  1. In WoR, with training with shardblades,  the ardent had some special blade blocks that stopped the blade from hurting..

    Quote

“One Blade was long and thin, with a large crossguard, while the other was wide and enormous, with wicked spikes—slightly flamelike—jutting out of both sides along the lower third. Both weapons had protective strips on the edges, like a partial sheath.”

  2. Look, my memory isn’t great. I just found Era 2 so forgettable that I bought SoS twice by accident.  Took me like quarter a book to realise that I have read it already.

I always thought that AoL was an experimental book by BS that came off in sales and so we have the fourth book to look forward to now. B)

I think the missing girls story was an allegory to something. Either for urban legends or for things that people put off or procrastinate about.  Either way, I felt there was a lot of breaking the 3rd dimension (acts of God to save the hero) with AoL and I really have forgotten the rest until the final fights in bands of mourning. Same issue with marriage thing.  The BoM start was super confusing again with SoS being so forgettable.

Reading Elantris?  That one is ok, and I am assuming Warbreaker is next.  Lightsong doing his Leaving Las Vegas routine....

Seriously, that's delayed gratification (no pun intended) if one is to get to Way of Kings ending!  And WoK is pretty draggy in the middle, with Kaladin being Mr Cliche and Taravangian/Szeth being utterly bleak.

If the Overlady reads this (or anyone else) - they should try "Shards of Honor" by Lois Mcmaster Bujold (part of the Vorkosigan saga).  Brandon is great, and I read all his stuff, but I sort of put Elantris//Warbreaker at a lower rung compared to SA.

  3. I don’t know whether to jump with joy or cry....

Oathbringer was a beast of an audiobook. At 55 hours and 5 minutes, I barely got any sleep over 3 nights as I tried to finish it (got both the kindle and audiobook versions).

RoW is LONGER! :o  My sleep cycle is going to be sooooo disrupted! I was hoping it would be more like 400k, so the 50k shave would help some. Not anymore.... on the plus side it’s going to be longer ...:P

I've long been expecting a 2021 release, and while he keeps insisting 2020 there's less and less time for him to convince me that's true. XD I expect he'll finish in early 2020 and release in early 2021.

    IKR!?

While my preference is for Wandersail, you are right probably in saying the Rock novella.

Wandersail might be heading towards Aimia, and I don’t think BS is ready to give up on the goodies at this juncture of the SA arc.

He’s said on Writing Excuses that he tries to write at least 2000 words a day, so I’d assume he’s able to hit that January target.

Assuming he takes the weekends off, that still works out to 20 working days / month ie 40,000 words per month assuming he doesn’t work on anything else or travel, etc.

On a 400,000 words target, it will take him 10 months, which makes it challenging to hit the 1 Jan target as he started in April.

Off to go tell my uninformed father he can get me a hardback copy of Rhythm of War for Christmas.

(I'll buy the Kindle edition as soon as it comes out, obviously)

I’d be more happy to be wrong on this one, but Brandon’s previously mentioned that he writes about 30k words a month.

At that speed, it’s mathematically impossible to meet the 1 Jan deadline.

Here’s to hoping that Brandon can turbo charge with vol. 4.  But, I am thinking late September 2021 release at this rate.
