  1. Short theory: Hoid is the imperial fool. It makes sense because he is not depicted much, so he is mysterious, very fitting of him, and it was confirmed that he is in that book.
  2. Some of these are just wild theories, but I think that they all make quite a bit of sense. So, I just reread Elantris for the manyith time, and came up with an idea for why AonDor is connected to the land, and why at one point (soon after Raoden realizes that the Aons are connected to the land), he's saying that there are seemingly random things there as well, like half a dozen seemingly randomly placed dots, or a few little x's. I think this is because the Dor resides in the cognitive realm (shadesmar) where it is almost exactly the same as physical realm as far as land features go (or maybe there are rifts of some sort in shadesmar that are what cause the landmarks in the physical realm, I like that idea), or there are similar things in the same places there. Then, when you draw the shapes of said rifts or landmarks, (if you are an Elantrian) then it's like the two or three round holes line up so that the round peg can fit through (using the analogy that Raoden uses). Or if you bend your bones into those shapes (If you are a Dakhor) Or if you dance like those (If you use ChayShan). WILD GUESSES: Also the Skaze could have made the rift/landform that caused the chasm that caused the Reod, because we know that they are in shadesmar, and also because it seems to me that the Skaze and the Dakhor are on one side (We know that Dilaf communes with them), and the Seons and the Elantrians are on another, and that the ChayShan users are more or less neutral. And maybe the three major religions represent the Shardic worship or use, Shu-Korath (devotion) Shu-Dereth (dominion) Shu-Keseg (both, general) Jesker (the Dor in general) and The mysteries (Probably nothing, just something Brandon might have used for Sarene to dethrone Iadon and cause confusion about the religions?) and each has it's own way of accessing the Dor. Except the Mysteries, which we still fo not know whether or not they can access the Dor. Just a side note, how does Dilaf commune with the Skaze? When he says "so the Skaze are right, the Elantrians can be killed" how did he talk to them? Also, in Elantris it talks about how the Dor seems pressurized, and that is why it actually goes through those shapes instead of satying where it is. The pressure of the Dor could be caused either by the formless energy of a shard without conscious (somewhat like the mist in Mistborn) (more likely) or possibly residual energy by way of some sort of battle between the Skaze and the Seons. It could also be a magic reserve made by one or both of the shards on Sel (Also kind of like the mists). We know that it is not concious because when Raoden is first "attacked" by the Dor, it says that it felt like it had no concious. Just the fact that such a power resides in Sel's Shadesmar would make sense about why it would be hard to get to Sel via Shadesmar, no matter what it is caused by. EDIT: Also found this quote from Brandon that talks about connection between Aons and the cognitive realm. "Afraid not. Aon Mea references the expanded region within which the "Elantris Effect" will create Elantrians. The X is fertile valley with a high density of life, a place with a lot of cognitive activity."
  3. Ordered from Amazon last night! Should get here by Monday-Wednesday next week, and when I finish it I'm giving it to Tulir to read
  4. Well I get the impression that Nightblood is more powerful, but it costs nothing to use a shardblade, whereas nightbloodsucks up breaths.
  5. Ya, I put on the quote from the ultimate list of questions on that.
  6. (You should probably read at least the first chapter of the liar of partinel before reading this post) So this is kind of an unfinished theory based on a possible typo but here goes: (btw, I don't know how to use the quote function so bear with me) In the Liar of Partinel first few chapters from awhile back seen here http://www.brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/LiarPt12.doc there is Hoid, the master jesk, and Midius, the apprentice. I was reading through for the second time when I noticed this: "Midius frowned. “The summons? No. I go for. . .other reasons.” “You will find no joy in revenge, my son,” Midius whispered." The first speaker is the apprentice, and the second speaker would appear to be the master, yet they are both referred to as Midius in this quote. Like I said, might be a typo. Also, couldn't find this but my friend Tulir told me that it was confirmed that Midius from The Liar of Partinel was called Hoid from all of the other books. This makes it seem like the master is the same person as the apprentice. It seems like Hoid somehow managed to go back in time, or make some sort of paradox in which he teaches himself. Maybe, also, Hoid manages to use his slow down/travel in time trick "Can Hoid travel in time? Status: He so far has only gone in one direction in time. He may have found a way to go through it slower than normal." (from the list of ultimate questions) and actually goes through an entire cycle of time (as in wheel of time) before he finally dies. That one is less likely but food for thought. Summary- Midius and Hoid are the same person, Hoid can travel through time. Also, as a side note, there is this quote that also seems like a typo or something that could really make me wonder about Midius- "His instincts told Midius to kill the young man. Right then. Be done with it, to earn Rens’ ire, to abandon use of their Aetherlin and let Partinel rest upon its own resources. But he did not. As he’d said, he had just enough of a conscience to be dangerous. The city would not fall while he was king. He might have taken the throne through lies, bloodshed, and treachery. But he would not fail its people. Not if there were a way to save it. Not if there were a way to wiggle out of Naysho’s ploys." Wait so is Midius Hoid and Theus? Ahhhhhhh!!! Confusion! But once again, may be typos.
