  1. Full disclosure: I would read a book called (Prof and Tia Didn't Tell the Other Reckoners They Could Time Travel So None of Them Wouid Suspect Their Leaders Were Secretly Responsible For) Killing Kennedy. It does raise the question of not only how much Tia knows, but of how much she is both directly and indirectly responsible for. Not only am I wondering if NASA may have caused:summoned Calamity, but I'm also wondering if Prof hadn't known Steelheart way back when. In the first book, it says Prof was staring at the image of Steelheart with intense hatred, so maybe that has something to do with, well, everything. Basically, I'm starting to wonder if Prof and Tia weren't complicit in the whole rise of Epics thing.
  2. Perfect. The amusing name has been up voted.
  3. Confession time: I feel the urge to upvote you just because I find your name so amusing.
  4. Firefight was where I began to trust Tia less and less. Calamity will prove how misplaced those feelings were, but for now, it seems highly suspicious that she knew as much as she did and didn't let on. Here's just a sampling of the things Tia did know and didn't bother sharing with most of the Reckoners: That Prof was an Epic The extent of Regalia's powers Prof and Regalia's early history as Epics And there are other things she may have known as well: That Calamity was humanoid How Epics receive their powers Motivators Rendings That Prof was planning to kill Megan The second list is highly prone to inaccuracy, so if there's anything that contradicts what I put on it, feel free to correct me. My point is, though: Tia obviously knows more than she's letting on. And I get why they kept the Prof thing a secret—Prof said it himself early on; they have to let people think ordinary people are behind the assassinations. But why all the secrets? And how many more is she keeping?
  5. "You must deflect all bullets and outrun every foe while they appear to stand still before you!" "So...you basically want me to be Neo from The Matrix?" "Yes! Be Neo or we will cut you out of your inheritance!" "Why can't you just want me to get good grades like everyone else's parents?" My guess: skin cancer. It's UV light that causes his powers to short out.
  6. I like the idea of powers giving Epics control over their fears, but it's hard to say how electricity powers gave Sourcefield control over being poisoned. It might fit, what with it allowing her to become intangible and thus immune to poison, but it's a bit of a stretch.
  7. Cool. Thanks. I was thinking I'd change his name to Blight, though Ozymandias is a lot more badchull.
  8. From the list in Epics of Oregon, I was looking at Entropic Decay. Is it all right if I use him in Funtimes' backstory?
  9. "Honey. There's an empath on the back porch." "Oh no. Want me to grab the bazooka that can turn him into a flowerpot?" "Nah, a shotgun should be fine." "But...why?" "I don't like flowerpots."
  10. Well, there's that. Nathan's formal education ended his freshman year in high school, when Steelheart took over. I'm not sure how much the tests favor the educated, but he'd do well on practical and critical thinking questions. Anything involving reasoning would earn him a decent score. Remington would definitely advocate shooting things. "You have a door that measures 8 ft by 4 ft. The doorknob must go at a height reachable by children and adults. The heights of the children and adults who must use the door are as follows...." "Grab a rifle, eyeball where the doorknob should go, and shoot to mark the spot. Install the sparking doorknob and move on with your life."
  11. The fact that half his time was taken up with muttering "this is stupid" and asking the administrator when he was ever going to use that crap, he ran out of time. Though crumpling the test and throwing it in the administrator's face actually helped them fudge his score. I'm suddenly wondering how my characters would do. I know Funtimes would pass with flying colors (not only because she'd add ribbons to the bottom of each page), but I'm not sure about Nathan and Remington.
  12. New goal: craft at least one Remington quote for every life situation. Completely. Scorch definitely would have "tested" his powers on poor Mr. Ringle if the mood struck. Which it would have. I cling to my headcanon that someone fudged his score. He actually tested into the Lambda category, but he threatened the administrator into placing him into Epsilon.
  13. Like Remington said, people don't have near enough sugar in them. Also, Nighthound sucks. But that goes without saying. I guessed as much. And I liked it! (Though I think Scorch's score in the Epsilon percentile is a bit generous. )
  14. I caught the reference. Also, Sam? People are fun. They're not fun to eat. It's an important distinction.
  15. Perfect. I think Writer's Block my be just about vanquished in this fight. Voidus, can I buy an Epic off you?
  16. Sweet. By which I mean "poor students." Would those Warriors have said anything if captured by police? Or would they have been too intent on gunning down their fellow students for police to judge taking them alive worth the risk? Were there any RP characters who received their powers early enough to make headlines in September 2014 (working off the assumption that Steelheart took power in September 2015)?
  17. How many Warriors did he have? The flashback seemed to indicate at least a dozen; were there more or less? In that case, and in that social climate, it would probably make sense for authorities to tell the public he was presumed dead so as not to cause mass panic, but carry on their search just in case he was a resurrection Epic. I'd imagine there would probably be at least a few rumors circulating among students as they waited for the school to reopen; and when it did, I'd imagine classes would be much smaller as some students chose to go home to their families.... Sorry. Thinking out loud. I am both apprehensive and intrigued to see fists of fire.
  18. Cool. I'm not terribly familiar with California colleges, either, having gone to school primarily in the Northwest, but I was planning on referencing it later through a news story, so they'd definitely name it. So there was a long enough delay between his death and resurrection for Subbly and others to assume the worst, or else enough chaos for Lightwards to escape after his resurrection? What are the chances of Subbly witnessing something that would lead to his being assumed at large?
  19. One vote in favor, then. Early enough for it to make it on the news, then; I'd imagine something like that would still be alarming enough to be reported by national media outlets. He was still at large after that attack, wasn't he? And did you name his school, or was that left open?
  20. General question: I'm considering pinning the Epics of Oregon thread. Thoughts? Second question: Kobold, Lightwards was one of the early Epics, correct? How long before or after Annexation was the approximate date of his attack on his university?
  21. "I have a very specific type of allergy. They only go away when the thing causing them drops off the face of the earth. So....the best thing I can do right now is just hide in my fallout shelter." It wouldn't be a reference to a film/graphic novel about a young man named Scott taking on a planet, would it?
  22. The next day.... Autumn: I'm sorry, but I can't go out with you today. My allergies are acting up. Shiny Sparkle: What are you allergic to? Autumn: All of your exes. Shiny Sparkle dated the world? All at once?
  23. Never has a single sentence filled me with so much NOPE.
  24. I just realized. If Shiny Sparkle is now the one with the League of Evil Exes, does that mean Obliteration might be a part of it?
  25. I heard a true story I think you'll all enjoy. A 9th century Viking called Hastein wanted to pillage Rome, but was unable to scale the walls. So he showed up on a stretcher, had his men tell the city officials he wanted to convert to Christianity before he died, and managed to smuggle 50 armed men inside for the funeral. To no one's surprise, Hastein leaped from his coffin and joined his men in pillaging the city. When the destruction was complete, Hastein learned that the city they had invaded was called Luna. They were 250 miles from Rome.
