  1. I think if they still abide by the rule, they would tike it quite literally: Human is Human, but parshmen aren't human. Spren aren't human either, obviously. (which takes me to the question, would Kandra attract spren? we know parshendi don't. Have we seen worldhoppers attract spren on Roshar?) If they don't have to follow the rule anymore, there is nothing impeding it. But if they do follow it by princples or just out of habit, they might extend the no killing to all "humanoid" species. Maybe? In any case this would be a case by case issue...
  2. It might not apply anymore. It might not be a rule now, but they followed that code for a thousand years. I bet it's quinda hard to break a habit that's buried that deep. But as I said, it could be nothing Edit: Buried, not burned. What was I thinking?
  3. Thank you both Hum, the fact that Koloss became a species as opposed to some construct thingies really helps it. Why keep 'em at all? Only Harmony knows... meh. The coming of age thing with the spikes I didn't know either. But I don't think that that explains everything... I seem to remember - and I could be mistaken - that at some point Wax talks about Koloss ancestors, which would mean crossbreeding at some point in the past. Could a Koloss youngling breed at all with a human? He's not mature enough to have the spikes, is he mature enough to procreate? And if we're talking about a full Koloss crossbreeding with humans, I still have the same size and proportion issues as before, even if they are now more mentally sane. 12 feet tall humanoids against normal humans, that bolt will not fit in that screw... As for the Kandra things, your answer has pretty much anything I needed to know, and then some Thank you +1 to both of you for being so helpfull and easing my mind.
  4. Hum... This makes me think of Rock. He refuses to fight due to his culture... but that would be a great coincidence for a Kandra. They wouldn't have to give fake excuses about no fighting... Also Rock can see the Spren even when they don't want to. Then again, this is explained as something somewhat common in Horneater's culture... But if he was a Kandra, he would be quite Invested, and as we've seen, Kaladin became able to see all of them when he became Invested, too. Also a worldhopper Kandra would/could be familiar with Galladon, and possibly would have caught up some of Galladon's mannerisms... Which I dunno why but Rock always remember me of Galladon, like calling people "airsick lowlanders" instead of "crazy/kayenna". And no it's not 'cause their skin color. But anyway... This could be nothing, and most probably is nothing... But I suppose it deserved at least pointing it up.
  5. THIS POST IS FULL SPOILERS Hey there fellow Sharders, I bring a fairly simple topic today, not crazy theorycrafting, no bizzare "what-if"s... Just a pair of little questions that bug my mind. They both have to do with the "Ruin/Hemalurgic-Species", Koloss and Kandra, but each in a different way. Question the first! How the **** are there Koloss halfbreeds in AoL? I mean, yeah, they were humanoid... 12 foot tall humanoid beings that could only be bored or enraged, none of which is very propense to sexual attraction by the way, AND, they couldn't really procreate. They were MADE, not born, and they were kinda undead... They were nothing else than a dead body with 4 hemalurgic spikes. Setting aside physical impossibilities, what human female could have survived an "intimate" encounter with a Koloss? And what's more important, what human female would have wanted an intimante encounter with a Koloss? It just blows my mind. One could argue that Koloss are like the "orcs" in fantasy, and noone questions the existance of halforcs... But to me Koloss are more like Ogres in size... with chicken-sized brains, the temperament of a dog with rabies, and they are pretty much undead... They have more in common with Warcraft Abominations than nothing else... I just CAN'T comprehend the crossbreeding here. If someone has a good explanation about this and can share it, I will be most thankfull and cover you in virtual hugs. Question the second! Aren't all the Kandra just Mistwraiths by the end of TFA? The question background is this: I finally convinced a good friend to give the books a try, and he devoured the four Mistborn novels in a weekend... Well, he told me that two known Kandra appear and interact with Wax. It's been a while since I read AoL, and sincerely I don't remember it all that well but I trust him when he says so. The thing is... How? Didn't all Kandra commit to the First Contract and give up theyr Blessings? Even if they somehow used the left blessings to make new Kandra... wouldn't they be NEW KANDRA? not old ones? I don't totally comprehend the act of giving "sentience" to a Mistwraith... But I don't think they could become "sentientless" and then return to their own selves... If that was the key they would strip any prisoner Kandra of his blessings and give'em later when they are freed... Well, thank you all for your attention, and future responses *I added the Spoiler Alert at top, I dunno if it's really necessary nowadays, but better safe than sorry, I'd hate to Ruin someone's experience. (See what I did there? )
  6. Sorry for necromancing this a second time but... Weight is important in allomancy, that's clear. Explained a thousand times. Push something lighter than you, it moves. Push something heavier, you move. And then in the in betweens both move. ¿But how exactly weight interacts with the strength of the push? I think that your mass doesn't make you stronger or weaker, but you can apparently seem so. For example, let's put two guys with the same strength: they both can lift a 400lb object at max, but one weighs 100 and the other 200. When lifting other things their mass is irrelevant... but when they do push-ups (lift themselves) it's when the difference is noted. The lighter guy will need half the strength to push himself up. At the end of a 10 push-ups set, the heavyer guy will be more tired than the lighter one, and he would seem weaker because of that. Another example doing the opposite thing: If you have a see-saw, and on one side you put a box that weighs 50lb, both guys will be able to push on their end and lift it. But if the box where exactly 100lb, the lighter guy would only be able to lift it halfway and he would lift himself up by doing so, while the other one would still be able to completely lift the box. If the box weighed more than 100, the lighter guy wouldn't be able to lift it at all UNLESS, he anchored himself by (for example) putting his feet on the ceiling and pushing from there. That's why, I think, Wax increases his weight to do these dramatic pushes, because weighing more means he can use a bigger percentage of his strength without lifting himself, because the "action-reaction" force applied by his targets would not be enough to compensate gravity's pull. Also, Elend can push the Inquisitor away so easily because he caught him off-guard. He's stronger than it looks, and the Inquisitor didn't brace himself enough to compensate this push, while Elend knew exacly his own strength and braced himself (anchored) accordingly, connecting his mass to that of the earth and transmitting the acceleration there, where it's negligible. In that case, individual weight didn't have anything to do with the result. P.D.: English is not my native language and though I tried to correct any mistakes and typos, there maybe a lot in here yet, so... I'm sorry. If you find some that are particularly offensive please do tell and I'll correct them.
