiler*Prof talking to other Reckoners*
Prof: I'm just not sure how to end this musical number
Cody: They all dab
Prof: That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard
David: *Barges into room* DID SOMEBODY CALL FOR THE STUPIDINATOR
Prof: I told you to never say that word again
*Prof talking to David*
David: So I heard you're directing a play
Prof: What you've heard is true
David: So am I going to be in it? I mean, I've got the looks, I could be your leading man.
Prof: David, you'd ad lib the whole thing
David: And what's wrong with improvising?
Prof: Actually...I have the perfect position for you.
David: Sweet, so do I get my script now or...
Prof: *sets a script on the table* Start getting a prop list together, you're going to stage manage
David: So I won't have any lines? Or do some of these wicked dance moves? *Dances awkwardly*
Prof: I'm...uh...afraid not
My Friend's
Spoiler*Rehearsal*
Prof: *to actor* Keep swirling the brandy throughout the scene.
David: *Spontaneously dumps brandy over actor's head*
Prof: David, what are you doing?
David: Wouldn't that make it more interesting?
Prof: Whatever, go do some paperwork or something
*Party*
Prof: *Talking to a woman, hitting it off quite well*
David: *Approaches Prof, ironically swirling Brandy* Oh, hi there. I'm Prof's stage manager.
Prof: *Whispering* David, you weren't invited to this party. How did you get past security?
David: Well, I have my ways.
Prof: What did you do?
David: I kind of snuck in through the...*gestures to ceiling panel on the floor, then to the ceiling, which is missing a panel*
Prof: David, please leave
One We Both Made
Spoiler*Prof and David Talking*
Prof: We're choreographing the big number today. Are the yo-yos ready?
David: Uhh, about that...
Prof: What is it this time?
David: Well, you see, they're a little broken. They don't yo no mo.
Prof: *about to scold him* That one was actually okay.
David: Really?
Prof: No.

If it's because they are sourced in entirely different magic sources (Earth Magic vs Life Magic or some such) then the Elementalist's telepathy likely isn't even operating on the same fundamental principles as "real" Telepathy, such that it can mimic some of the more rudimentary applications but is simply physically unable to accomplish the more advanced applications. So an elementalist that can bend light and a shapeshifter that can change their skin can both appear to become invisible, but they are getting there by different paths so the Ligthbender will never be able to grow claws and the shapeshifter will never be able to fire a laser beam.
Another way to go is to make the distinction more about cultural Mindset than literal genetics. In your example, maybe a successful Elementalists has to be so focused on bludgeoning Primal Energies to do their will that they become unable to take the softer, more cooperative approach necessary for subtle telepathy, or are too externally focused to be able to reach the Sympathic and/or Introspective mental-space needed to connect to another form and Shapeshift. Then maybe somewhere along the road a person is born of both, or reaches a mental balance between the two, and learns to Shapeshift into a Rock Golem.
I like these ideas, thank you!

I was wondering if anyone could provide some input on the magic system in my novel. It's not fully fleshed out yet and I need some help developing it.
The wizards in my novel have certain types of magic that they are born good at, and others that can be developed over time. There are also aspects of it that they can never master (example: A character who is born exceptional at influencing the elements. They struggle with telepathy, but they can still perform it to some degree. However, they are never able to shapeshift). My question is: What could be a determining factor of the magic they can and can't do?
My friend had the idea that it could depend on genetics and ancestry, say someone who's ancestors were from Antarctica had power over heat and fire. Or we had an idea that maybe wizards with different powers came together in clans a long time ago and they all migrated to different places, meaning that where you're from could determine your power set.
I'm just trying to come up with a better plan for my magic system, since it's not very together at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I still would have liked to find out what happens to the characters, even 1 sentence. David and Megan get married and have 9 children. Megan brings Fireflight's Tia over to spend time with the Prof. Cody gets kidnapped by leprechauns.
I would not be opposed to a fourth book where all of these things happen...

Uh... isn't it illegal to detonate any type of bomb in any state/country?

I believe so, but apparently especially in Utah

You can stimulate a cranial nerve in your brain (called the vagus nerve) by singing really loud
There are some weird muscle names, but my favorite one is the gastrocnemius. You'd guess it's in the stomach, right? No, it's in the leg.
It is illegal to detonate any nuclear weapon in Utah

Thanks for all the tips!! I go in to take rhe ACT tomorrow. Fortunately I'm pretty good at English (I score around 30-31 on most practice test, the highest possible is a 36) and also we're taking them online this year, so I have the passage on the left side of the screen and the questions on the right. Science is alright, I just need to watch for minor details that might trip me up. I'm reviewing a few concepts tonight before bed, but I'm getting to bed early tonight so I can be refreshed and awake when testing starts. Thanks for the test-taking tips and study tips, I'm hoping for an overall score of 28. Hopefully I do well enough on the stuff I'm good at that it makes up for the stuff I'm not great at, but I'm still reviewing what I struggle with one more time tonight!

Okay so rant time.
I've been in hospital for a week and it's literally been awful. Most of the staff have been lovely, but being in hospital so young sucks. I'm 19. Last week I was in a four bed room, and then another four bed room, now I'm in a single. Being in the second four bed room with 3 elderly ladies until I got a single room was awful. One lady was nice but the other one was awful.
She:
-got confused and took my phone while I was in the bathroom and my cousin stopped her.
-went to my food tray and almost touched my lunch (I got very nervous because I don't know what's on her hands)
-kept coming into my part of the bed cubicle when I was hinting 'I'm sick GO AWAY' (THE CURTAIN WAS DRAWN!!!) and was seconds from buzzing the nurse to tell the patient to go away.
At least this week I have a bit more energy and I'm not as weak and not throwing up as much, not everyday. I'm so stressed and I've been having trouble walking. The doctors know this but I want my life back. I miss my job, I miss my best friend, I miss my karate lessons!! I miss my own bed!
And as of now, 11pm, a man is yelling down the hall. shut. up.
I relate to you, I was put in the hospital about a year and a half ago at age 15, it was awful. I couldn't eat because my body rejected basically any food and I ended up with a feeding tube for a while. I was literally starving to death until that point and being in the hospital was so awful, you feel like the world is passing by you and you can't do anything to catch up with it. I hope you get better soon. *Hugs*

So I just felt like I needed to post this here. I'm taking college entrance exams this week! It's kind of scary to think about because the score I get on it could get me a nice scholarship to the college I want to go to. I'm pretty nervous about the test because my practice quizzes could be better. They aren't bad but I need to get them a little higher. Anyways, anything helps. Study tips, test-taking tips (especially math-related, that's the one I need the most help with), and whatever else you can think of. Anyway, thanks for reading this and letting me vent!

A less popular author is Braden Bell/Brandon Gray. He kinda disappeared after publishing his middle grade novel, "The Missing Heir of Mandalray" (Italics have stopped working on my computer for the moment). After that, he posted no writing updates and I wondered where he went. But I did see recently that he's planning on releasing a couple sequels to a couple of his books this year, so I'm looking forward to that!

in The Reckoners
Posted
1. The ability to make any item a slightly lighter shade than the color it already is
2. You have illusion powers but only the ability to make people see a single can of Sprite in front of them
3. The power to summon blueberries. You can only summon one at a time, and you hate blueberries
