Also, if you take the word "thou" and "you" and combine and mix the letters, you can create the word "utuyhoo" which interestingly enough doesn't mean anything. Like most of these responses to the OP question.

Yea so far the only one I really like is Rlain. Really wished to see more of him in Oathbringer but I feel like book 4 should have more scenes with him since I think the book will be big on the Parshendi history.

Tranquiline Halls are Ashyn though, not Yolen.
Personal theory: Book 5 is going to end with Dalinar reforging Honor and creating a new Oathpact, with our main characters (maybe the 10 that get flashbacks, in which case Dalinar wouldn't Ascend (yet)) staying on Braize for the 15 year break. After that, the true Last Desolation comes, which is almost a battle of the Shards, and ends with the triple Shard Guidance (honor + growth + passion), held by Dalinar, Lift or Adolin.
But hey, knowing Brandon there's going to be 200 unexpected but heavily foreshadowed plot twists and in the end Azure takes up Cultivation, Rysn takes up Odium/Passion and Kelsier takes up Honor.
I have considered the 10 flashback characters (and Venli) going back to Braize for a temporary new Oathpact for the 15 year break. I think the ultimate solution is something to replace the Oathpact but the temporary Oathpacty gives humanity (and allied Listeners) time to prepare for a desolation they know is coming with technology they didn't have before. My question has always been this: Which member of the new Oathpact would break after only 15 years? Taln because he is still recovering from being tortured for 4500 years and broke recently? Ash because she is still broken too? My guess would be Venli because she would be tortured by her own kind (sort of) and viewed as a traitor which would draw more attention to her in "Damnation." Just my crockpot theory

Yes but they are still not definitive enough for a lot of people that I have talked to, so I want a definite one to end the debate for good.
@RShara wants Eshonai on screen destroyed by Nightblood so people will stop making theories lol. I agree that she is dead, gone, and will not come back.

I loved Oathbringer. That being said, it is my least favorite SA book. It has incredible parts, great parts, and a few slow parts. I love Brandon's writing and the SA is still my favorite book series ever. I agree with most of what has been said for the good and bad of the book. I think I was disappointed due to the build up I did in my mind. I frequently do this when I am excited about something being released whether it is a video game, movie, music album, or book. I build up my expectations to standards that are impossible to meet then I feel slightly disappointed. I was expecting Oathbringer to melt my brain from sheer awesomeness like the first two books but it never quite got there even as great as it was.

Except, if an unpruned Dalinar had broken, the worst that could happen is Odium gets a human champion he can bond unmade to. If Dalinar had broken in OB (after the pruning led him to become a bondsmith) Odium would have gotten a void bondsmith and an indirect Connection to the Stormfather which seems no bueno
Yea, I could see that ending poorly lol

One thing I don't really understand about what Cultivation said is the part:
Quote24 minutes ago, MonsterMetroid said:In doing this, I provide for him a weapon. Dangerous, very dangerous
It seems to me that Dalinar was more of a weapon for Odium before the pruning. The Thrill seemed to affect him more and he did some terrible things like the Rift. After the pruning, Dalinar became a better man and was able to fight the Thrill more effectively. I guess Cultivation could have meant that when his memories returned, he might break and allow Odium to take responsibility for the pain but seems like that was going to happen anyway without her intervention so I do not see the danger. Seemed like her only option. I believe before Cultivation's intervention, Dalinar would have accepted Odium's offer to remove his pain so I think she removed a potential future weapon from Odium rathan than providing one.

So I have posted on similar posts (like @MonsterMetroid post) before with a list of the scenes that made me emotional but I have left out one scene that was particularly sad to me. It is part of The Tower when Dalinar mentally says goodbye to Renarin (which thankfully wasn't his last). Gets me everytime
"And so I die, Dalinar thought, crashing into the Parshendi ranks. There he found peace. An unexpected emotion on the field of battle, but all the more welcome for that. He did, however, discover one regret: He was leaving poor Renarin as Kholin highprince, in over his head and surrounded by enemies grown fat on the flesh of his father and brother. I never did deliver that Shardplate I promised him, Dalinar thought. He will have to make his way without it. Honor of our ancestors protect you, son. Stay strong—and learn wisdom more quickly than your father did. Farewell."
Like I said, there are tons of scenes that get me and most are listed above but I hadn't seen someone mention this particular part.

That was my point about the Stormfather. He was bonded before, to a Bondsmith presumably, but he wasn't the Cognitive Shadow (or bonded to) of Tanavast/Honor at that time, just a massive spren that very likely was of Adolnasium originally. The other figures in the storm could be similarly ancient spren.
I'm going with the spren theory for now. I think they may not be "highstorm-spren" because I think that would be the Stormfather. These Stormstriders may be what the Stormfather was before Honor's Cognitive shadow bonded to him as said above but I wonder if they are spren of the destruction a highstorm brings. Highstorms are thought of in many different ways (storm water helps plants, storm winds destroy, etc) and I wonder if a certain aspect of the highstorms were given enough thought to create these Stormstrider "spren". Like if these spren are what was created from the idea that "being out in a highstorm means death." Just a random theory with no evidence

Yeah, I think it was just Szeth taking in a huge amount of stormlight. The explosion of power is something unique to Windrunners (and maybe Bondsmiths), and doesn't happen with the other Orders.

