Honestly, many of those degrees are mostly in USA. In most of Europe murder is murder, and even if it is in self defense it never goes fully unpunished, with the possible punishment been from a fine to 10 years in jail. Yes, the conditions and circumstances can alter the punishment, but it is rarely given a pass even with the best reasoning in the world.
No not a pass. The action was done. No changing it. And as I was typing, I was thinking " Ya know, it might be different in other countries" lol, so fair point.

If he personally gets dozens killed for his ego, its on him, regardless of circumstances and conditions.
But we do take those things into consideration. Circumstances, conditions, and the feelings of the perpetrator. In a court of law especially. Crimes of passion, first degree murder, second degree murder, manslaughter. Premeditated, aggravated, temporary insanity. We do it all the time. Doesn't push the crime to the side, but it does alter the punishment and sentence served.
My emotions for Elhokar change drastically over WoR. Had a love hate relationship with his screw ups lol. But by the end, where he gets all emotional with Kaladin when he's drunk, shifted me more towards feeling sorry for him. Dude just wants to be like his dad, basically. He just doesn't get that great people never think about being great, or being seen as great. They have great goals, and accomplish them.
As for him seeing Kal surgebind in the arena; He's already thinking he's crazy because he's (possibly) seeing Lie spren, so he may have just attributed it to that at the time.
Im sure he will form a relationship with Kaladin now. I would like to see him trained by Kal or one of the Bridge 4 crew. Would help him a lot.

Ok, anybody who said they figured it out without this site or WoB, you need to open a PI firm right this second lol.

Maybe this has been ruled out before but I figured the Dawnshards were probably the Honorblades. The Shards that were at the dawn of 'modern' (post-Adonalsium) Roshar. They were 'lost' long before Honor's death. Or is that too simple?
I would like your idea to be right though. It has a certain elegance.
Could be the case, but I definitely think it's too simple. Would be a real let down if the Dawnshards were just the Honorblades.

I really like this idea. I guess the Listeners could be the Dawnsingers, but I would much rather it be the way you suggest. I also like the idea that the Dawnshards are giant/super-spren, and were corrupted and turned into the Unmade. I wonder if more giant/super-spren can be/have been formed again, and can become or already are new Dawnshards, allowing new Dawnsingers? Would make for a really cool arc I think.

I think it has to do with the fact that we saw both of the characters' bodies, dead. Jasnah left a "corpse" for Shallan to find, and we saw Szeths' eyes burn (well, those of us who read the original version did; but the alternative is nearly as final). Now I'm in your boat; I didn't actually believe that Jasnah was dead, either. She was too major a character, with too much potential, to die in a pointless skirmish. So I wasn't much surprised when she came back at the end, either.
I think they both count as "resurrections", though. In Jasnah's case, we saw her body (presumably Soulcast, I guess, though I still don't know why she'd bother. There's no real point in letting her enemies think they killed her if they can't follow her through Shadesmar), and there was a reasonably long wait before the reveal that she was alive after all. If we hadn't seen her body, sure, it wouldn't have counted as a resurrection. If the reveal that she'd survived had come sooner -- maybe in the next set of interludes, or at most the set afterward, where IMHO it should have been -- then it wouldn't have counted either. But there was a very intentional play here to make the readers think she was dead.
Same thing with Szeth. Everything we've seen so far, everything we've seen hinted at so far, suggests that when your eyes burn, you're dead. We saw him die, in the climax of a final battle, and the readers have no reason at all to suppose that he survived somehow. So he counts as a resurrection as well.
The problem, then, is that Brandon has sort of established with these precedents that death doesn't really mean much in the Stormlight Archives. You can't believe a character's dead if you see their body (see Jasnah), and you can believe they're dead if you see them killed (see Szeth). So we get speculation like this about Sadeas because, technically, with enough hoop-jumping like with Jasnah and Szeth, he could be alive. The main problem comes if/when Brandon tries to do a climactic character death, some kind of noble last stand/self-sacrifice (my money's on Dalinar for the first one, and I expect at least two). There will be less gravitas, less emotional impact, than there would be otherwise because, hey, in the Stormlight Archives, death isn't permanent. Just look at Jasnah and Szeth.
(Besides, we all know Dalinar can't really be dead. He's coming back next book, right? Right?)
I get what you're saying. And I see how it could have less of an impact when there is tht last stand fight and they die, bit Ive just never felt that way about it. Like when I found out a certain character was still running around in the Cognitive Realm, I wasnt let down(granted, it did come after the stormlight books, so it could seem like the 3rd rez I think for the Cosmere). It didnt lessen his AWESOME last stand scene for me . Just like I wasnt let down by Jasnah being alive, and popping out of thin air. I mean we've already seen that death really isnt the end in the cosmere.
Idk, maybe Im just weird, but resurrections never really bothered me as long as it fits within the story.

