Dalinar and Taravangian jail discussion

Something has been bugging me since I read the scene between Dalinar and Taravangian in the jail/house. When Taravangian reveals he saw a way to save his people but only a very small chance to save everyone, why didn't Dalinar ask him for the details of the small chance scenario? Maybe he rightfully thinks Taravangian would just lie to him but although I can't find it right now I'm pretty sure Dalinar said earlier in this book to take all information even if you know it's wrong. So why didn't Dalinar ask?

It seems like the "small chance" scenario was fight the war and win, which is what Dalinar is trying to do.
