I just finished Calamity two days ago. I had this exact same question at the end of the book. I read the thread but not sure i feel satisfied with anyone's theories. I thought i remember reading, in either Steelheart or Firefight, that newly created epics were extremely rare. I think most became epics once Calamity appeared and i thought i remember it was like 5 a year or something like that. So if they are rare it would seem odd that all of a sudden Mizzy becomes an epic unless it is tied to something, which i guess could be what some suggest in relation to Calamity. But i didn't recall seeing anything that Calamity did that would trigger this in her. Hopefully someone can shed more light on this..

Isn't there something about shardplate adjusting to the size of the wearer? I thought there was something about it changing size to fit the wearer. Like of you are smaller it tightens up to fit you so it is not loose and if you are big it expands to encompass you. That shows some variability in it i think, just not to the extend of Syl changing to be a weapon, and i think she even changed into a shield at one point during the fight with Szeth (but i may not be remembering that correctly).

Thanks for posting about the deleted scene. It was fun to read. Argent and Pathfinder seem to have the chronology of events sorted out pretty well. Thanks.

Thanks I appreciate the feedback. I will take a look at all of those. Thanks.

Hi Everyone, A lot of people mention there are Words of Brandon on various topics that we discuss relating to the Stormlight Archive. I was wondering, is there a place that has a compilation of all the WOB? I don't know where to individually hunt down all the different WOB and wanted to know if someone on the forums or elsewhere have compiled them all into one location so i could read through all of them. Anything anyone can share would be most appreciated.

Radiant's Color of Eyes,Shardplate and Blade
gbazz4 replied to StormWrath's topic in Stormlight Archive
Is it only when they ingest stormlight? If they are holding stormlight that they ingested and then use it wouldn't that also make their eyes change color. I believe we have seen scenes where Jasnah soulcasts, which means she must have ingested stormlight 9She was using the soulcaster to cover for teh fact that she was a surgebinder). Unfortunately i don't recall any of those scenes mentioning her eyes. She soulcasts the caved in wall in WOK to save Taravangian's grandaughter. She also kills the guys in the alley in WOK. Then at the end of WOR she transports back out into Roshar from Shadesmar. Presumably she would have had to have ingested stormlight and used it to do those feats so when she did them her eyes should have changed. Unfortunately, i don't recall any of those parts noting her eyes to help us figure out this whole darkeye/lighteye thing if their eyes change color as radiants.- 54 replies

Radiant's Color of Eyes,Shardplate and Blade
gbazz4 replied to StormWrath's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there could be something to the subconsciously hiding the color change and that seems like a rational explanation for why she would wants to do it (if indeed the eye color change was what set her mom against her). Isn't there something to do with how the KR self identifies? I think i remember Kaladin can't get the tattoos to hold over his sash scar because he can't view himself without it and yet because of the stormlight arguably the scar should have healed too. I thought it was all subconscious for why that happens. I could see Shallan not wanting her eyes to change color, and 1) because she doesn't self identify that way and 2) because she is a lightweaver, she therefore doesn't have her eyes change (or at least an illusion is hiding that change to others). Just my thoughts, i might be remembering in correctly as it has been a while since i have looked at the books.- 54 replies