  7. Is it possible that the parshendi are like the Elantrians after the reod, as in: after reod Elantrian: pre reod Elantrian:: parshendi: radiant. Maybe since Odium killed Tanavast, the "Shaod" if you will isn't completed from person to radiant.
  8. Oh sorry that's what I meant, terminology mix up. But a big one
  9. So Gavilar told Szeth to tell his brother to find the most important words a man can say. I think that said "most important words" are the orders of the knights radiant. Also, less likely sub theory, the first part of which which was told to me by Tulir, is that Gavilar was killed by the parshendi so that he could become one because he is so close to honor. Maybe since Gavilar (probably a radiant) found the most important words a man can say (the orders of the knights radiant) the parshendi figured out and killed him so he could become a parshendi. So if Dalinar figured out the same things, the same thing would happen to him. Oh and also Tulir said that Gavilar could be that parshendi shardbearer
  10. So I figured out lat night that ChayShan actually is balanced because it says that he was sweating after he was done at the fencing practice, so I think that since the Jindo do it before battle, then they draw on that energy later, or in the beginning of the dance, they use/store energy then during the battle or later in the dance they get it back.
  11. Maybe this particular Spren needs energy to continue existing, and it knows that every day at that time people come so it drains some of their energy. Also I was thinking that for some reason maybe at that time of the day the people lose energy, so maybe it is some sort of an energy drain Spren, but that wouldn't make a lot of sense. I like the idea of it warding off the high storms though.
  12. I like the idea of the shard of deception, which would make tons of sense if that was Hoid's shard because he is the liar of partenel as was said before, and also because of all of the disguises he uses, a beggar, another beggar and Wit and such.
  13. Yes exactly I'm not necessarily saying that they are all opposites, but I am saying that they are either complements or opposites.
  14. Yay! Another theory! Cusicesh the protector the giant Spren that appears at exactly 7:46. I think this is because someone observed it coming at that time "the locals could use it set their timepieces" And as said in a different area of the book it talks about how when something about a Spren is observed it stays the same. Oh and the everstorm is, somewhat obviously I think, a high storm that will last forever, possibly a desolation. Sorry "giant spree" was a typo, it was supposed to be giant Spren.
  15. Ok so I think that as every Shard has a complement, each pair of complements has a complement as well, so Shards 1 and 2 are paired, Shards 3 and 4 are paired, Shards 5 and 6 are paired, Shards 7 and 8 are paired, Shards 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and Shards 15 and 16 ar paired. Also, the pair of 1 and 2 are paired with 3 and 4, 5 and 6 with 7 and 8, 9 and 10 with 11 and 12, and 13 and 14 with 15 and 16. AND THEN... 1, 2, 3, 4 are paired with 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 10, 11, 12 are paired with 13, 14, 15, 16 and then those two sets are paired together, and eventually they either complement or negate each other, making Adonalsium, which when whole has either no power or lots of power, but I am inclined to believe that when Adonalsium is whole it has completely negated power. Kind of like how Ruin and Preservation negate each other but when the shards fit together.... None of them get any power. Also this makes sense because of the allomantic metals, each one has a pair or complement like tin and pewter, and then there are steel in bronze in that same group (I think) and then there are the basic metals, and then there are the 16 that were know at Kelsier's time. I'm not sure that the metaphor with the metals is completely accurate, but hopefully you guys understand what I am saying.
  16. I am the mighty Qazxvy, thinker of epic theories (most of which have already been thought of) and some that have not. Previously I have lurked in the shadows without an account and some of my more original theories have been posted by Tulir. Said theories include the ChayShan theory and a couple of others. But no long shall I lurk in the shadows! Mwahahahahaha!
