Ah, thanks for the heads up.
When you say DRM locked do you mean locked to the iPad platform or locked to the user (in that I would need to enter a password to put it on a new device like how songs used to be)? Because if it's the latter I still may use iBooks over the B&N Nook Store.

Sinspire has since made a larger character sheet of all the main Way of Kings characters (Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Adolin, Jasnah, Navani, Szeth) which I will not post for her but can be found at her art tumblr.
click the text "view the fullsize" in the first sentence of her description to accomplish that goal.

Currently, I'm reading Infinity Blade: Awakening and The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.
Both short.
This is good because The Cold Commands by Richard K Morgan just came out. Can't wait to get started on that. I liked The Steel Remains so much I almost read it all in one sitting.

I'm sure nothing is canon unless it's published.
Aside from meta-speculation, I suppose.

I just want to point out that I had no idea that iBooks was DRM Free and it is one of the most refreshing things. I think I have found my default ebook outlet.
Unless they have terrible, terrible practices that I don't know about. Like not paying authors or dumping poison in lakes. Something along those lines.

That is all quite valid. This is my first draft and it suffers from, among other things, being for a creative writing workshop with strict, strict page limits. Which, thankfully, don't apply to revisions, so I can do whatever I want with it from here on out.
The limit meant a lot of the downtime between Barryl and Aerill, which better established what exactly they were doing, had to go. As well as their relationship and how it thematically tied in to the first two segments.
What also had to go was an extended fight scene (well, all the fights really) that got replaced hastily with "archers archers everywhere" as well as the "bows are guns" stuff. Also the sequences would have introduced another magic system all together. Though, in retrospect, that was a good call as there is a lot going on here for 20 pages.
Right now, as of that critique, my list of things to do with the story are as follows:
1) Add in character stuff between Barryl and Aerill.
2) Add in action scenes. On the wall as well as in the dungeon. Greater sense of danger. Especially in regards to Barryl because the arrows going through him was a complete afterthought and a bad one at that.
3) Expand/Better Describe the ascension in the dungeon.
4) Just tie in the second half in better with the first half.
5) More visual descriptions.
6) Try to make the chronology more accessible.
7) Expand the University scene to include a least a little student life.
Is there anything specific you can think of that might help make the learning curve less steep?
Right now I'm kind of toying with the idea of expanding it into a 100-120 page novella for NaNoWriMo instead of plunging into the Reaper as I kind of have a better outline for this at the moment. Especially since I've had it commented to me that this reads like a few scenes from a much larger story that the reader doesn't get to read. Maybe I should just write that story.

Currently, I'm messing around with a larger project (tentatively) named The Reaper. However, I don't quite have enough time/prewriting to write a full novel at the moment. I'm thinking about jumping in full force and at least have stuff to edit later w/ NaNoWriMo, but for the next month I have too much school/work on my plate. At least that's how it seems. I may start early regardless.
So I'm doing short stories set in the world of The Reaper with little to no relationship with the main plot. Which is nice because I get to play around with other countries, cultures, and magic systems which were in my notes but didn't directly factor into the big arc.
Blood and Tallow ties a bit more to the main plot than I expected it to at the end, but I think it still stands alone. At least I hope.
Happy readings!

Personally, I vastly prefer the British covers for Mistborn and I think the same about this one for Elantris.
That's not saying much as I don't care much for the original Elantris cover. And by Mistborn covers, I mean the mass market paperback editions, not the American hardback ones, which are actually quite nice.
However, Way of King's American cover is much, much better than its British counterpart. Like, part of my excitement for new Stormlight Archive books comes from anticipating the covers that will arrive alongside them.
I hope we see a Warbreaker edition in this style.

So I'm about to start participating in this group, but as you're already on chapter six, maybe you could email me all the chapters thusfar so I won't be lost/lacking context when reading chapter 7 on?
My email is [email protected]

The Wedding of River Song just blew my mind. I'm sitting here geekin' out about it. It makes me want to watch the whole of Dr. Who again from the beginning.
Yeah, for some reason Moffat goes full-on Indiana Jones with his finales and they really work for me. This last half of the season was quite strong. Even Night Terrors was passable.
I'm very interested in what the future holds. I would love to see the show focus on the Doctor and River with Amy and Rory only showing up occasionally.
I'd also love to see more Canton or *gasp* a new companion. This is longest the show has ever gone with a consistent companion/Doctor.