First off i find it fascinating that we can all look at the same information and come to such completely different conclusions. My take on Slytherin is based on the traits of Slytherin from the books themselves. Those are the values spelled out by JK Rowling herself via the sorting hat. So i think it is fair to say that they will use whatever means to achieve their ends, they are cunning and ambitious, and they place value on pure-blood wizards. That is negative but i think it is clear it is meant to be negative. Ambition in and of itself does not necessitate placement in Slytherin, but a culmination of all the values of the house. For instance, Hermione is ambitious, she wants to be the smartest person in the class and get the best grades. But that didn't result in a Slytherin placement (nor Ravenclaw seeing as how they are known for their wit). She was muggle-born and i don't think would use any means to achieve her ends. I agree there are similarities between Harry and Kaladin. Just because Kaladin wants to be the best spearman i don't think is ambition but more like pride in your skills. Wanting to lead his people i think is more like he thinks he is the only one that can do it right and so needs to lead. I don't think it means he is ambitious and would need to go into Slytherin. Harry wanted to be the best Quidditch player he could be and win the Quidditch cup. He wanted his house to win the House Cup (for that matter all Gryffindors wanted to win both cups and be the best house). That doesn't mean he was the right fit for Slytherin. The hat was torn on where Harry should go. He saw traits of both Slytherin and Gryffindor. Ultimately Harry hated the idea of Slytherin so the sorting hat said well then Gryffindor. And it was the perfect spot for Harry. Only a true Gryffindor could have pulled the sword of Godric Gryffindor out of the sorting hat in the Chamber of Secrets. When it comes to choosing i think the hat only would let you choose if you had qualities of two houses that worked. Otherwise i think it would just put you in the house you belonged in. Harry also has that tendency to not want to let others go into danger, much like Kaladin. They are very similar and i think that shows more of a lean towards Gryffindor. I think there are far more examples of Kaladin fitting Gryffindor and Hufflepuff than can be used to show he is a better fit for Slytherin. I think there are quite a few examples of him not being right for Slytherin. The pure-blood vs muggle-born and lighteyes vs darkeyes i think fits. Many Pure-bloods want to rule the wizarding world and restrict teaching wizardry to only other pure-bloods. I think that falls well in line with Ligheyes being in charge in Alethkar and believing they should rule. In Slytherin house you wouldn't be a muggle-born prejudiced against pure-bloods. It just wouldn't fit, if you were prejudiced against pure-bloods you would likely be in a house with more muggle-borns. So i think Kaladin thinking darkeyes is similar to being prejudiced against pure-blood wizards. That prejudice i don't think would work for Slytherin. I suggested Hufflepuff (as a second option) because i believe Kaladin is extremely loyal. He goes into the army because he is loyal to Tien and wants to protect him. I think at the end of WOR when he leaves to go to Hearthstone it is because he is loyal to his family and wants to make sure they are ok. I think he is loyal and dedicated to his men and will do everything he can to protect them. I am not sure what you mean by "he betrayed his word to Dalinar to absolve a petty need for revenge." Are you referring to when he calls out Amaram after he helps Adolin in the duel? It has been a while since I read WOR (currently early on in a reread) but i don't recall Kaladin saying i won't step in and challenge Amaram if i help out (mainly because he wasn't part of the plan and Adolin thought he would be facing 2 shardbearers). So if that is the place you meant i don't see how he betrayed his word to Dalinar. He and Renarin were the only ones to go help Adolin so i think that shows he is loyal to his word to protect Dalinar's sons. It was more of being stupid versus betraying any word to Dalinar. If there is another scene that you were referring to please let me know because i can't recall one where i thought he was betraying a word to Dalinar. I think Sly would call him on something like that. Also he ultimately faces down Moash and protects Elhokar and shows he is loyal and dedicated to his ideals. I think that shows Hufflepuff fairly well. But he shows bravery, daring and nerve throughout both WOK and WOR (risking himself to save men in battle, taking the front place in the bridge on runs, dressing up in parshendi bones to draw fire away from the bridgemen, charging off to save Dalinar from Eshonai, fighting Szeth when he attacks Dalinar both times, etc.). That to me shows Gryffindor clearly, which is why i think that is the best fit.

