  1. I've loved Adolin so far, and if he dies.. I honestly don't know that I'll do. I mean, if Adolin died, what would Shallan do? I believe that Kaladin wouldn't get married. He's more of a loner, and if someone could get him to open up, I think that it would be Jasnah. Renarin isn't Shallan's type, so Adolin is the only candidate. Shallan has had too much bad happen in her life for Brandon to do away with her lover
  2. Thanks for replying I get what your saying. Strengths may be too "strong" of a word to use there, but she does what a lot of characters don't, and is humble enough to know her own shortcomings. Or at least, most of them So that's a strength in and of itself. It was just my take on it Oh! And I think you may be misreading! The sentence says "Even through her struggles, she recognizes that she can’t hide from them..."
  3. Hello all! I recently wrote an article about Shallan Davar on my blog, and I was wondering what ya'll here would think of it. I'm not sure if it is correct, but it is my view of Shallan. There aren't any real spoilers here, but some minor ones. I am assuming if you are here though, you will have read at least the Way of Kings, so here it is! Shallan Davar: As I read once more through Shallan’s part in the Stormlight Archive, I am able to further study her nuances and characteristics as a main player in the plot. She is much more than the actor of an important role. She isn’t put into the story for filler, or to be used and killed in some non-momentous scene. She has real personality, and real problems. She struggles with doubting of herself. She has emotional turmoil from an abusive father and lack of a mother. However, she has taken her struggles and ordeals, and turned them into who she is, rather then why she is. She’s not constantly telling herself that she has inner problems because of her father, her mother, insane brothers, or any of the other intense situations of her past. She takes these things, and makes them hers. When she is pursuing a ward status with Jasnah Kholin, she doesn’t make excuses for her lack of education, yet she makes her lack of education a reason why she should be taken as a ward. Shallan doesn’t give an explenation of an overprotective father, or insane brothers as reasons why she may not be socially adept, or may sometimes be too loose with her tongue. Nope, Shallan uses these facts as to explain that these problems, these issues, are who she is, and that Jasnah Kholin would be a fool not to accept her. I believe that the reason Shallan Davar is so deep, is that she is who she is. Even through her struggles, she recognizes that she can’t hide from them, and she might as well accept them. Granted, she still has some things she has yet to come to terms with, but even there, she works her way toward coming out of that turmoil. It is difficult to find fault with her, or even to be upset with her decisions, however unlawful or hurtful they may be. She has managed to captivate me all 150,000+ words that I've read with her, and I'm completely looking forward to discovering more about her.
