  1. I don't think the metal would matter in this case as invested metal might resist steel pushes, it's the electronics inside that would keep it going. In this example, the bomb would keep ticking. Well I guess if it were all mechanical and each component were invested. Huge amounts of invested metal for those purposes would be the perfect opportunity for a less-than-useful Compounding Twinborn to become indispensable as they continuously fill metal with infinite amounts of their trait. Of course the Twinborn's metal would have to work for what they're building.
  2. You're right. I guess I didn't give Brandon enough credit for having thought through his characters' motivations and life choices. Man, I respect and admire the heck out of that man's thoroughness and planning.
  3. I don't know if this has already been stated or if revealed logic of time bubbles contradicts this but I thought of a VERY practical use for Pulsers in the world. SLOW DOWN THAT TIME BOMB! Brandon has mentioned one of his planned Mistborn series will have a plot with a Misting SWAT-like team tracking a Mistborn serial killer. This sparked the idea for me of a bomb squad and the use of a team of Pulsers being called in to overlap their bubbles over the bomb, effectively multiplying the time left on that bomb. If the Pulsers all surrounded the bomb in a circle and burned Cadmium, the "outsiders" would have a ton of time to strategize and plan and bring in a bomb specialist or what not. This is of course a stalling tactic but a very useful one when every second counts. And the Pulsers would be spaced so that each member weren't in the effect of the others, so they don't share the same time as the bomb. Or maybe they were in the effect of the other Pulsers's bubbles at either side, but it still wouldn't be nearly as much as all of them overlapping the point in the center of their circle where the bomb was. Thoughts?
  4. So those are the names from the MAG? And until contradicted by Brandon, they're canon right? honestly a lot of the names there don't seem to carry the flavor of names Brandon gives the various mistings/ferrings. Which is understandable considering he didn't write them. So I see them being overwritten easily in future books where they become relevant.
  5. That's a really good point. It's possible due to Ham's good nature, he may have chosen a very different career path than soldier/hired muscle had he not been born a Thug. Same could go for Breeze and not having gotten so good at smooth talking if he didn't know he had such an advantage.
  6. It was mentioned in HoA on one of the steel plates of a storage cache that many rioters/soothers could work together to pull/push on a kandra/koloss to break through their barrier and take control of them. But who then gets the actual control? I would think it unlikely that they'd all share control as that would make it really complicated and what if 2 people gave conflicting commands? Are there any WoBs on the subject? If not, someone needs to ask him
  7. Those are exactly what I'm talking about. I especially love your RPG Obligator. An accountant with super strength is an apparent waste and uses the secondary effects of the metal to further his career. I felt like it was a great play on the powers in the books to have the characters match their powers. A soldier thug of Ham. A master manipulator soother of Breeze. A nervous lookout tineye of Spook. But there weren't many characters who didn't seem perfectly matched to their metal. I hope we see more of them in the books.
  8. Wax's Twinborn name is catchy, simple, and intuitive. A Coinshot Skimmer is a Crasher. The connection is clear. One who manipulates body weight and pushes on (or away from) metal is a force to be reckoned with. Crashing into things seems a natural occurrence with this combo. Wayne is a Slider Bloodmaker. His use of the power is very clever and effective, making his fighting style one-on-one and healing any wounds before leaving the bubble. What catchy, simple, and intuitive name would Scadrians give a Twinborn like Wayne? I wish I had an idea of my own to start off the topic. Someone get the creative juices flowing!
  9. It would depend if he had eyes that worked at least a little bit. If he were born without eyes or they were removed or damaged beyond usability, then no, he couldn't use sight at all. But if he were only "blind" like very very poor eyesight, then a sight tinmind would work for him, even if tapping it only improved his sight to what's "normal" for the rest of us
  10. I know huge fans will say "yes, of course". But for someone who doesn't typically read humongous fantasy books but still loves Brandon's Cosmere and loved the Mistborn trilogy, is it still recommended? I'm just afraid of reading a book that takes forever to get the ball rolling and develop characters. Is that a downside to Stormlight or does Brandon pretty much avoid those problems?
  11. I was just thinking about a feeble old woman who was a pewterarm. It would be awesome to see that in the books! We've only seen Vin and Shan Elarial as women burning pewter and they were both mistborn. Imagine an aged woman, stricken with arthritis, needing to defend her grandkids from a threat and burned pewter. Suddenly not aching in the joints and no longer cold. She beats up a group of men or some other thing. That's an awesome scene. I imagined what if my older, red-faced and stout boss were a steel ferring. Suddenly running at inhuman speeds. What other unlikely matches of people/powers would you like to see in the stories or can imagine as awesome and unexpected?