I have to completely disagree with Kaladin as Slytherin. If you look at the traits Slytherin House Values i don't really think it applies well to Kaladin. 1) They are cunning and will use any means to achieve their ends, 2) they are power hunger and ambitious, 3) they value pure-blood wizards over muggle-born wizards. I just think there is too much in this value set that goes against Kaladin. 1) I really don't see Kaladin as the type that would achieve his goals by any means necessary. I think that would actually go against the ideals he has sworn to so far. Him and his men could have left the Kholin Army to die in order to escape and gain their freedom. Instead they did what was the right thing and helped save the Kholin army at risk to their freedom. Ultimately it worked out for them and Dalinar purchased their freedom from Sadeas but he could have avoided that but it wouldn't have been right.Take Sadeas. he is a perfect fit for Slytherin. He likes Dalinar, but to ensure he can influence Elhokar as he sees fit he is willing to leave Dalinar to die at the Tower rather than try to use other means to outmaneuver Dalinar politically. It is a cunning and ambitious move on his part. Something I don't think Kaladin has shown he would be willing to do. 2) Though he may want control over his life as a youth, i don't think that makes him ambitious or particularly cunning. Ambition I think would be more like wanting to be a lighteyes or become the king. He could have acted on ambition when he killed Helaran or when he won shardplate from helping Adolin in the 4 vs 1 duel. But he chose not to, he gave the plate and blade away both times. Most ambitious men in Roshar would have gladly accepted the shards. but he did not like what that would have made him. Sure he acts up and not just like a typical bodyguard. But i don't think that says anything about ambition because i don't see him as trying to gain anything by how he was acting. I think it actually illustrates that he is bold, daring, and has nerve by not accepting the status quo or bowing to anyone. I think that actually exemplifies more Gryffindor traits then anything. I think his main motivation is to protect his men and to do his job well in protecting the Kholin family. 3) The whole pure-blood vs muggle-born preference is too similar to the lighteyes vs darkeyes issue to me to think he would want to be in Slytherin. On rare occasions muggle-born are let into Slytehrin, the most notable example is Tom Riddle/Voldermort but he got in 1) because he was the last living heir to Slytherin himsel, 2) was definitely out for himself with no loyalty to any friends (if you can even say he had friends), 3) was willing to do whatever was necessary to accomplish his goals (severing his soul into 7 pieces, killing people at wil, etc), and 4) and was generally a sneaky git who was brilliant, cunning and ambitions. Slytherin to me would be made of lighteyes, with the muggle-born allowed in being those who were able to gain a shardeblade and become a lighteyes. I just don't see Kaladin being ok with this given his dislike of how lighteyes typically treat darkeyes so differently. I think he can learn skills to outsmart lighteyes, protect others, or show his worth in houses outside of Slytherin. Hermione was the most brilliant witch of her class and she wasn't in Ravenclaw, she was in Gryffindor. I think the core issues are really important and would lend Kaladin to either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff because of his bravery and loyalty. I just can't see him as a Slytherin because of their focus on using whatever means necessary, the importance they place on pure-blood wizards, and their ambitions and cunning values.

