The Wyr serpent perished quickly, all life snuffed out. He entered the cognitive realm angrily. He hadn't gotten to kill. He had wanted to kill. HE swam throught he pools of thoughts. He stayed until he was pulled, and he left angrily. I should have had my revenge...

~~~
The Yeti shouted angrily. Someone had snuffed out one of the Wyr Serpents. He considered whether to go after it. It wasn't the biggest loss. It would take time better spent destroying. Finally, the thing that made up his mind was that he had finished this neighborhood. It lay in frozen ruins, walls broken down and frozen corpses littering equally frosty streets. Some corpses were slashed, others were bitten. A series of buildings was replaced by giants tufts of ice, a small glacier. Yes, it made up his mind. He sprinted, and the guttural howls of Koloss followed him.
~~~

Shifting Shadows smiled as he cut. He hated the twisted ones with a passion, and he loved causing them pain. Pain, pain, pain. He loved causing them pain. An evil glimmer was in him as he caused them pain. Guttural howls of Koloss followed him. He had discovered something, and he told the wolf. His pack was there. "Wolf creature. These are led by the Yeti. The Yeti followed someone else, or possibly something else. I do not know." He smiled. "I'd like to introduce you to my pack."

Wereci smiled as the wolf, which was now a leopard, awkwardly backed away from the pack of wolves and Shifting Shadows. "Oh, c'mon," Wereci called to it, striding over, "at least remember your manners. What would Triavv think?"

The wolf-which-was-now-a-panther whirled to face Wereci, its face enraged. Wereci could practically hear its thoughts: How dare you mention her! How DARE you! Wereci could tell that the panther was about ready to spring at him, but reminding it of Triavv also reminded it that treating people well impressed her. He's going to need to get over her sometime soon, Wereci thought tiredly. Else, all she'll be is blackmail material for Ashkiel to use against him. If Ashkiel ever wakes up. The event seemed imminent at this point, but Wereci couldn't help feeling that it would never happen; Ashkiel had been asleep for almost seven thousand years.

Shifting Shadows seemed to take pleasure from killing these 'Koloss'. Some soldiers thought that hiding their emotions with more emotions made them better warriors, but it didn't. You had to keep cool, in control, during a battle, though maybe a touch of care for your soldiers would keep you focused. Men like Shifty lost their skill and control when they allowed it to slip away and disguised it with passion like Shifty was. Wereci himself hadn't ever tried to let passion take over; for one thing, he'd been fighting the way he did since he was twelve, and it was difficult to teach an old dog new tricks (Dusk would've tried to take a swing at Wereci if he'd said that to Dusk). Anyway, having clarity during battle let you think about what you were doing. You had to remember that the lives you were taking were real ones, with real consequences.

Or maybe I've just been fighting Zosans too long.

Koloss didn't have families, or friends, or lives beyond wanting to kill things. So perhaps Shifty's loss of control was only a detriment for his skill.

Wereci displayed signs of deference to Shifty's pack, pressing his ears down against his skull. They started to get nervous about that; Wereci was the alpha male of his own squad, after all. Then, realizing that the wolves probably wouldn't be offended, he stood up straight and flicked his ears forward alertly, letting his tongue hang out and showing his inuhmanly large canines and incisors. He was a Tesan, and he was proud of it.

Wasn't sure who you were referring to when you said the comment about they started to get nervous, but if you were referring to my pack, please don't in the future.

Shifty smiled at the wolf, at it's fear. "It's just a few wolves. Can't you handle that? Are you a baby?" Then he turned his attention towards Wereci. He had wolf features, and human ones. He was quite odd. Maybe I could add him to the dream-world as well. He grinned as his pack came up behind them, around them. It had grown considerably, to fifteen wolves. And three cubs, which pleased him. The pack was strong. They came in close to Wereci and the strange-wolf. Then the alpha padded forwards, watching them carefully with her golden-yellow eyes. She had sleek black fur, and was large for a wolf. Maybe three feet long. Not the biggest wolf, but still very large. She reached the strange-wolf, and touched it's muzzle with hers, a sign of respect.