I'll be honest, I don't consider what happened to Szeth to be a revival. Jasnah, yeah, but she isn't major; she's tertiary.
See, I saw it as the reverse. Szeth was the true rez. I didnt believe Jasnah was dead for a second. The second her body disappeared, and her "murderers" were surprised to see it gone, I knew she was in Shadesmar. For that reason I never actually connected her return from Shadesmar as a resurrection.

Another possibility I've seen is that in his haste he left his side knife behind.
Didn't he use it to scratch off the markings he made on the wall? Fairl certain it said tht somewhere. But the cuffs missing are definitely noticeable. Cant really blame it on the fighting, considering by the time we get Adolins POV, he says that something like a week has gone by, IIRC.

I also don't think he was a Ghostblood and while yes, Mraise only says "your brother sought out the Skybreakers" I think his actions combined with that imply he was a Skybreaker (in the organization, not a surgebinder Skybreaker) I also think Shallan's mother and her "friend" were Skybreakers based on their actions. I think Helaran was introduced to the Skybreakers through his mother.
Ok yeah, so we're on the same page then. Thats exactly what I think happened.

That's a lot of extra work for something a regular old blade can do rather quickly after lashing someone to the ground.

Mraise himself tells Shallan that her brother was a Skybreaker
Does he? I thought he only went as far as saying Heleran was searching out the Skybreakers, not that he had become one of them. I personally dont believe he was a Ghostblood. At least not on the evidence provided. Its all based on the assumption that Amaram found a tattoo that there was absolutely no mention of him finding. And if he had found it, why not mention. Something as simple as "The man was a Ghostblood. Made obvious by the tattoo hidden on the inside of his lower lip..." or something like that.

About to start my re-re-reread, and I honestly cant wait to see Vasher do his thing again. And I agree wholeheartedly with Lightsong being a great witty toon to read. While I dont,t agree with you on Hoid, seeing as how he is my fav toon in the whole series, I do agree Shallans wit and biting humor seems a bit forced. But maybe thats the point. She has to force it all just so she can appear normal. .

The spike's metal is from a Shard we know. We had not seen Autonomy, but we did know of her, so Bavadin is not ruled out as a candidate.
Ohhhhhhhh ok I see. From a shard we know, not a shard we've seen. Yeah that would include Autonomy I suppose.

Brandon did a reading from book 3 that, without giving any spoilers, you might find interesting.
Uhm... Could you possibly link that? I thought Ive seen them all, but apparently not lol. If you cant, no biggie.
Edit: Oh wait, do you mean (book 3 spoiler)
when Dalinar opens the door to the highstorm and sees the thing out in the storm? Im pretty sure thats what you meant lol

I feel like the spike Paalm, AKA Bleeder, in Shadows of Self was using is from Sel. What if a sample of Soulstone was formed into a spike? The similarities in their descriptions are quite marked with soulstone being white with red patches throughout, and the spike being silvery with a red cast, and what looks to be "rust" spots. The other aspect that makes it seem unlikely to me that Odium is Trell is the proximity of the Ire...although we do not know how close they are during this particular era, they were at one point very close. My particular theory is that the "faceless immortal" at the end of BoM is actually a Skaze as seen on Scadrial
See I can actually go along with that theory. I still think Brandon dropping Bavadins name so soon after SoS, and bleeders weird god metal spike together is a red herring. Plus, he said the spike was from a shard we've seen before(I think, correct me if Im wrong), and we've never seen Bav.