This thread is awesome as it brings together two of my favorite book series. I think it is important to actually look at the actual traits laid out in the books for what each house values. Below I summarized the traits of each house along with the quotes from the sorting hat songs in a few of the books. Gryrfindor (values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry): “Their daring, nerve and chivalry, Set Gryffindors apart.” “By Gryffindor, the bravest were Prized far beyond the rest;” “Said Gryffindor, "We'll teach all those With brave deeds to their name." Hufflepuff (values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its members): “You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil.” “For Hufflepuff, hardworkers were Most worthy of admission;” “Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot And treat them just the same." Ravenclaw (values intelligence, knowledge, and wit): “Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind;” “For Ravenclaw, the cleverest Would always be the best;” “Said Ravenclaw, "We'll teach those whose Intelligence is surest." Slytherin (values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness. Also values pure-blood wizards vs muggle-born wizards as the house is almost exclusively comprised of pure-blood wizards, with a few exceptions): “Or perhaps in Slytherin, Where you'll meet your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means, To achieve their ends.” “And power-hungry Slytherin Loved those of great ambition” “Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those Whose ancestry's purest." So this is how I would sort some of the SA characters based on the above information: Kaladin – Gryffindor. Goes fearlessly into danger on numerous occasions. I could also see him as a Hufflepuff for his loyalty to his friends or a Ravenclaw because he is intelligence and his upbringing as a surgeon. I completely disagree with anyone who suggests Slytherin. The whole pure-blood vs muggle-born issue is something that is too close to lighteyes vs darkeyes for me to think Kaladin would feel comfortable there. Also I don’t think he is that ambitious and cunning in the way Slytherin values. Shallan – Ravenclaw. Very smart. I don’t see her as being ambitious or cunning like the Slytherins. She is cunning because of her family’s circumstances. But ultimately decides to follow Jasnah to try to save the world from the desolations and is using her intellect and knowledge to that end. Adolin – Hufflepuff. He is extremely loyal and dedicated to his family and men. He is brave so I could see Gryffindor as well. But thinking about it more I think Hufflepuff is a good house for him. Dalinar – I would say the younger Dalinar is more Slytherin because I do think he was ambitious and out for himself (his whole hating his brother at times for being with Navani thing). However, I think the older Dalinar fits into Hufflepuff. He is not cunning like other highprinces and prefers fairplay. He is loyal to his friends/allies and not afraid of hardwork. I could see him being brave which fits into Gryffindor (like when he charges into the Parshendi by himself to save Sadeas. Though I think that even exemplifies Hufflepuff traits) but I think overall Hufflepuff is better for the older Dalinar that we know firsthand through the books. Szeth – He is a tough one. But I am settling on Hufflepuff. The traits of dedication and loyalty are too hard for me to ignore. He is dedicated and loyal to his religion and beliefs. Some might want to put him in Slytherin because he is a massive killer, but he is not doing that for any particular ends of his own. He is doing that to adhere to his beliefs and religion. Also he hates killing and knows nobody can stand against him and wishes he had a worthy opponent with the hope that person can best him and he can die, which I think hints at him wanting fair play and him acknowledging when he is killing throngs of people that he has more advantages and his fights aren’t fair. Jasnah – Ravenclaw through and through to me. So scholarly and intelligent it just fits. Elhokar – I don’t see him as particularly intelligent. I don’t think he is ambitious , cunning, or resourcesful. So I think Hufflepuff is appropriate as they will “teach the lot and treat them just the same.” I think he wants to be a good king and is willing to dedicate himself to try to work hard to be one, he just doesn’t have the skill for it so far. I go back and forth on his bravery. On the one hand he will charge a chasmfiend without blinking, on the other he is freaked out about assasins. I couldn’t take the paranoia and feel like it made him a good fit for Gryffindor. Ialai Sadeas and Torol Sadeas – These two are a sure bet for Slytherin. They fit all the values of that house. They are very political savy and cunning. They string Dalinar along and then abandon him at the Tower. They also outthink Dalinar and Adolin and get Adolin to face 4 shardbearers in the duel. They will use any means to achieve their ends in my opinion. Lirin – Ravenclaw. He is smart and values knowledge, wanting his son to train as a surgeon like him. He has bravery like a Gryffindor when he stands up to the townsfolk who want his spheres and when Roshone tries to intimidate him. So I could see Gryffindor, but his love of being a surgeon to me signals he belongs in Ravenclaw. Lift – I am leaning towards Gryffindor. I think she has nerve and daring. She sneaks into a palace to steal for one. Then when she is faced with her friend being hurt she goes back for him. Going back is pretty loyal and shows a Hufflepuff tendency, but the situation she goes back into I think shows bravery knowing she was being chased and Nalan’Elin and his minions were around the palace looking for her. Navani – Ravenclaw. She is a scholar to the core, that fits well with Ravenclaw. Renarin – Gryffindor. He is kind of the Neville Longbottom of SA. He is obviously book smart, but I think he is brave and will charge in without thinking about consequences. He charges in to help when the Chasmfiend is rampaging during the hunt in WOK, without armour. He also charges in without armour to help his brother during the 4-1 duel. I think under all his bookish demeanor is a brave Gryffindor who wants to be a fighter. Taravangian – Slytherin. I could have gone Ravenclaw because he is super smart on his good days. However, I think he exemplifies values of Slytherin. He is resourceful. He sacrificed his mind to have his one great day where he could see how to stop the end of humanity. He follows what he learned in that day regardless off of the consequences and shows he will use whatever means to achieve his ends. He is obviously cunning, using his secret society to orchestrate murders and other events throughout the world. Tien – Hufflepuff. He is loyal to Kaladin. He is patient and always able to cheer Kaladin up. I couldn’t think of anything that would cause me to want to put him in another house. Wit – Ravenclaw. His name is one of their values.

So i haven't ready WOR in a year and a half, so i might be way off. But people are speculating Shallan could possibly be illegitimate. But everyone is asking about the mother. Could it not be possible that her Father was the one who had an affair and Shallan was of a different mother? Would that not play into how her mother tried to kill her, why her father treats her a bit different, and would also account for the closeness in age between her and other siblings? Just thought i would throw it out there. I am not sure there is anything to back it up since i haven't read the book in a while, but given how people were talking it seemed on the surface there could be a different approach to how people should look at the situation.