  12. I think a master manipulator of the human form (muscles and bones in general) wouldn't have much trouble improvising more efficient ways to move a massive body without giving up its usefulness and range of motion. Brandon could definitely think it up
  13. Square cubed law?
  14. I was thinking about when TenSoon absorbed a pig to give more muscle mass to his horse body in HoA, and wondered if there were any limit to the total mass he could wield. Because if not, a clever Kandra could commission a very large True Body out of metal and make a very large body with tons of muscle mass and pretty much make the Blessing of Potency irrelevant. Thy would be giants and rival even the largest koloss in size and strength.
  15. He said that? The direct inspiration?
  16. That's good logic but we know hemalurgy actually came last of the 3. It was added to round out the 3 like you say: positive, neutral, negative. But feruchemy and Allomancy came first and later were brought together. The simple idea of batteries makes sense. I wonder if it came when someone told Brandon, "save your strength". And he said "fine I will! In pewter!"
  17. The topics says it. I'm sorry if this sort of question belongs elsewhere considering it's not directly about the story but the writing of it. I've always been really fascinated by Feruchemy and am wondering if Brandon has ever mentioned what inspired it, if anything. I know the idea of metal being a focus for the power came about when he decided to put Allomancy and Ferucemy together in the same story.
  18. I don't have a WoB but he's answered this. The charge is split proportionally between the pieces of the original. So if a metal mind is broken exactly in half, then each half gets 50% of the stored attribute. And they're still usable. Also, the nail in the table would be the only part that works as a metalmind because while we've learned that the cognitive realm effects things, feruchemy can still only store in metal.
  19. I was wondering that too! They seemed so strange the way they were described then ignored. Because if they were put there by TLR, why would he make pottery discs, place beads on them, then immediately take the beads and shatter the discs? It's like assembling an Oreo cookie, only to immediately twist the top off, eat the icing, and discard the two ends. Another consideration is that Vin's description of them as pottery is only her observation. Many times does Brandon show us that his characters don't always know the truth of their world and what's going on. It could be the discs only appeared that way, but were actually made of something entirely different and were producing the beads. It makes sense considering atium' origins. And that shattering the discs ensured no more would be created. And then who shattered them? Hoid or TLR? Could the others have regrown and Hoid actually did take those too and left the one for Elend? So many questions!
  20. Was there any significance to the pottery discs found on the stone ledge in the cavern holding the WoA? It's mentioned as Vin and Elend observe their surroundings there, with only one pottery disc intact with the remaining Lerasium bead on it. And we know that Hoid was there before them and grabbed a bead for himself. Why do they break the pottery after grabbing the bead? Why did Hoid leave that final bead? Anyone have theories or WoBs on this? Or am I the only one who thought the broken discs was too odd and wonder why Hoid left a bead when he could have taken it?
  21. Yeah I think actually your age is something in the cognitive realm. Which is why Miles in AoL, even though he's immune to all decay and illness because of his gold compounding, would still age and die from age because he cognitively viewed himself as getting older. Despite aging being a problem of cellular decay or something like that.
  22. There'd have to be information on your Spirit web of your true age or else storing youth would get messed up. Storing youth has to be hardwritten somewhere to determine what age you return to once you stop tapping or storing an atiummind. Thoughts?
  23. That seems likely to me because otherwise there would be an imbalance in feruchemy that young feruchemists would gain the strength of an older body by STORING youth which they'll all have rather than having to TAP pewter they've stored
  24. That makes sense. I guess I was confusing age/youth with lifespan. Edit: its never been touched on in the books but does anyone have a theory of how it works for a prepubescent feruchemist to store youth and make himself an age that is post pubescent? His body is going to be larger and stronger and all that with the older body. so mass and strength is just gained while storing his youth? Or maybe there's an unsavory effect of youth storage from a prepubescent feruchemist. Maybe the Terris people keep atium minds away from their young feruchemists. Maybe it's built into the magic system to be like an old looking child, Benjamin-button style Thoughts?
  25. So, reading the OP, the logic seems to make sense. That atium ferrings could extend their lives. But shouldn't it not be possible? Since feruchemy is end neutral, shouldn't you not be able to live longer than normal. I've never really given atium feruchemy much though outside of TLR's compounding. I'm not talking about the logic presented here in this thread, just the end result seems contrary to the basic principles of feruchemy.
