I believe magic is created and manipulated in the spiritual plane, its effects happen in the physical, and it's full implications can be seen in the cognitive. Imagine a table with a large tablecloth spilling over the sides touching the floor. Imagine on top of the table, a little ghost puppet, bobbing and spinning in place. Behind the table there is a man dramatically presenting the ghost with both hands. While under the table is a peddle he is pushing to make the ghost move. The "spiritual plane" is under the table, there the magic is the mechanism moving the ghost. On top of the table the ghost and the man are the "physical plane", they represent the effect the mechanism creates. The "Cognitive plane" in this case would be the... crap my scenario fell apart there. Lets say the cognitive aspect is the whole picture revealed to the audience, like if someone ripped of the tablecloth.

um are you asking us for an opinion. Cause if you are I believe that most types of magic won't work in the cognitive realm. For no other reason than the fact we have only seen soulcasting so far.

So we as of BoM we know it takes a full feruchemist to make other people feruchemist using aluminum and duralumin. With that revelation we kind of forgot about the ferrings, but even if the person is just an aluminum ferring he is still incredibly powerful. Supposedly the ferring while filling aluminum can use anyone's metalmind. With that in mind if an evil organization like the set get a aluminum ferring into their employ, they can round up some ferrings, imprison them, and force them to fill masterminds for the aluminum ferring. Not only can this ferring use all of the feruchelmy powers, he doesn't need to spend anytime filling them either.

I know this is completely unfounded, but don't you think Brandon will make most of the cosmere worlds spacefareing?

Right, so most of us know that if an allomancer flares a metal for large periods of time they can become a savant. Now when savants were first mentioned it was described as a dangerous ting, because it has drawbacks. The best/only example is Spook. While burning tin his senses were heightened to a ridiculous degree as seen in the third book. However when he stopped burning tin his senses became stunted and almost useless. With the review out of the way I was wondering...What is the drawback for steel? I just learned that Wax is a steel savant, witch makes sense it explains his steel bubble thing, but what is the downside. If he isn't burning steel the side affect is what he becomes worse at sensing and pushing on metals? For pewter the drawback is the savant becomes weaker and much more prone to exhaustion (at least that's my assumption) it is the opposite affect of when burning pewter. So what about steel, or bronze or any of the other metals really. What is stopping all the other types of mistings from savanting themselves. If there is no downside there is no reason why anyone else can get stronger. So the question is two things really: What is the drawback of being a Steel/Bronze/copper/etc, savant? + Why don't we see alot more savants running around?

I have been a long term forum lurker and an avid reader of Brandon Sanderson. I have read everything except the rest of the Alcatraz series. My favorite topic is the cosmere and the full capabilities and implications of it's magic systems. It's great to finally join and I am happy to talk to you all. I am sorry if this is half sassed but I really want to dig in on some theories so that's all for now.