SPOILERS! ---Does Kaladin like Shallan, and Vice Versa?---
gbazz4 replied to ChullRider's topic in Stormlight Archive
This has been an interesting thread to read. A lot of good stuff has been cited by various people. Shout outs go to Maxal and Seloun for all they have written. I tend to think that yes there is some evidence that Kaladin and Shallan are interested in each other. However, i don't feel that means they are going to end up together and i don't support the idea of them ending up together. Just because you have an interest doesn't mean you act upon those interests (plenty of people in relationships have interests in other people but they care about the person in their relationship more and won't act on their interests). I also see evidence she really cares for Adolin and i feel she will stay with him throughout the series. She may like Kaladin and find him interesting to think about, but i think she really likes Adolin and will be committed to him and not act on any interests she has in Kaladin. Besides, i think there will be some major issues that will pop up once she learns Kaladin killed her brother. I also think that since Adolin and Kaladin have grown into friends that he wouldn't steal Adolin's girlfriend. Somehow i think Syl would not feel too happy about Kaladin if he did that, just doesn't seem honorable to swoop in and take your friend's girlfriend. I don't think Kaladin and Shallan getting together is necessary for the story. I think they can be close friends since they have a lot they can share together. But i think the great thing about this series it will be so long, we are going to be introduced to more characters, and I am sure Kaladin will be introduced to one that he can fall for and will make sense as well. Besides maybe magic turns Syl into a flesh and blood woman and boom! epic love! (j/k) So ultimately, yes i think there is some evidence they like each other, but i just feel the way things are going that Adolin and Shallan will be together for the long haul. -
Help me craft a question to Brandon for my future signed books
gbazz4 replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
Good luck. I hope he answers some of your questions, I would be interested in hearing about the answers as I enjoy Adolin's character as well. -
I love this one, my wife and i have often thought if they can ride or be carried by the eagles why didn't they just fly to Mount Doom and drop the ring in? Granted then there is no story, but still. it seems pretty obvious as a solution. I can see Jasnah pointing out the logical flaw with the story. Also thanks for posting about this. pretty fun to consider. I would think they would all be like, what are all those animals? Why does Rohan have so many horses? Where are all the pieces "of wet slime" and why are we missing "a disgusting crab thing with seventeen legs" that slinks "across the rocks together on an insufferably rainy day?" Would they be confused by Ents and ask are they Treespren? Is Sauron like Odium? i think they would have so many questions about the LOTR and be confused by the world. It would be funny to hear their thoughts.

Sorry, I am taking a more nuanced approach with what i was trying to say. Kaladin would not have had the opportunity to publicly accuse Amaram in such a way had they not won the duel and him think he could ask for a boon. So i think it is relatively fair to say he went to prison because he helped Adolin. Without helping Adolin, Adolin gets beat in the duel, possibly seriously injured by a shardblade, and Kaladin stays mum and possibly tries at another time to accuse Amaram but wouldn't have done it there so he would not have been imprisoned. I think part of the reason why Adolin gets upset that Kaladin is imprisoned is because Kaladin just helped him out big time and he thinks it is wrong what they are doing to him. I was mainly trying to show that i think Kaladin would help Adolin at that time because he did help him when nobody else did by helping with the duel. Sorry if I was confusing, when you responded with this point my intent was to discuss when you were responding to Seloun's post saying: I thought it was discussing the fact that we thought Kaladin would do something to help Adolin should their roles have been reversed at that time and through a similar situation. So i was trying to say respond to your point where you didn't think at the time in the story Kaladin would do anything at all to help Adolin. I think he would, just not the same way Adolin did because they are different people with different views and thought processes. I would like to think that Kaladin would have tried to help Adolin should Adolin have helped him in a similar instance and been imprisoned. It may not have been a protest is what i am saying, but i would think he would work with Dalinar to help Adolin in those type of circumstances. I think if we are looking at the Sadeas situation, if Adolin gets in trouble because of it then I think Kaladin would try to help Adolin since he has no love for Sadeas.

