  1. OK, then I accept. I like cookies
  2. I didn't plan to write so much text, I just couldn't stop. My comment on Elatris sounded a bit harsh, I enjoyed it, just not as much as other books (Espedially after reading great Mistborn books and other great books (I can't recall which). I decided on reading both SA and 17th shard simultaneously, SA at home and the forums on my phone on the train. Why doesn't this sound good? I have a bad feeling about this...
  3. After quite a bit of time just reading the 17th shard I finally decided to join. So here I am: Hello to all of you! As I'm from Germany and didn't have to use English for a while now I might have not the best expression or use mix some strange German grammar constructions (we like to do that) or Spanish words (I'm currently taking a Spanish course) in. However, with respect to my master thesis I'm going to write in English next year I can use the practice. Until now I've read Brandon's books only in German, which, sonetimes, is strange as most names are translated and now I have to get used to the English versions. Some changes are only small to make the name "more German" e.g. Schallan instead of Shallan, whereas others are completely different, e.g. Elant Wager for Elend Venture (fun fact: "Elend" is German for misery and "straff" means firm or tight, which is both quite fitting). However, I don't reject name translations in books. I my opion nothing is worse than a good book (translation) ruined by obviously (for a lack of will) untranslated names, though there are of course exceptions. My first Brandon book was Hero of Ages (yes, the 3rd!). I got it for christmas some years ago by a person not knowing it belong to a trilogy. Before I already had seen Mistborn and Elantris in the local bookshop but they didn't sound very interesting to me so I had never bought them. After christmas, after reading the first chapters of HoA I at once bought Final Empire and Well of Ascension. The three soon belonged to my favourite books. I was curious about other books by that author I've never heard of before and got Elantris (the only other German Brandon book I could find at that time), which is remarkable as I normally buy books because they sound interesting and not because they are by a special author. So I got Elantris and ... I have to admit, I disliked it. Normally after I finish a book I do an instant reread to see if with knowledge of the end things get clearer/sound different (e.g. Should it have been obvious character A betrays the hero and things like that). I didn't do a reread of Elantris. I put it on my book shelf and only touched it when rearranging and reordering the shelf. That was several years ago now. In those years I did innumerable rereads of Mistborn and found the annotations on Brandon's site and read them in one part without reading the books at the same time. I also noticed a beggar named Hoid in both FE and HoA but "why shouln't that be a common name in the final empire, there are two persons with the same name, why not?". Once Alloy of Law came out I directly bought it and liked it también (see, told you about the Spanish words slipping in). Of course, by that time I had completely forgotton the "two Hoids" (both less than minor characters and one doesn't even talk) and didn't notice him in AoL. Only during a recent (about 6 months ago) reread of all four mistborn books and the annotations chapter by chapter I remembered the now three Hoids and I was curious: Could it possibly, despite of 300 years, be the same person? I did a google search of Hoid, just out of fun, not expecting any useful results ... First result: the Coppermind. That night I spent several hours reading about Hoid, the cosmere. Adonalsium, ... My next thought: I have to get the other books and finally do an Elantris reread. Luckily I got a cold a few weaks later and had to stay in bed for three days - enough time to devour both WoK and WoR ... And now, here I am and have a problem: I haven't found the time for a WoK and WoR reread as I spent too much time reading theories here. It's a total dilemma. What shall I do? Read the books or read about the books?