IIRC This is possibly backed up by Dalinar's Purelake vision, in which they are hunting a spren that has been "corrupted by Sja-anat", which is an Unmade, and therefore a large splinter of Odium. I can definitely support "voidspren" being native spren thus corrupted, for now.
However, there is Voidbinding to consider. According to a WoB that I cant find right now (on my phone), we haven't seen voidinding as of the end of WoR, so that isn't what the Listeners do to achieve, or once in, Stormform. As such, Voidinding is likely a counterpart to Surgebinding that results from humans bonding a different kind of Spren that also embodies a more abstract concept than the native spren (like honor, but derived from Odium, e.g. Vengencespren). In which case, these Spren would be Voidspren, and Stormspren would not be voidspren at all but corrupted windspren.
This ties into my final point, and one that you pointed out yourself: Wind and Honour (or Protection, as I believe Syl more accurately represents, though she could also be Dutyspren?) aren't related notionally. However, [whatever Syl is] are functionally/metaphorically related to Windspren, as they grant the ability to essentially fly, and encourage their Bondmates to fight, and metaphors for skilled fighters are often wind-related, e.g. "he was a whirlwind of steel", or the numerous examples describing Kaladin.
Whilst this is a fairly fluffy definition, the upshot is that people who attract [whatever Syl is] are also very likely to attract windspren, and this is what seems to be the understanding of "cousin spren" in the 17th Shard. In a similar way, Cryptics aren't conceptually similar to creationspren, but there has been some concensus here that they are cousin spren because people bonded to the former (Lightweavers) are prone to attract the latter (through their art).
All that is just the prevailing theory, however. I don't believe anything out there contradicts your theory. I would be interested in knowing what you think would be cousin spren to Cryptics, according to your theory: I personally can't see any similarities between them and Creationspren, not like between [whatever Syl is] and Windspren...
I thought
it was confirmed that the Stormform Parshendi were voidbringers? Which I extrapolated to mean they did use voidspren, and were voidbinding. Hmmm. Guess not.

We have a WoB explaining how certain Shardblades have become so famous, their names get carried on from one bearer to the other. The implications are Oathbringer is such a Blade as Sadeas didn't rename it and always referred to it as "Oathbrigner" and not as "Dalinar's Shardblade".
The most likely possibility merely is there is an in-word book named Oathbringer which tell the tales of a famous sword, perhaps how its name become famous, how the Blade earned it.
It is probably relevant to the flashback where Dalinar wins it and nothing else. It certainly isn't relevant to any other character.
For arguments sake, I wanna say Dalinar might have named it during Gavilars conquest of Alethkar. Like after having the book read to him, he decided to name it Oathbringer. But that doesnt seem like anywhere near enough time for a blade to gain such notoriety. So you're probably right, in that its been named Oathbringer for a long time now.

That's not true. Friction, or lack thereof, would have nothing to do with limiting the fall damage she takes. If she lands on the angled surface, she would still take damage as a result of the vector of movement parallel to the surface's normal. Friction would just stop her from sliding forward and losing the vector of motion perpendicular to the fall damage one. Stormlight augmentation is what would save her in this case.
Oh I wasnt saying she wouldnt take damage from the impact, just that the forward momentum combined with her frictionless abilities would mitigate it. If only a bit. She would still need to heal, just not as much. And she wouldnt have to heal to be able to escape, shed just use that forward momentum to slide away as she heals.

Even if it was a perfectly vertical drop, stormligh would allow her to survive the fall.
But that's fully intentional. She's a kid, and she's kindhearted, I would not want to kill her. Just knock some sense in her head

Lol yeah, she would heal. Still dont think it'd knock sense into that kids head. I mean Ive fallen from some pretty good heights, and it never stopped me from climbing higher, even without her awesomeness lol.
Really, I think I like lift because Wyndell is so mysterious to me right now, and we need Lifts story to crack that mystery open.
0 -
@kingofnowhere Well,if you're gonna drop Lift out a window, you'd better make sure its straight down, because any angle on that fall and she will just use her awesomeness to remove her friction when she hits the ground and slip and slide her way into stardom! Lol
But seriously, Im kinda inbetween you and Maxal on this point. Hoid is what drew me into the Cosmere in the first place, but Im not miffed that he barely has had any role whatsoever in almost every story so far. If a character I like starts getting pushed to the back burner, I will feel perturbed for a minute, but then I start wondering what character will be getting more page time, or if it will be someone all new getting introduced, like Lift.
And speaking of Lift, I absolutely love her attitude towards everything. I mean yea shes a child, so taking others safety into consideration probably isnt topping her list of worries. But she obviously knows Wyndell isnt a voidbringer. She just likes screwing with him, because she gets enjoyment out of vexing him. Her logic cracks me up. But in the end, she shows she does care about people, or else she would have just left Gawx behind to die and kept running from Nale. She would never have risked her life to save him if she didnt care. Yes it was after the fact that it hit her that Gawx wouldnt have been in this situation if it wasnt for her, but she does realize it in the end.
Really, I just want to see her grow and become a bada## Edgedancer. She has wit, she has brains, and she uses her caloric intake to fuel her powers. Wait until she realizes that she can draw in stormlight instead of just "burning" her fat stores for it.
In conclusion, I guess what Im saying is that I love every toon in the Cosmere. Even Sadeas, although I wanted his demise to come so badly I could taste copper on my tongue lol. Really, if the story starts to lag, then I focus on the characters. If the characters get a bit boring, I focus on the overall story. If they both start to slip, well then thats when I stop caring and just out the book down.