I am not sure i would go so far as to say at this point in time in the story he would not have done anything at all. I mean the reason he did get into prison after all was because he helped save Adolin when nobody else would when faced with 4 shardbearers in the duel. He probably wouldn't have locked himself in prison as a protest (i can sort of understand that seeing as how he was locked up as a slave for months) but i would like to think he would try to work with Dalinar and think of something to get Adolin out if the roles were reversed.

I just reread this passage two nights ago when continuing my WOK reread. I never thought this was in any way related to secret societies or assassins. It seemed to me to be what it appeared to be in the book. Jasnah's explanation of what they were doing in the alley seemed pretty straightforward but i might not be catching something. ""Is it wise to be showing your wealth like that, Brightness?" Shallan said, speaking softly and glancing about her. "No," Jasnah said. "It is most certainly not. Particularly not here. You see, this street has gained a particular reputation lately. On three separate occasions during the last two months, theatergoers who chose this route to the main road were accosted by footpads. in each case, the people were murdered." Shallan felt herself grow pale. "The city watch," Jasnah said, "has done nothing. Taravangian has sent them several pointed reprimands, but the captain of the watch is cousin to a very influential light eyes in the city, and Taravangian is not a terribly powerful king. Some suspect that there is more going on, that the footpads might be bribing the watch. The politics of it are irrelevant at the moment, as you can see, no members of the watch are guarding the place, despite its reputation." - WOK, Chapter 36, Page 660. To me it always seemed clear this was a pattern of activity by thugs who were murdering people. I think it would be a very long shot assassination attempt to murder 3 groups with the hope Jasnah would try to deal with it on her own since the local law enforcement wasn't dealing with it. She is not a citizen of Kharbranth, and Taravangian didn't ask her to do it, why would she need to act? Also, if it was an assassination attempt, and they specifically wanted to attack Jasnah knowing she can soulcast, why wouldn't they have ranged weapons to attack her with? They had knives (page 662). Why would they also get surprised and panic by her soulcasting and run if they knew who she was and what she could do? It is interesting to consider the difference this might show between elsecallers and windrunners. But i am not sure it is indicative of anything against the oaths. She had a suspicion that she could get attacked there but it wasn't guaranteed. She defended herself and Shallan against an unprovoked attack (meaning just being there was not provoking like say slapping the guys or stealing from them would be provoking). I think that is why she was able to soulcast. If Kaladin was patrolling an area and was attacked do we think he could not defend himself and use his powers? I see it the same way. Also i think she was able to kill the ones who ran away to protect others who could be attacked should they escape., they were not innocents which i think could have conflicted with the first ideal, they were murderers. When Kaladin attacked Adolin on the training ground he wasn't defending himself or anyone he was trying to use his surges to best Adolin. Also when he lost his surges he had not adhered to his oath's to defend the king. Once he defended him against a known attack and said the words he gained them back and presumably could have used them against Moash should he have wanted to. I don't recall anything from that encounter that would have suggested he couldn't. So i think it is the same with Jasnah, she was attacked and was protecting herself and Shallan even if she was suspicious of possibly being attacked. Therefore to me it was not a violation of any oaths.

First off, I have to take a completely different view of GoT. I love the shows just as much as i love the books. Sure they take liberties with the story, every book adapted to a movie or show has that happen. I felt they stayed relatively true to the books for the first 2-3 season and it is only the last couple of seasons where things have varied quite a bit. It is frustrating, but i think part of it is out of necessity, GRRM takes so dang long to write each book they have caught up and need to take the show somewhere without all the books out. I actually think the acting is pretty good for a show, better than most things on TV. The special effects are pretty good, could be better, but on the whole i thought the adaptation to a show was pretty awesome. In my opinion it is way better done then when Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series (another of my favorites) got turned into "The Legend of the Seeker" which i thought was terribly done. The story there was changed, the dialogue and acting was awful, and the special effects was lacking. Why oh why would you kill my vision of a SA adaptation by mentioning Hayden Christensen as Kaladin? I felt he was the worst actor/character of the recent star wars trilogy (even worse then Jar Jar Binks!) when Anakin should have been amazing! Overall i would like to see an adaptation of SA. I think there is potential for live action but it would be costly. The computer game Warcraft is being turned into a movie and apparently the CGI is supposed to be great for that since all the ORCS are CGI. If that turns out to be accurate when it comes out next year then a live action SA might be a possibility without having to wait decades for better technology. But i think live action would be hard to do to give Roshar the justice it deserves. Just think of the ecology of the world, it is not like there is a really good location you can go to to make it look accurate, every little detail of shalebark and laits would have to be created to make it work to ensure fans wouldn't get upset by how different things were from the books. Animation is more practical way of doing it and i would enjoy it. I probably prefer anime that someone else mentioned in the Avatar the Last Airbender style. But would accept any type of animation to do an adaptation.

