We did not believe we were, soul-of-the-one-who-would-protect. But it is effortless, soul-of-the-moon. We do not take pleasure from waste nor avarice. This is simply who we are. Why do you with souls breathe? We can find no explanation for this action; it is not because, is merely is.

Why would one cause suffering upon another for any specific purpose? That would simply be cruel, to hurt another in the interest of furthering oneself. If it's not for a reason you can name, it's not beyond reason to claim.

At first she was tense, but as the wind killed her field of vision by using her hair and they streaked past everything at dizzying levels, she realized...this was fun. By the end of it, she was grinning. "That was awesome," she muttered, then glanced around. "Maybe the flashing lights? They look a bit like police lights, almost, except white." She noticed that Joy had kept up with them.
