  1. Spook. The man we see at the end of BoM, the man who saved the Southern Scardians, is none other than Spook. The Lord Mistborn. We know Spook lived longer than usual (Steris mentions how Spook's rule ended after 100 years when he voluntarily stepped down). We know Spook was very interested in hemalurgy. We know Spook was a powerful Mistborn who could, with a few Feruchemical hemalurgy spikes, end up compounding atium. I respectfully submit as a theory that Spook is still alive and involved somehow.
  2. Sorry, I am new here and am a bit confused: isn't this entire section of the forum titled "Bands of Mourning Spoiler Board"? Why would someone need to redundantly need to tag their thread title as a spoiler for the very book this spoiler forum was made for?
  3. As I was catching up on this intriguing thread going against the Autonomy/Odium grain I noticed this claim about Leras "going against his Shard's intent" by stabbing Elend. I must disagree that stabbing Elend was somehow not in-line with Preservation's intent. If the goal is preservation then Vin releasing Ruin is far-and-away the literal worst outcome from Preservation's point of view. Killing a human is not even close to that so preserving the prison definitely trumps prolonging Elend's life. Note: I specifically chose the verb "prolong" because Elend will, like all humans, eventually die anyway so Leras stabbing Elend does not disrupt the natural order of things. --- On topic: I must say I find the arguments compelling for Dominion; especially with Sel finally clearing the way to easier world hopping recently (I believe there is a collection of WoB that say that Sel was initially hard to worldhop to/from but that the reason for that difficulty has recently cleared). That being said, Autonomy is, in my mind, still the top choice but I was very swayed by the arguments for Dominion. It would be just like Brandon to throw us this kind of curve ball.
  4. I have to disagree. Have you tried making a turn in a car going 10mph (16kph) compared to 100mph (160kph)? It is noticeably more difficult at a higher speed. Now imagine you are running and your legs have to bear the increased force of trying to turn in a hallway at 100mph... *legs snap like a twig and/or you just slide directly into the wall [splat!] instead of making your turn* That being said I, personally, believe that storing speed also *waves hands in a magical way* stores the needed friction to use that speed. Or something similar. Sanderson sticks to physics as much as he can but never at the expense of a good story/ability.
  5. I am going on record to purchase at least one if not many more as gifts.
  6. I am the same way; partially for the surprise and partially because I am reading so fast when a new book comes out that I am too in the zone to take time to contemplate haha.

    Hoid!

Woops, you're right. I will edit the original post. Thanks for the clarification!

    Hoid!

Hoid is a reoccurring character who shows up in every Cosmere book Sanderson writes in, generally, minor roles but who has a HUGE role in whatever background, overarching story Sanderson is setting up. I think I remember in an earlier thread you mentioned that you have read Alloy of Law. Basically, he is a behind the scenes character running around the Cosmere doing who knows what to try and stop a powerful shardholder from destroying the universe. Cool stuff eh?

    Hoid!

I do not know the answer to that but I can speculate that IF Hoid wanted to remain as inconspicuous as he has up to this point then he definitely has to have a way to avoid God-like shardholders. I imagine it is through the use of one of the magic systems (storing identity, or some form of a copper cloud, even spiking himself [temporarily?] with an unknown [to Harmony/Trell] metal).
  10. Hello everyone, just dropping by to make a quick first post. If you google for "fastest revolver shots" or something along those lines you can find plenty of videos of people using single, and double, action revolvers to fire 6 - 8 shots in under a second. Furthermore, you can also see videos of people using speed loaders to reload a revolver and fire ANOTHER 6/8 rounds all within 2-3 seconds. [That is not a typo or hyperbole btw] I do not think using Feruchemical steel (or compounding it) does anything to speed up a gun and, as the videos you can search for show, it is entirely possible to use a revolver to fire rapidly without any enhancement to the gun or the individual. I hope this dispells some of the confusion surrounding the opening scene of SoS.
