  1. I just finished the Sunlit Man today and I wish I had it to read again. It was so good. I read Brandon Sanderson's notes afterward and I love that he unapologetically used his favorite Western trope - stranger comes to town and helps the townspeople. He finds a home and wishes he could stay, but the evil pursuing him drives him away again. Kung Fu, the Mandelorean - I felt so sad for him at the end. He's lost his only real sort-of friend and he can't every stay anywhere long enough to put down roots because of the Night Brigade being after him. I was disappointed that Brandon said in the afterward that he didn't have any more books planned about our protagonist's adventures. The world of the novel was so interesting - a tiny, slowly rotating world near a giant sun and the inhabitant's having to move constantly to stay ahead of the deadly sunlight. I have such an interesting mental image of the small craft all latching together to become a floating city.
  2. Yeah me too. I feel like Brandon Sanderson spends over a decade writing all this and I read all the books in 6 weeks. Just found out Warbreaker is in the Cosmere, so that will be my next book.
  3. Thanks for answering. I scrolled back three or four pages to see if I could find a thread on this, but there wasn't one recently. Era 1 was set in such a dystopian nightmare world, but the spirit of swashbuckling adventure that flows through it makes me forget sometimes.
  4. Whatever happened to the four kidnapped women from Alloy of Law? At the end Wax demands that his uncle release them, but I've seen no mention of them in the next two novels, other than a reference that they still suspect the set is trying to breed an army of allomancers. Here's the thing. Our heroes believe that these women are being held in some horrible Handmaid'sTale-esque reproductive slavery, and they don't seem especially concerned. All through the second book, I was asking myself, "why aren't they tearing apart Elendel looking for these women?" Now I got a partial answer in book three where apparently they HAD been tearing apart Elendel trying to stop the Set, but had no success. Still there was no further reference to the kidnapped women after Alloy of Law. I re-read the ending a few times to see if there was a reference to the women being released, but I couldn't find one. In the timeline of the series, these women have been held for a year and a half. The implications are horrific. I kind of hope the 4 women will turn out the be the masterminds behind the Set. That would be much less terrifying. I'm also hoping I missed something and maybe they were rescued and I just missed it. Anyone know?
  5. I've read The Emperor's Soul. I'll try Warbreaker. I can't wait for the 4th book of mistborn era 2 comes out. That narrative took a sharp left turn I wasn't expecting. I like it when things get shaken up.
  6. Remember - Harmony recreated the world using his Copperminds - the copperminds were filled by his people in their travels around the Empire. However, it's likely none of people ever reached the southern hemisphere. The power of preservation and ruin comes first and the knowledge of how to use the power later. Sazed had an advantage of having collected a great deal of the world's knowledge in his copperminds, but he wouldn't know about the Southerners at the time.
  7. Just finished Mistborn Era 2 and my favorite character is Wayne.
  8. Can they? Wayne from Era 2. Definitely. I actually prefer Era 2 to Era 1. Though it might be that, as a Californian, a red sun and ash-filled skies are a little too realistic for me. :-)
  9. Hi. I was telling a co-worker that I hadn't read any fantasy in a long time because I was starting to feel like everything was the same and nothing surprised me. He recommended Brandon Sanderson. I checked "Way of Kings" out of the public library and next think I know I'm using "storming" as a cuss word and seeing spren everywhere. I decided to look for fan forums because I really want to talk about the books with someone. My husband isn't into fiction (he's all about "true crime") and I switched jobs and no longer get to eat lunch with my Sanderson-loving co-worker. I've read the Stormlight Archive Books, Elantris, The Original Mistborn Trilogy and Alloy of Law. I've also read The Rithmatist and the Legion stories. What should I look for next?
