  1. I like Eshonai, and her mother. Venli is complicated, she's a bit "moashish".

And I really like Rlain and I'm hoping to see much more of him in future books.

But what I like more about the singers/listeners, is their singing culture. So, I'm hoping for more singers and more of their history and culture.

Two pages and nobody mentioned my number one loose end:

How did we get through a whole book of Dalinar flashbacks, and yet we don't know where Gallant came from?

I don't think that's a loose end, I think we'll know much more about Rhysadiums later on. "Plate, blade and mount".

I say that because I'm dreaming about Kaladin on a Rhysadium... hehe

And about Kholinar, wasn't it originally just Kholin's capital city? Alethkar has been a kingdom for not really a lot of time. But surely Dalinar will try to take the city back, I bet.

  3. I don't think Kaladin's arc was a step back in OB, it is more like he's actually dealing face-to-face with an issue that has bothered him forever and has stopped him from saving more persons: his inability to accept that he cannot protect everybody.

When I went through deep depression issues, my psy used to tell me "you cannot pour water from an empty well. if you want to take care of others, you've got to take care of yourself".

I think that applies to Kaladin arc's in OB: he actually has to take care of himself in order of protecting others. But we need to see his struggle to actully and fully enjoy the moment in which he accepts he's gonna accept some defeats, take care of him and shine that plate!!

As for Shallan's arc... she's always been someone complicated for me. I dunno if I really like her character or hate it... but it did surprise me how deep she went in OB, so I guess I'll be even more surprised with anything she'll do next book.

    Journey before destination ;)

Just because Lopen acts cheerful doesn't mean he's not hurting inside. We have literally no idea about his background. And we know Teft has been through a lot of stuff and he always seemed pretty damaged to me.

And Shallan was lightweaving when she was a child, even before all the tragic backstory we know about happened.

That! I'm pretty sure Lopen has a super broken soul, but the same as Shallan, he's able of covering it with a smile and he makes everyone else's world better. I love Lopen!

  5. And they seem to "atract" the same kind of persons.

Shallan's team is also starting to develop lightweaver habilities, and they're spies and liars.

Kaladin has chosen people with difficult paths as his.

Even Lyn with her ambition of chaniging woman roles may have such a background.

I don't feel it is more "cheap" now. Just different.

And I'm so deeply inlove with Teft's arc, that I cannot complain.

  6. Alethkar is *already* falling because of how its feudal/cast system worked.

There's no more a capital. Armies have been defeated, thousands of alethkis are already dead or running for their lives.

The lighteyes ultra high rights were given by Vorinism, and all of its truths are being challenged by how the World is changing.

Brandon is giving us a long social transformation history and it's amazing.

That said, I do think Moash *had* reasons to be angry, but also, he didn't see that you don't build a new society just by destruction. You need to actually build something new and different.

His ambition turned him blind and he betrayed those he actually loved. Now he's empty and that's just so sad.

I think at the very end of his confrontation with Kaladin, he'll ask for his forgiveness, and will die in Kal's arms.

    My 2 cents.

  7. Is there a thread for discussing The Passions ?

I'm very fond of the idea of them being something really important. Like, the original religion of humans in Roshar. Odium being "Passion", it'd be a religion worshiping him. When did humans leave it for Honor adoration?

Sorry, not on-topic, but The Passions spin in my head.

    (Love the idea of Roshar-sprens)