I do this too! I've been working on character and plot development lately so I review a couple of the podcasts every day as I start to work and it helps immensely.
I'm in a Creative Writing class right now and when we are workshopping pieces sometimes I just want to beg people to go listen to Writing Excuses so I can stop repeating everything the same advice over and over and over...
I know!
I feel like a huge stick in the mud sometimes, but people need to keep a narrative voice consistent. Also tense!

Mine is: http://thecatastrophists.tumblr.com/
Fairly well-updated.
This isn't much Sanderson/Book culture on Tumblr though so it's mainly DC Comics, Adventure Time, Doctor Who, Parks and Rec, and Community atm.

Some books don't really need to be hardback. Way of Kings is not one of those books. It's epic and collectible and benefits from the extra inner-cover art and larger illustration size.
I assume it won't be THAT much more off Amazon as they discount HCs but not Mass Market Paperbacks.

I'm probably the only person in the world who was attracted to WoT by the cover design. For some reason, I picked up the first book, looked at Lan's helmet, and thought it was a Fantasy book with Eastern influences.
... it wasn't.
But the research I did trying to find out if it was convinced me to give the books a shot. That was two years ago and now I am up to date and awaiting aMoL. And so is my gf, who I had to force the books upon, but who is now more into them than even I.

Yeah, I've been amazed at how much I've learned from Writing Excuses. It's my ritual to listen to a couple before I sit down to write/worldbuild. It repeats itself sometimes and other times it isn't exactly related to my stages of writing, but listening to people talk about writing never fails to get me in the mood to write.
Also, stuff about world building, pacing, characters, and magic are all relevent to my work and almost never touched upon in my current Fiction Workshop (full of serious writers).

Wonderful. You have my email.

I'm not going to the Con, but I do live in NYC. If anyone wants to do a meetup/hangout that weekend, I'd be interested. I never get to hang out with people interested in writing Genre.

Hey there Yados
great to have you here. Dr Who? *high five*
Oh yeah, total Whovian. No more till August next year? Feels Bad.

Hey there, and welcome! I'm in about the same stage of writing as you are. For now, at least; my creative writing class is forcing me to submit for publication as part of my grade. Talk about scary!
I never joined Adonalsium, but I'm glad to see some former members finding their way over here and sticking with the fan community. I hope you like it here!
Oh, and have a welcome cookie!
Oh good, a cookie for me!
Yeah, I like my creative writing class, but we only write two stories per semester... which I have far exceeded one month in. It does help to look at what classmates are writing and writing critiques.
I'm trying to get a backlog of work together before I start submitting in earnest. But I do have one submission I'm waiting to hear back from at Brain Harvest. It was only 750 words (their max) and written especially for the publication. *crosses fingers*
I liked Adonalsium. It was a quiet little board... Which is likely why it no longer exists. Oh well.
Anyhow, I sort of disappeared after my intro, but now that things have quieted down at uni/work I should be able to post more.

I'd like to sign up/be involved/read the rules, etc.

Hi, my name is Clayton, though I usually post on fantasy communities as Yados.
I've been reading Mister Sanderson's for about two years I think. I read Mistborn completely by accident and never looked back.
I read a lot of Fantasy, though I've been going through a lull as of late. I'm thinking of picking up the Runelords books or finishing J.V. Jones' Sword of Shadows. I'm killing time sort of while I wait on getting back to my girlfriend's house where I left the second collection of Long Price Quartet books. If you have any suggestions, I'd be open to them.
I'm a History Major (Law and Society Minor) at NYU, graduating this semester. I'm toying around with writing fantasy right now, but it's in pretty rough stages of development at the moment.
I write some Doctor Who and DCU fanfics under the name cjp315 at that fanfiction.net, though I'm putting that on hold for now while I try to short out my original stuff.
I've tried to introduce my friends to Stormlight Archive with great success.
I suppose that's all the things about me. Wow. Sad.
TV-wise I like Doctor Who, Parks and Rec, Community, Bored to Death, and Game of Thrones.
I read a lot of comics, mainly DC and Indie stuff these days.
I used to post on Adonalsium back when that still existed. I suppose that's of note? I had the same username if anyone remembers me.
Yeah.
Okay.
Introduction ended. Nice to meet everyone.

Question about unreleased works

Maybe the big shakeup that caused the magic to go wonk is directly related to all the high-level cosmere stuff?
