I considered the options in order of descending coolness and increasing plausibility: missile, grenade, firearm, crossbow, ... But that is exactly how Shallan killed Tyn. At least, I read that scene as Pattern appearing halfway through Tyn's chest. (Which, incidentally, contributes to my confusion about the Adolin/Sadeas scuffle at the end of the book. Brandon's explanation is that neither of them summoned their blades because shardblades aren't useful in a close-quarters fight. Well, if your hand is pointed the right direction, the appearing blade can kill your opponent immediately.) Yes, but for the most part we've only seen dead blades. There is reason to suspect the live blades have additional abilities. At the same time, though, I think hoser is correct: I think the reason that Shallan was able to manifest the blade into Tyn's body is because Shallan was physically touching the blade as it manifested, whereas trying to get the blade to manifest somewhere else had not been demonstrated for us yet in the books. I could see Jasnah maybe being able to, having the transportation surge, but otherwise, as having been stated, they spren need help manifesting in a physical form. I also think that the fact they are in physical form is why they can't manipulate themselves. Let's imagine that the spren have the same strength in physical form as they do in spren form. WIth this logic, there's no way the spren could get themselves to twitch, let along fly through the air and attack. Syl had trouble lifting a few leaves to bring to Kaladin. Pattern seems to be able to interact with the physical world more adeptly in his handling of locks, but that is most likely linked to his inability to hide in the physical realm, along with his abilities to assist in soulcasting. Even Wyndle, who seems to have more of an affect on physical objects than Syl would as per their surges, can't even roll a biscuit (resisted saying roll a roll...until now.) They might have the capacity to move when in physical form, but they just lack the strength.

Mist twisted and writhed in her hands as a brilliantly silver blade formed there, spearing Tyn through the chest I can see how it makes sense to read that procedurally, but I took that as being at the exact same time. It would seem almost like forming it in Tyn's body, but was in fact still being summoned. Also, I'm kinda hoping Knights Radiant cannot throw their sprenblades. I'd like that to be something completely unique to dead spren.

I'd like that to be something completely unique to dead spren. But we basically know that they can, because Shallan is able to give Kaladin her blade, and it does not disappear when he drops it. If you can drop it, then you can surely throw it– the only difference is prior momentum. 4
Pathfinder Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I wonder how a sprenblade would interact with a person if the radiant chose to form it as a warhammer? The hilt is rounded and able to be grabbed, as well as i forgot the spot but i THINK there was a spot or two where someone was knocked unconscious with the hilt. So if the blade was turned into a blunt object ala warhammer or some types of maces, would it still phase through organic matter or connect physically?
