Hello! I'm thinking of extending my Lightweaver glyph tattoo* by adding an image of Pattern peeking out from behind it in white ink. http://imgur.com/a/QF313 The the handles are bone wrapped with koloss leather. I'd never knapped any sort of glass or flint before, so this was a learning experience! They aren't as pretty as a more advanced craftsman could create, but the birthday girl really loves them and keeps threatening to stab me, so that's what counts.

I was planning on making a traditional knapped blade out of some obsidian spalls. I'm a beginner at this, but I am fairly crafts-y in general. Not that this means I am going to be churning out masterworks or anything, but I am pretty confident that I can at least make something knife-shaped As for "elegant and fast," what do you think would be the best way of achieving that look?

So I'm making a pair of a Mistborn's obsidian knives as a present, but I'm a bit stuck on the design phase. Traditionally, an obsidian or flint knife would be attached to a haft with pine pitch and tied with leather or sinew, but I am pretty sure that they didn't have pine trees in the Final Empire. What sort of material do y'all think the haft would be made of (wood? Bone? Antler?), and how would it be attached? I can always use modern epoxy as the adhesive and wrap it with something cool looking, as well. Or maybe it is a solid piece of glass, with a leather or cloth wrapped handle. From what I recall, the hafting for a glass knife was never really discussed in the series, but it's definitely possible I'm just forgetting.

Did a bit of searching around the forum, and a few people have suggested that compounders could fill a metalmind without permanently draining their own resources, but I thought the southerners didn't have allomancers, given their reaction to Wax? Or maybe they have a set of metalminds the fireparents use that grant them misting-style allomancy, giving them the ability to compound when wearing them.

I understand the idea behind the identity/nicrosil hack to create a universal unkeyed metalmind, but I'm still a bit confused about where the second metal's storage comes from. Let's say that, for example, somebody makes a nicrosil + steel medallion that anybody can use. Where does the speed in the steel come from? Is there somebody walking around who is permanently slow, having given up their speed to the steelmind segment? And is there somebody who has completely drained their investature to fill the nicrosil? Similarly, how could metalminds like the spearhead grant somebody allomancy? So confused! Thanks!

Interesting thoughts! I guess it does make sense that the historic thousands-of-years-old meanings of glyphs would drift over time. Anyway, I am asking because I want to engrave the Lightweaver glyph on my phone case, and wanted to make sure I was doing the right one.
