  1. I highly recommend Red Rising. Pierce Brown weaves some amazing themes in that series and has not shown any signs of slowing down!
  2. I have read everything by Rothfuss so far and have enjoyed his work for the most part. For some reason I am terribly worried about book three in the Kingkiller Chronicles. I cannot exactly pinpoint why but with movies being developed to go along with television shows reportedly I just fear Pat may end up changing the original intention of the series as a result of recent developments. I hope I am wrong and I probably will be; which is good! I just am worried about the series a little bit. Thoughts?
  3. @Hoids Imaginary Friend Some great recommendations! Thank you! I have a question regarding Brent Weeks Lightbringer series. Having not read this series yet I was wondering about your thoughts concerning the later books in the series. I have heard from fans of Weeks that Lightbringer starts amazing but then begins to lose focus in later books almost becoming a chore, (as described to me by a friend). What is your opinion of the series as a whole so far?
  4. @Llarimar First of all thank you for the recommendations. I have heard of Soleri and will definitely be giving the book a try as well as The Shadow of What was Lost. Both look extremely intriguing and I am always willing to give a first time author a shot. Supporting up-and-coming writers is just such a positive thing to do! I am so happy you tried Red Sister by Mark Lawrence too!! Once you have finished the book please let me know what you thought! I have enjoyed Lawrence for awhile. I still have not read the sequel yet due to a reread I am doing right now of Mistborn but will be hopefully getting to it soon.
  5. HI Everyone, Per the title my question for the community revolves around what you are reading while waiting for Sanderson's Cosmere work or simply any of his work? The reason I ask this question is because there seems to be a wide range of answers to this question and personally I am looking for reads that may help me as I wait for the next Cosmere work to be published. Oftentimes when I finish anything by Sanderson I am left usually shocked, and wanting to immediately pick up another Sanderson book. My follow up question would be if you were to reread the Cosmere, what reading order would make the most sense, including the Arcanum Unbound collection? I have had numerous discussions with fellow fans about this and there seems to be a lack in general consensus towards a reading order for the Cosmere? Finally has anyone read Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence yet? I read Red Sister and it helped me while I was waiting on Sanderson's next work. Any further recommendations always appreciated! Update: A huge shout out to everyone who has commented so far on this thread and my apologies for posting this under the wrong forum! I will definitely be taking on many of the recommendations listed so far. With summer nearly here it is high time to start digging deeper into the Cosmere and other series.
  6. I think your right. I think the characters of Wit and Shallan have a lot in common and because Wit has been around so long and scene so much he is able to offer meaningful advice. I wish book 4 was out already!
  7. No I really appreciate your perspective. I think this scene takes place in a spot that can kind of seem a little jarring particularly on a first read through. I think this conversation between Wit and Shallan may bleed into book 4 as you say. In particular the bottom of page 793 really just was moving in the way Wit took on this supportive mentorship role. I love to how he disappears after the conversation. I didn't get the sense Shallan had the opportunity to let his words sink in, at least in book 3, but I think book 4 might bring out Wit's message. After I read through this chapter a second time I really came to appreciate the way Brandon took sort of a "timeout" from the story, paused the momentum that had been building, in order to sprinkle in some character development.
  8. Anyone else put Oathbringer down after chapter 82 where Wit speaks to Shallan? I was blown away at the dialogue in this scene and the way Wit was able to tap into Shallan's biggest regrets/failures and illustrate how she needed to move beyond them. Truly one of the most moving parts in this third chapter. Any thoughts from the community on this scene?
  9. So recently I have had friends telling me to go read James Moore's Seven Forges series. My question goes out to everyone who has read the first 2 books, are they any good? I have some friends saying its a series much like A Game of Thrones but with less filler. Sanderson and Martin are two of my favorite authors and I have read and watched everything of theirs(missing Game of Thrones like crazy). Is this series worth reading while Martin and Sanderson are cooking up their next books? Or is there something better?
  10. Thank you so much for the insight!!
  11. Okay help me out what is nightblood and what other series does it play a role in the Cosmere? Thanks
  12. Do you think Brandon will expand on the story then?
  13. I absolutely loved the concept and the world building of this novella. I am dying to know if Brandon will expand it in the future into a series. Do you guys think he would and if so would the series belong to a preexisting world/series Brandon has already announced?
  14. Thanks everyone for the insight. I ordered the complete trilogy of the Mistborn series yesterday from amazon and am excited for them to arrive. Okay my favorite character from the Stormlight series so far! Oh man that is a hard one. I think overall my favorite character has to be Szeth at this point. He is just so interesting and there is so much we do not know about him yet. Words of Radiance was awesome because we got to see more of who he really is and I just am excited to see the direction he ends up taking. My favorite thing about the Stormlight Archive is the world itself. I am an avid reader of fantasy who has read Martin, Erikson, Jordan, Rothfuss and various others but Brandon's for me has been the best. Now I am not an old man (just a college student with too much time on his hands;) and after reading the first two books in The Stormlight Achieve I just came to appreciate the originality of what Brandon created versus what everyone else was doing. All the authors I mentioned above are incredible but Brandon's series I just purely enjoy the most. I also just read his novella The Sixth Of Dusk yesterday and was blown away by that story as well. His Cosmere universe is incredible and I have a lot of catching up to do. Thank you all for asking me questions. That was cool!
  15. Does anyone think the stormlight archive could be turned into a television series?
  16. Hello Everyone, I am a rather newer fan of Brandon's work and have absolutely loved his Stormlight Archive series so far. Both books have captivated me and I am now looking for direction on where to go from here now that I have joined the official fan site! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
