  1. Perhaps it is just an assumption that it is distance. Maybe it is how long Kaladin has been away instead? When Kaladin drops the king off with Lopen it was presumably only the length of the unexpected highstorm, and the Everstorm before we see Lopen begin growing the arm back. Now Kaladin has been away a full day. I just dont think that with a windrunner having around 20-30 squires (perhaps more? I dont know how many men are left in Bridge Four) would preclude them from being used as scouts or even to deliver a message through an Oathgate as they would lose their abilities once they did.
  2. I'm with edgedancer that the hint is in the conversation with Edmund. When I first read Edmund claim he had no weakness my immediate thought was to call bs. Further contemplation brought me to the conclusion that maybe he had a weakness to a specific breed of dog and not others. Now I'm just not sure.
  3. I kinda disagree that it is simply failure. He fought for an extended time against Steelheart with the entire plan failing around him in the first book. If failure was his weakness wouldn't that have negated his ability to heal himself, thus killing him? It could still be failure, but I think it would have to be a very specific failure.
  4. Reading Firefight was like......having sex when your fall down drunk. You want it all, but your not sure you can finish it. Before you know it it's 5am before your done.
  5. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Perhaps it was just Brandons way of showing that the Spren isn't fully dead, but I can't help but think it is important for Relis specifically. More than any other person. He is angry at Adolin, but who wouldn't be if that was your relative Adolin made a spectacle out of. Otherwise he isn't really shown as a bad person, and if Seth can become a Radiant with all the blood on his hands then why not Relis. I think the event also bring up another important question. Why was specifically heard. My assumption is that he heard a question voiced to him as the wielder. In that case knowledge of the exact question phrasing could provide an interesting view on what we know of the Recreance.
  6. Thank you all for your welcomes. When I found Hoid I had read Warbreaker and Way of Kings consecutively. The storytelling technique he used in both books was so similar I had little doubt the were the same character. Upon a reread of The Final Empire when Kelsier meets him for information, I knew he was appearing to often for it not to mean something. As a side note, I had at first thought I found him in The Hero of Ages under a false name (Slowswift) due to a love of stories even if the description didn't seem to match, only to be disappointed and actually discovering him just moments later.
  7. I would first like to apologize if this has been covered before. I am still very new here, but a quick search did not produce any fruit to my query. We know from reading the book that those who have bonded with a spren can not touch another shardblade without hearing a peircing scream within their minds and most likely quite a bit of pain based upon the tears produced by Renarin with prolonged contact with his blade in the dueling arena. Dalinar hears it upon stating his first two Ideals with the Stormfather and Kaladin hears it upon pulling of the Lastclap in the dualing arena when coming to Renarin's aid. But then we have this curious event when Kaladin pulls off this feat. Quote: Relis dropped the Blade as if bitten. He backed away, raising his hands to his head. “What is it? What is it! No, I didn’t kill you!” I believe it has already been reasonably assumed that those possesing the Nahel Bond with a spren hear echos of the spren who have unfortunately had thier sentience ripped from them in the form of the scream (kind of obvious of course). Why then does it feel like Relis is responding to a direct question from the Shardblade, awoken by Kaladin's touch? Is he hearing speech and possibly forming a bond with a long lost spren where others hear only the scream? Is it possible that Relis may be the only person capable of returning this particular spren to sentience? A chance that he will now never have as a result of the forfeiture of the Blade upon the conclusion of the bout and subsequent possession by Adolin? Any thoughts are welcome.
  8. Well, hello everybody. As I'm quite sure you can see I am skyeel. I stumbled onto Brandons works only a couple years ago by accident. While I've always agreed with the old adage not to judge a book by its cover, I was intrigued by the cover for the Mistborn Trilogy. I had never been quite so enthralled by a writer of this genre before ( I had read many fantasy books but none captured my imagination in the manner this set did). I returned to the amazon page and reread the description of the series to find out Brandon had completed TWoT series and decided right then to make it my next reading project. I enjoyed the first several books before the series turned into a wrestling match between finishing the series or pulling out my own hair. When I read books 12 and 13 I knew Brandon had been the right man to complete the epic. I read a few other books while waiting for A Memory Of Light to be released and found myself searching out Sanderson's other works where I discovered a curious thing. A single name jumped out at me from several different books. I had discovered Hoid. A quick google search taught me about the Cosmere and I must say I became an instant fan. and I had finally found an author I could call my favorite. I am a big fan of Stephen King's Dark Tower and to find another writer who wished to do something similar on a much grander scale has captured the furtherest reaches of my mind. This is probably enough information about how I have found myself within your ranks. Much more and I may just find a mutiny against me on my first day. Thanks for reading my ramblings.
