garlick Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Will bond smiths all have the same oaths? Are they all about uniting? Other kr spren are similar. Pattern and syl are all a race of spren and have similar oaths or truths in patterns case. But the nightwatcher sibling and stormfather are nothing alike. I feel the sibling belongs to the bondsmith that always stayed in urithuru to be a "battery" to power it. The nightwatcher I have no idea on. I dont know how much they could differ if they do at all. Mostly a question i thought of and figured I'd toss it out to smarter people then me. 1
Gilphon Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I'd strongly suspect that the Bondsmiths all have similar Oaths- like the wording varies from person to person, like every other Order, but the concepts remain the same. Their spren may be very different from each other, but they're still granting access to the same two surges, and the name 'Bondsmith' implies the focus on uniting was there for all three spren.

They are a natural outgrowth of the spren, but the spren are a natural outgrowth of human's perception of natural forces, but the spren are sentient, so I would say it's a little more by instinct than not. For example two Knights Radiant in the same Order might speak the words differently, but the concept is the same. You will see this happen in a future book, where a Windrunner will speak the oaths. It's a slightly different take on the same concept. Some are moreso, like Shallan's oaths are very individualized truths, so. OdysseyCon 2016 (April 8, 2016) I find it very hard to believe that such unique spren all have a fundamentally identical nature.

I can see it falling out one of several ways: They all have the same basic Oaths like most orders, because being the Bondsmith God-Spren has implications on Purpose even if they are themselves wildly different They have wildly different/personal/unique Oaths, as different as the Three themselves They only appear different but are part of a Set. My guess being that the Stormfather is the Physical Aspect focused on the physical storm, the Nightwatcher is the Spiritual Aspect focused on understanding/Manipulating Spiritwebs, and by default the Sibling would somehow be a Cognitive-focused entity. Something in the middle, where their Ideals do have some common theme but are still more varied/personalized than typical, perhaps approaching the same concern-problem from wildly different perspectives. Something more like the Truthwatchers or Skybreakers, but with the variance coming from the spren's differences rather than the Human partner.
