  1. The actual bands were described as being a swirl of several different metals that were able to make the holder into a Fullborn. I assumed his eye spike was the same way. This way he would get all of the powers, but his soul is only spiked once, so no one can seize control of him
  2. This actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that. Any speculation on other metals? I'm curious what something like Bendalloy would do
  3. @The One Who Connects Wow, that's an interesting WoB. I can see why he's having so much trouble for Wax though. The other two big examples make logical sense. Tin enhances your sense so much that you become dependent on it (almost like a drug addiction) and your senses barely work without it. When you Soulcast too often, parts of you start to slip permanently into the CR. Both make sense. What's the equivalent for Steel though? It's not like his legs are going to wither from lack of use (he still walks around regularly) and he doesn't need to slip between realms to use either of his powers. The only thing I can think of is to treat it like an addiction. Give him cold sweats/the shakes when he doesn't have a little burning.
  4. I think you're definitely on the right track, but Brandon has said that Wax is a steel savant (or becoming one), but he doesn't see like that. That's why I think that eyesight is involved. Being blind probably makes the process easier/quicker, but an Allomancer could probably accomplish the same thing by practicing long enough with their eyes closed
  5. I wonder if you need to become blind to be able to do that, or if you could accomplish the same by closing your eyes (and practicing a lot)
  6. We do know that doing this is insanely complex. The Lord Ruler had a whole laboratory for experimenting with this, and never managed to make anything other that the Inquisitors, Koloss and Kandra, which he learned about when he held the power of the Well. So 1000 years of experimenting with no good results. Basically, you're not creating any stable hemalurgic beasts without help from Ruin's Vessel (good luck). As a side note, I remember Marsh saying that the internal organs of Inquisitors move around as part of the process. Like his heart was in his gut or something. I don't remember specifically what moved where
  7. Inquisitors have it in the eye but BoM spoiler: I think the reference to steelvision here is about how Marsh describes being able to see the trace metals in everything around him (which doesn't happen to normal users of steel) and that's how he can see, since he doesn't actually have eyes anymore. So normal steelpushing you see normally, but get the lines when burning the metal, where eye-spiked steelvision you can only see via steellines, but the steelvision is much more powerful/detailed
  8. This wasn't supposed to be an actual theory. Just something interesting to think about. A Surgebinder with one of the more destructive surges who happens to have a Duralumin spike... Devastating This is more what I was talking about with the "interplanetary war" comment. Brandon has made some comments that we would get to see users of different magic systems fighting each other later on, and since we have a few immortals running around, there will be familiar faces involved. So some sort of war that involves peoples from different planets, but not necessarily Roshar vs Scadrial vs Sel or anything like that. I want to see some multiethnic groups with in depth knowledge of Realmatics hack the crap out of several magic systems and go at it.
  9. I really hope we see some weird combos like this during the interplanetary war of Era 4
  10. Duralumin+Division=Shattered Plains
  11. Now you're just trying to make heads spin
  12. Is that even a thing? To break an oath I think you need to actually do something
  13. Now that you mention it, I do remember that. Now I'm actually curious what the SF was talking about Edit: Ninja'd by RShara
  14. In WoR she comments to Dalinar that she was never really in love with Gavilar. I took that scene to mean that she wasn't faithful in her last marriage. This is a good point though. She will definitely be interesting to watch
  15. Threads like this are literally why I come to The Shard. Of course, these are just the 10 known pancakes. Sometime during Dragonsteel or Mistborn Era 4, we will discover there are really 17 pancakes. One for each Shard, and the Unseen Pancake for Adonalsium. Each pancake is a perfect illustration of the complex nature of one of the 16 Shards, and only by eating all 16 in one bite, can you reach nirvana and become one with god.
  16. This should probably be moved to one of the Part X Reactions threads, no? Just so no one accidentally spoils it
  17. Well taking the Honorblades/starting the tradition of training on them, capturing the loose Shards and naming Szeth Truthless all happened at drastically different times, so they don't really need to fit in to some grand plan/strategy. There's also a good chance that their actions are being directed by Cultivation via the stone shamans, who obviously wouldn't believe the Heralds' lies. So they could be following one strategy, then take a seemingly random U-turn because "the spren of the stones ordered it." That's the thing about taking orders from a god. Gods are like Aes Sedai, "they do things for their own reasons, and not always for the reasons that you think." Personally, I believe that Cultivation orchestrated the whole Szeth Truthless thing so he could play his role in the Diagram, which is essentially her master plan (see link in my signature)
  18. You're probably right, and what I actually believe is that Cultivation set all this up so Szeth could play his part in Her master plan, aka The Diagram (see link in my signature for an expansion on that). I could see it being an Unmade though, for the sole reason that the plot of Stormlight is basically just Murphy's Law
  19. I don't think this is true. I believe Jezrien said that the Heralds were leaving them to take the fight to TH. I was more thinking more along these lines. The weapons were made for a specific purpose, and that purpose is done. The Shin see the world turning these weapons on each other and decide to act 'for the greater good.'
  20. Anyone else suspect that the spren that the stone shamans are taking orders from is actually a disguised Unmade, rather than some benevolent spren of H/C? It would just fit so well with the way these books have been going. The god the heroes fight for is dead, Alethkar is fallen, the most powerful ally of the Coalition is a traitor, the Heralds are either broken or fighting for the enemy, oh and the protectors of the holy Honorblades are unknowingly working for the enemy too. Just another day on Roshar. As they say, "Another day another Desolation"
  21. This actually makes a lot of sense as well. The Hierocracy was known for editing/destroying a lot of history. I could easily see a scholar find an account that says the Shin captured thousands of shards, and that scholar thinking, "well, there are only a couple hundred in the world today so that's obviously one of the many things that were changed"
  22. The entire "good pork" chapter. All those pampered lighteyes looking at Dalinar like he's a freaking madman, and Dalinar being totally oblivious to why everyone was freaking out Edit: Even his own soldiers were completely stunned when he burst into the stormshelter looking for his knife
  23. Do we know how far their empire stretched? If they conquered the eastern world, but were stopped somewhere in Vedenar, it would go a long way towards explaining why Vedenar and Alethkar each have as many shards as the rest of the world combined. This would validate what you are saying and what is said in the text. Basically, they pushed as far as they could go, but realized they were reaching too far once they hit mountainous Vedenar. So they did overreach, as stated in the text, but instead of watching their empire crumble like most overreaching empires do, they grabbed all the shards they could and pulled out
  24. We see Rysn feed it a chip while she's waiting for the auditor. I could be wrong, but I think it ate a little down in the vault as well. Either way, Rysn is very surprised at the size difference after it eats the Voidlight. That's evidence enough that, at the very least, VLight causes much more growth than SLight. I wish I had the book in front of me to find the quote. By the way, is it possible to move this conversation to a new thread? It's an interesting conversation, but I don't want to ruin a just for fun thread with an off-topic dispute. Especially since we're not on the OB spoiler board
  25. @RShara and @The One Who Connects I'm not disagreeing with either of you, it's pretty well established that they feed on Stormlight. Aren't lanceryn supposed to be either extremely rare or thought to be extinct? This would make sense, since there hasn't been much Voidlight around since the False Desolation