The wolf stiffened, and Wereci grinned. Then, the Tesan answered Shifty's questions for the wolf. "Nope, and yes. Poor thing is far too used to being by itself." He howled a short hello to the alpha female respectfully, wishing he had a tail to wag at her. But, unfortunately, he was still human. His ears flicked back.

Tesan ears look sort of like a drow's ears from DnD, maybe bigger.

Shifty smiled, watching. "Oh no, does the poor baby need his diapers changed?" The alpha continued showing signs of respect. Suddenly, she jumped forwards, slamming his muzzle into the ground, and howled. The entire pack howled, shifty included. A crackle passed between them, and the air glowed slightly. The alpha jumped back quickly, to the pack. Shifty smiled, coming forward calmingly. They had connected it to wolf-speak. It could speak back with it's mind now. Calm-sense, lie-down, help, lick-wounds. Cub-play. He turned to Wereci. "We could give you the power as well."

To translate, he's saying they won't hurt him, he's fine, etc. Then, as an afterthought, he called him a baby,

The wolf disappeared, its eyes wide enough to show whites on all sides. "Oh, you've scared it off again," Wereci said. "Now I won't see it for at least another three months. Thanks." He rubbed at the scars on his face with the back of his arm for a moment, then looked at Shifty and thought about it. "Eh, sure. Don't have any ^&#(ing thing else to do at this point. Hey, Varath," he called to the Winged standing awkwardly a few paces away, "I recommend you fly away before they try to turn you into a wolf too. I doubt you'd be any good at it."

Then, a huge, snarling dog appeared in front of Wereci, growling at the wolves and Shifty. Wereci's eyes widened. "Scruff?" he asked in a voice that was quiet, disbelieving. The dog turned around to him, and her snarl disappeared, tongue lolling out of her mouth. He fell onto his knees and scratched behind her ears with one hand, Scruff obligingly moving into the right position at his thought.

"Hey," Wereci said to Shifty. "I think I'd rather just have my link with her. You... oh, nevermind. Viv, we have to fight." She knew that from his thoughts, but obviously hearing him say it aloud confirmed it for her.

Shifty smiled. He wasn't as important, so he let it go. He communicated to the alpha, making his body structure as differential as possible. Fight-stalk, big-thing, hunt? The wolf nodded, and he grinned. He slammed his hand into the wall, tapping and drawing in a bit of stormlight. Stairs came out, onto the roof. On top, he soulcast a tall metal pole, then a second, then a third, and had them connect at the top. Still tapping, he made handholds as he climbed. He had enough power he didn't even need to convince the souls. He was at the top, and he could see for maybe a mile around, his improved eyes making all of it detailed and intricate.

So he got a prime view as the Yeti crashed into the wolf-man and his friend.

Wereci tapped Scruff on the shoulder lightly, then began twitching his hand, the fingers moving faster and faster as he powered his bond to Scruff with kinetic energy. The Yeti seemed to freeze in place a few feet from Wereci, and Wereci strolled over to it and formed Vengeance in his hand, stabbing the spear into the Yeti’s eyes and then its brain. He drew out his sword and casually stabbed it into the other eye, then brought both weapons out, watching as blood slowly welled out of the Yeti’s eye. Wereci walked back to Scruff, severing his bond with her and diving to the side, her actions mirroring his perfectly.

The Yeti crashed face-first into the roof, blood pouring out of its face and surrounding its head, like a halo around the fur on the roof.

But Wereci can basically control time. So yeah. And Scruff is awesome. So yeah.

If that’s not up to your satisfaction, I can always squish everything with a sea-mirin. Kidding.

Wereci rolled out of the way of the Yeti further, cursing loudly in languages nobody there except Scruff understood. She pressed her ears down at the profanity, and Wereci stopped after seeing her discomfort. “Look,” he said to Shifty, it’s been real, and it’s been fun. But it hasn’t been real fun. Bye!” He waved, spoke into an intracom on his ear, then he, Scruff, and the Winged disappeared.

Peace, Ark. If you ever get back on.
