  1. There's also the interlude in WoK where one of Szeth's masters hints at a story of stealing an orb from the Nightwatcher. It makes Szeth uncomfortable because it reminds him of the orb Gavilar gave him. There's no more information on what it is or if the story is even true, but it's possible that the Nightwatcher was the keeper of said orbs, or perhaps, she had been given one to watch after or had even stolen one herself.

  2. She isn't destroying art of the Heralds, as far as we know. She's destroying art of herself. Shalash's statue was missing at Gavilar's feast, and she was tearing out the eyes of "Ipan, Lady of Dreams" in Baxil's interlude. (The epigraphs state she 'scratches out her own eyes', which suggests this was another name for her).

Aaah, I was mis-reading what exactly she was doing. When she's in the hallway destroying a bunch of different kinds of art, I thought it was of all the different Heralds.

  3. I am very interested in seeing this WoB, and it sucks that I can't find it. One of my theories is that the Transportation Surge should belong to the Essences of Zephyr and Blood since both air and blood have very strong associations with the concept of transportation (though I'm not quite sure why the Surge ended up with Tallow and Foil).

I just want to try to figure out what patterns to look for between Heralds. I know one father/daughter connection isn't much, but if that affects how their attributes work or don't work together, or if it gives us something to look for between other Heralds, I think it would be really interesting to learn about/figure out.

I'll have to do some more close reading as I wok through WoR, but I just started, so I have plenty to look for.

Also, I had a thought. Do we know anything about why Shalash is destroying art of the Heralds? It's been awhile since I've read WoR. But I was thinking that if Jezrien really has fallen into drunkenness (if he's the one at the pauper's feast at the start of WoK) could her habit be a sort of retaliation to him? Or perhaps a retaliation to what they've all become, since abandoning the oathpact. She's just disgusted with what they represent vs. what they actually are like.

  4. Granted. It is acid snow that melts metal. Have fun!

I wish... I'm quite sure everyone knows what I'll wish for, but hey. I don't like being controlled by clowns. I'd better actually say it, so, I wish to not be controlled by anything.

    Granted.

You'll sneeze anytime someone says "bless you"

I wish all this snow would go away.

  5. I just found out the other day that Shalash is Jezrien's daughter. The coppermind wiki is awesome. As cool as it is, that just had me wondering about all sorts of other things. I tried finding some other answers, but didn't come across much, and wanted to know if I'm just missing something...

Do we know anything/have any other theories about the implications this has for the rest of the Heralds? It seems like a Father/Daughter relationship is something that's too significant to be a one-off fun fact. Is it possible there's a Mother/Son, or Husband/Wife, or Siblings among the Heralds?

Does this have any impact on how the KR work with each other? Jezrien and Shalash don't share any attributes (I thought maybe they would have one in common), but since they don't, are their attributes particularly complimentary to one another? Or perhaps more opposite. If I remember correctly, Honorspren and Cryptics don't exactly get along, and yet, they're the spren of a Windrunner and Lightweaver.

Or is it Father/Daughter like the KR were considered "brotherhoods". Is it assumed that this is an actual, biological connection?

When I found this out, I assumed that Shalash was born, grew up, and then she and her father became Heralds at the same time. I was also thinking it would be possible perhaps for her to have taken her mother's place as a Herald once Shalash grew up.

Basically, I have a ton of questions and I feel like there are a lot of implications this one thing could have for the rest of the Heralds and the dynamics of the whole group. If Taln was related to one of them, if he was particularly special to one of them, how could they leave him behind? If he was special to someone, and it's possible that the "Taln" in the books is not actually Taln, could it be the family that abandoned him?

  6. I wasn't sure where exactly to put this, but I noticed on Shalash's page, it's confirmed by a WoB that she is Jezrien's daughter. Or at least, it's posted on Theoryland. I wasn't sure if there were any book references, or hints that would have inspired someone to ask this question. I didn't see much on her particular wiki, since not much is known about her in general.

I assume we don't know who her mother is.

But when I checked Jezrien's page, it didn't mention Shalash at all. I feel like this is something that should be mentioned & I figure it's pretty significant. It makes me wonder about all the other Heralds. Are they also related?

Mostly I thought that this was a very interesting piece of info, and I haven't seen anyone else talking about it. But today is also my first day, so this might be information that everyone else is used to.

  7. Granted. You are colorblind, tone-deaf, and about as creative as a frozen sack of peas.

I wish for a pet dragon that doesn't try to eat me all the time, like my last one. By the Lord Ruler that was annoying

    Granted.

You're now allergic to dragons & break out in an ugly, itchy rash when around one.

I wish I had a never ending supply of fresh bananas.

  8. Who cares if it makes you seem ignorant. At least you will be able to be told that which you do not know.

Oh and welcome to the forums and all that jazz. ( why is it 'jazz'? things like this have always confused me, much like how most social interactions between *shudders* humans confuse me. )

Very true. I still want to finish rereading the Stormlight books at the very least before I start getting in too far over my head. Like I said in my first post, they're my favorite books and I'd love to get in to some theories surrounding that series. I'm sure there are still plenty of questions left unanswered that will be fun to research and discover.

Question, though. How easy is it to go through WoB and find answers? It sounds like his interviews and Q&As offer a wealth of information, but I also feel like there's a lot there that might make it harder to find specific references.

  9. Did someone say reread?

Sorry for the shameless plug.  Welcome to the forums!

Yes!! I've found your thread already. The "take note" feature on my kindle has been getting quite a work out. Although, I'm thinking about starting a little notebook for thoughts and passages of particular interest, sort of like Jasnah does. It's not that easy to type on a kindle, though that does have the added effect of making me think about what I'm actually writing down.

I've thought about sharing my own notes, but I feel like there's a lot I don't quite understand yet, and I'm afraid my "notes" will reveal my ignorance on several matters.

  10. Hello, everyone! I thought I was slowly starting to understand hidden aspects of WoK, and then I come by here for the first time and realized that there is SO MUCH that I'm missing out on. It appears that I have a lot more in-depth reading to do, as I don't understand Brandon's works nearly as much as I thought I did.

My name is Molly. I'm 24 and have been reading Brandon's books since about 2009. I haven't read everything of his, though, and a light browsing of the forums makes me want to go back and dig into everything all over again. I love it. I'm almost done with my 4th re-read of WoK, and will be moving on to WoR next. Those are probably my favorite books, and I want to refresh my memory of what happens in them before I really start trying to keep up with all of the experts here.

I look forward to learning more about  the cosmere and all you lovely folks. I'm sure the more I explore, the more questions I'll have.