He clearly swears the Ideal at the end of the battle:
Excellent. I have never seen those WoB before. Thanks for the info.

Right. Szeth doesn't swear the Third Oath until after the big battle, so that was when he would have been able to summon a Shardblade.
So what was the explosion of light that Lift saw in the sky before Szeth descended and defeated the Thunderclast? I assumed this was Szeth swearing the Third Ideal because we saw a similar explosion of light when Kaladin said the Third Ideal. Was this just Szeth taking in a huge amount of stormlight to prepare for the fight?

Nale said that he had been watching him for some time. Probably wanted to recruit him all along but was preoccupied with the return of the Radiants as the previous posters stated.

I love the following :
"Ten spears go to battle,” he whispered, “and nine shatter. Did that war forge the one that remained? No, Amaram. All the war did was identify the spear that would not break.”
But probably my favorite is:
"I will protect those I hate. Even … even if the one I hate most … is … myself"
There are few things that I can imagine that would be harder to say. Most people deep down think they are a good person. To admit that you don't think you are a good person and that you truly hate yourself but you will fight anyway.....man. Wow Teft. Just wow.

Personally I think it was Elhokar's death that hit me the hardest. In the first two books, I viewed him as a bratty but well-meaning guy. He wanted to do good but was kinda self-absorbed. I really enjoyed seeing him progress to become a better man. The truths he spoke to Kaladin at the end of WoR and how he admitted he would mess up in Kholinar made me start to bond with him. Then he started listening to counsel and doing well planning to storm the palace, and right when I think to myself, "You know what......I like Elhokar", Moash happens. SMH

Kaladin: “What do you know?”
Wit: “Almost everything. That almost part can be a real kick in the teeth sometimes.”
Kaladin: “What do you want, then?”
Wit: “What I can’t have.” Wit turned to him, eyes solemn. “Same as everyone else, Kaladin Stormblessed.”And
(paraphrased) "Ah Brightlord *somebody*, testing the limits of human stupidity? How very empirical of you!"

Timeline: Sanderson finished Gathering Storm in 2009. He started on Way of Kings all the back to late 90s iirc. I doubt Kaladin was designed based on Rand.
.
One point I would make is that Sanderson was a big fan of the WoT before writing it obviously, so it stands to reason that it would have influenced by WoT. I have noticed a number of parallels between the WoT and SA but most of them pop up as I am reading and I think "hey, I wonder if he was inspired to do that from the WoT" but then I don't remember them later. My next reread I need to make a full list as I am reading and then post all similarities I notice.
I have read the WoT twice have no clue what the big "kind of world-shaking" information could be. I have wondered if Sanderson placed a worldhopper on RandLand or something. Just like just a small scene where someone drinks some metals hinting at Allomancy or something. Not meaning it is part of the cosmere but just kinda gentle nod to his own books. I doubt it but still....guess it is time for a reread.

I think Jasnah may be starting to change in some ways. I think back to when she was talking with Ivory and he says that Jasnah is not like most human and that she is unchanging. She contradicts him here and says that she doesn't always stay the same like he thinks. This could be a hint at a internal struggle Jasnah is dealing with and not allowing to show in her emotions. Now that being said, we do not know the struggle going on in her head as anything to do with Kaladin as there is a great deal going on in the world but I'm all for them getting together.
As for Kaladin being too immature, in my opinion few things change a man like a serious relationship. Most people grow a lot with a serious relationship and could positively change both Kaladin and Jasnah.

So what are everyone's thoughts on Taravangian? I go back and forth between liking him and not liking him. I do not like his overall plan or methods but I usually like the guy when I am reading him and Dalinar interacting or when he interacted with Jasnah and Shallan in previous books.

They are observing the Radiants. The excepts written on the back cover of each book, "these are the ones we watch..." are written from the viewpoint of the Sleepless.
I must have a different version of the books because the excerpts are not on my copies. I can't believe I've never read them until you pointed it out. Pretty obvious now. Thanks,

So did anyone else think that maybe Arclo (or other Dysian Aimian) happened to be in Kholinar when Kaladin and crew were there? I thought this when Kaladin noticed the cremling with a tan spot on its back in the winehouse with Adolin and Shallan. We know Arclo has taken an interest in the current Radiants (calling them the surgeon, the liar and the Highprince to Lift) and was obvious interested in Lift and Stump. Arclo also said he was friends with the ancient Radiants in Edgedancer. I know it may be a small detail to fixate on but I think Sanderson rarely wastes time on useless details. Do you think Arclo (or Aimians in general) may be observing the current Radiants and considering aiding them? Being practically immortal and knowing the ancient Radiants, I am sure there is tons of helpful information they could provide.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned. I searched for the information before I posted. Cheers