Most superstitions are nonsensical, but never underestimate the power of superstition! If you know anyone who plays sports they will have loads of superstitions and routines they must follow because they feel it needs to be that way to keep winning or playing well. I see this being just like most athletes superstitions who follow a pregame ritual before their games. Some will eat the same meal or wear the same socks or what not (I believe it is Mashawn Lynch with the Seattle Seahawks who eats skittles before and during every game). It is all nonsensical but if you win you think hey it must be because of the meal or the socks so i will keep doing it. So if Adolin wants the chicken give him the chicken and get out of the way so he can out duel someone i say!

The more i think about it Edgedancer seems like a good fit for Adolin if he becomes a KR. We know he is amazing as a duelist and Edgedancers were great on the battlefield. They are described as so: "They were once a glorious order,' Darkness said ... . 'Where you blunder, they were elegant things of beauty. They could ride the thinnest rope at speed, dance across rooftops, move through a battlefield like a ribbon on the wind. It is unfortunate they were always so concerned with small-minded things, while ignoring those of greater import." - Darkness tells Lift in the Interlude 9 "When Simol was informed of the arrival of the Edgedancers, a concealed consternation and terror, as is common in such cases, fell upon him; although they were not the most demanding of orders, their graceful, limber movements hid a deadliness that was, by this time, quite renowned; also, they were the most articulate and refined of the Radiants." WOR, Chapter 20, Page 12 Can you imagine Adolin sliding around the battlefield with abrasion when he is already a great fighter with a Shardblade? I also see that he really cares for his family, the motivation for why he does what he does at the end of WOR. So i can see him being caring and wanting to heal people with Progression. Also i know their second ideal is "I will remember those who have been forgotten." I feel like i have a recollection that somewhere in either WOK or WOR it is mentioned that Adolin remembers his mother and her loss was quite painful. I may not be remembering that right so feel free to correct me. But if my memory is correct then wouldn't that fit the ideal of the Edgedancers as the person who has forgotten Adolin's mother is Dalinar but Adolin remembers her? Seems like that could be a nice tie into being an Edgedancer if my memory is serving me well.

Fourth oath of the windrunners (spoilers)

