  1. He shows up in one scene at a city gate and neither he nor that location ever reappear in the story after that chapter.

Just a dude visually described only as 'what looks like some sort of autonomous lieutenant in a garrison or something' and 'looks like he likes ham'.

Inspired by my question to Sanderson that got a RAFO about Ham's friend in the Luthadel garrison named Bevidon who has a similar role in Mistborn, and his connection to Bavadin, AKA Autonomy

Posted here because I'm pretty sure none of my readers picked up on it and I wanted SOMEONE to get the joke.

The Anime Club on Royal Road, chapter name Legend if anyone's interested

The prologue and a few recent chapters may also feature some far more blunt-force references

    Here's my pitch:

Dalinar wins the contest, Kaladin and Szeth cure Ishar and purge Shinovar of the unmade, Shallan frees Ba-ado-mishram, and no one dies. El turns out to be a generic villain that kills no one and accomplishes no one before getting killed himself. Taravangian's plan gets immediately thwarted and he loses all credibility as a competent antagonist. Kaladin gets magically cured of his all his depression/PTSD and goes back into battle immediately. Happy ending, the good guys win, the bad guys lose, and the narrative tension is forever destroyed.

That reminds me of my favorite ending idea for A Song of Ice and Fire

The Red Comet impacts the middle of the map, causing a planet-devistating natural disaster, killing everyone, and sending a larger message about the pointlessness of all their scheming and betrayals.

  3. In Rhythm of War, Raboniel mentions that they tried space travel, and died

During that she mentioned ( paraphrased ) :

" the strange pressures of that place "

Do we know whether that's just normal interplanetary space stuff?

or are the pressures she mentioned Cosmere-specific?

For example, I could see something like a pressure-based storm in space being caused by a reaction between Honor, Cultivation, and Odium at that distance.

but anyway, has that ever been confirmed in either direction?

    Hey, thanks for the ping!

While the word 'masturbatory' can genuinely be used in this context, it does carry a sexual connotation. It's removed enough that we're willing to let it pass, but we would like you to keep in mind the line from our Code of Conduct which says: "It is every member's responsibility to make this community an enjoyable and comfortable place. Text based messages do not always come across as intended and as our community spans the globe, language barriers can also present further misunderstandings--remember to give people the benefit of the doubt as it is likely the case that they have good intentions."

This is not something we as staff are going to edit out ourselves in this context, or PM the members involved about. However, it does bother some people, and it's not hard to change it to 'self-indulgent' or something else less crass, if you're willing. We would prefer for all members to feel comfortable in our community. In the end, it's Bacon's choice.

Please feel free to make a thread in 17S Discussion if anyone wants to discuss this further.

    Ok, I can do that

It doesn't quite get across the same meaning, but a slightly diluted message is certainly preferable to all this mess.

Honestly, no, I disagree with your analysis. I think it was Taravangian's seeing the future for the first time and all of the possible paths. He thinks to himself that that ability is amazing and deep. Not that the story is amazing and deep.

P.s. this is not a comment on my view of the Stormlight Archive. It is my favorite fictional series at the moment and is the series that Harry Potter fans think that Harry Potter is (I said it. It had to be said.)

it's not all possible paths, just the most likely one.

The future Odium sees is like a highly-detailed snapshot.

And I don't think Sanderson did that on purpose. That's why I find it funny. Because the effect is the same.

The diagram Odium paints is precisely a projected outline of the plot going forward from that specific moment, based on everything Sanderson had planned at the time of that writing.

That's a weird way to categorize people.

Not that I'm gonna stop you from having a club about it.

I only said that to emphasize that it was a time in my life when sleep and meetings were the only times I wasn't actively reading Oathbringer.