  7. I'm not really good at physics - I was at highschool, but then i did choose arts at Uni and forgot everything - but I'll try to convey my opinion on this the best way. Initially I liked digitalbusker's idea/theory a lot, it did explain so much in the correct way, but there's at least one thing I can't explain with this method: Staying up in the air while pushing some random metal down below. If you are inputting kinetic energy (movement) how do you explain reaching an equilibrium like this? A position with no movement. I guess you can somehow convert the kinetic energy into potential energy while keeping the total mechanical energy untouched. I just don't see how.
  8. Thank you Moogle Though I have to say that I know almost nothing about the Skybreakers, that's a jigzaw I didn't really complete while reading... no more than acknowledging Shallan's brother as a member of them, and their name. ¿And you say their leader is Darkness? I dunno where that info comes from... But I don't doubt it. I'll have to investigate a little more. I don't especifically support or deny Darkness theory about the Radiants and the Desolations, but he obviously acts accordingly to his own theory. Flawed or not.
  9. First of all, Hi! I’m new to posting, though I have been reading for a few days. Secondly… English is not my primary language and though I have no problems reading or listening it, I find myself lacking words and vocabulary when I talk/write. So if I repeat the same word or idiom over and over again… sorry. Bear with me please. I’ll improve over time. Also, this whole post should be in SPOILER brackets, but since the thread is already sooooooo much spoilerish, I won’t tag it. Correct me if I’m wrong by not doing so Here we go: I think that the nature of Heralds isn’t properly known yet, but it’s safe to assume that Darkness is indeed Nin the Herald, if only just because Szeth says so. I believe in Szeth’s words, his actions after he met Kaladin the first time where crazy-like because he was on “denial”. So much of the pain that he had inflicted (on others and on himself) depended on Kaladin not being a Radiant. In the Darkness-is-Nin case, though, this phase is already behind. He acknowledged that the KR where back, and so he let himself be slayed. He is past any “denial” at this point and in any case it wouldn’t have anything to do with Darkness being or not being Nin. We can trust his words on that. But, yeah, that’s flimsy. He could be mistaken even if he is not lying on purpose. My “theory” (dunno if it’s really mine, maybe someone else already wrote about this, in which case he/she deserves all the gloryspren) on him being a Herald is more attuned to his behavior than anything else. Bear with me while I explain this from the base: There are ten heralds, and ten orders of KR. Members of each order had different behaviors that attracted some spren with whom they form a bond. That is known. Syl also tells Kaladin at some point that Shardblades and the Radiant Knights are a “copy” of what Honor did with the Heralds and the Honorblades, but on a smaller scale. Then, if Radiant Knights where “mini-Heralds”, and their personality traits are that strong, we can extrapolate that the Heralds’ personalities are on the peak of what every order represents… An exaggerated personal trait. Like Darkness exaggerated law respect: He had an important mission, he believes that the knights might bring the Desolation, but he still lets Lift live because killing her would be against the law, and slaps his apprentice for killing the other kid while not having the proper forms for it. He PRAISES Szeth for following his law even when ignoring it would have been the Right thing to do. There is one point in a conversation between Kaladin and Syl, where he points that Syl wouldn’t want him to break the law, and she answers something like: “What do you think I am, Highspren?” (Don’t have the exact quote, sorry) So… my point is: Darkness is Nin and I base it on Szeth’s words and his extremely Lawful Neutral behavior. On another point… Don’t you think that if Szeth where to be some time without an Honorblade (from Roshan or anywhere) would attract at some point a Highspren of his own? Become a Radiant Knight. That’s MAYBE why Darkness gives him Nightblood. He needs people that thinks like him to help him, but that kind of people is bound to attract Highspren and become Radiants… and he doesn’t want any Radiants whatsoever… so maybe handing him Nighblood grants him an ally with power, but incapable somehow of being a full radiant?