I would have to respectfully disagree with this point. Dalinar is stubborn and feels he knows what is right, but he will listen to others and take their advice. I am doing a reread of WOK right now and just read yesterday 2 instances that illustrate this fairly well. 1) Allowing Teleb to train a bridge crew to allow the army to move faster on plateau assaults. (Chapter 26 WOK, in my paperback it is Page 456-457) "Brightlord," Teleb Said, stepping up to him. "Have you given thought to my suggestion about the bridges?" "You know how i feel about man-carried bridges, Teleb,"Dalinar said as the armor bearers locked his breastplate into place, then worked on the rerebraces and vambraces for his arms. Already, he could feel the strength of the Plate surging through him. "we wouldn't have to use the smaller bridges for the assault," Teleb said. "Just for getting to the contested plateau." "We'd still have to bring the chull-pulled bridges to get accross the last chasm," Dalinar said. "I'm not convinced that bridecrews would move us any more quickly. Not when we have to wait for those animals." Teleb sighed. Dalinar reconsidered. A good officer was one who accepted orders and fulfilled them, even when he disagreed. But the mark of a great officer was that he also tried to innovate and offer appropriate suggestions. "You may recruit and train a single bridge crew," Dalinar said. "We shall see. In these races, even a few minutes can be meaningful." 2) When Adolin gets into an argument with Dalinar about his visions (WOK end of Chapter 24), Dalinar thinks about this for quite some time, and combined with feeling disgusted by killing Parshendi (WOK battle in Chapter 26), he decides Adolin is right and plans to abdicate as highprince in favor of Adolin (WOK, end of Chapter 28). I feel like he does feel he is the best person to make a decision, and is strong willed, but he will listen to advice of others when he is convinced by them it is the right thing. In WOR i feel like i remember him listening to recommendations from Kaladin on occasions, but i can't recall the details right now. Furthermore, just based on how he runs his army i think it shows a good argument for relying on others. He can't do everything himself. So he trains his officers well and allows them to run everything under his overall direction. But he does delegate significantly. He also relies on Adolin to run things a lot throughout both WOK and WOR in an effort to prepare Adolin to be highprince. It takes him a while, but he uses Adolin and his dueling skills to try to accomplish his goals in WOR. And he relies on Kaladin to protect the King and his sons. so i think overall he shows a willingness to let others help. I think he just feels he needs to be in charge of what is going on. But that is my two cents. -
This is a really hard question to answer mainly because i feel like we know so little about the ideals/beliefs of several orders as well as we have very little information regarding certain surges.Until we get a fuller picture of all the orders and their surges (Cohesion and Tension in particular) i can't give a definitive answer. If i went by the Knights Radiant Quiz then i would be either a Bondsmith, Skybreaker, Stoneward, or Windrunner as i scored over 50% on all of them. However, if i choose on what appeals to me based on what we know currently about the orders i would choose Windrunner. I love their adherence to Honor and protecting people. Also, Flying (technically it is falling) would be awesome. Granted i am scared of heights but i feel if i had control over flying/falling, then i wouldn't be so scared. I don't really feel fear in an airplane, but at the top of a building i get queasy. Besides their color is blue, and that is my favorite color. Skybreakers and Dustbringers/Releasers sound pretty awesome based on their surges. Skybreakers can both fly/fall and blow things up. While Releasers can glide around and blow things up. Pretty cool surges. But Skybreakers are a bit too stuck on the letter of the law for me. Which is why i think i fall more into the Windrunner camp of adhering to honor. I would like to learn more about Releasers because they might be pretty awesome. Also i want to learn more about Stonewards as "resolve, strength, and dependability" characteristics sound interesting to me. For all of you who love lightweavers but don't feel you have any drawing skills, don't fret. If you have an affinity for any of the arts, including being: "writers, artists, musicians, painters, sculptors." then you should be fine.

So i took it 3 times. Twice with the exact same answers to see if there was any change in outcome and this was just randomly assigned to you. But it gave me the exact same results. 72% Bondsmith 59% Skybreaker 47% Windrunner 38% Stoneward 21% Elsecaller 6% Truthwatcher 0% Willshaper, Lightweaver, Dustbringer, Edgedancer Then i changed about 4-5 Questions with alternative answers i was originally torn about. 59% Bondsmith 59% Skybreaker 50% Stoneward 47% Windrunner 6% Edgedancer 6% Willshaper 0% Elsecaller, Truthwatcher, Lightweaver, Dustbringer So I guess it is confirmed that i am a Bondsmith. But also could just as easily be a Skybreaker. I also have strong Windrunner and Stoneward qualities. Though i confess i really wanted to be a Windrunner. There i so much fun i could have with that. But i am happy as a Bondsmith (Though we are getting a little crowded around here guys, aren't we supposed to only have 3?). EDIT: So I actually did a 4th one, i kept everything the same as the first 2 times i took it., except i answered the Spearman and Duelist question as spearman instead of Duelist. Here is the result of just that one question change on the first grouping. 84% Bondsmith 59% Skybreaker 58% Windrunner 50% Stoneward 11% Elsecaller 6% Edgedancer 0% Willshaper, Lightweaver, Dustbringer, Truthwatcher

Dubisx i am glad you persevered through the book. WOK is set up for a great ending. The last 150 or so pages is awesome. WOR has another amazing ending full of action and surgebinding. So keep going with it and you will enjoy it. You might actually like some of the cool dueling scenes scattered throughout WOR, they bring a nice change to more traditional battle scenes.
