TrдVψLшR 0115 he/him Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 This will contain many spoilers. Spoiler I was trying to think of all the times that we have seen red eyes. I’m trying to see if I can find patterns, and possibly come up with some insights. I’ve been a Sanderson fan for a long time so there are books I’ve read but do not remember in detail. I can think of the set from Mistborn, the fused from Stormlight, and the shades from Threnody. What I really want to know is if the svrakis from Elantris were ever seen on screen, and if so did they have red eyes? I have heard a lot of people say it is an indication of coopted investiture. I don’t know where the basis for that comes from. If that is the case my assumption would be that what we’re seeing is a cognitive shadow being controlled by another force like a shard or something. Which would be awesome! Here’s my other question. Spoiler Where does the power for abilities on Scradrial come from? Because I have read a couple of wobs now that have said the power doesn’t actually come from the metal. The metal acts as a “key” or a “password”. This seems like a distinct difference from the gems in Stormlight, of which Brandon said this: Questioner Does metal on Scadrial hold Investiture the same way gems do on Roshar? Brandon Sanderson No But maybe I’m reading too much into this I’d love some thoughts on this
RShara she/her Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) For the metals, the power comes from Preservation. Allomancy is Preservation's power, the metals are the key that lets the power enter the Physical realm and be used. For the red eyes, here are a few WoBs on the matter: Glys, Renarin's spren, is also red, instead of clear. It's not just eyes that turn red. Quote Steeldancer [PENDING REVIEW] On Threnody, the Shades, their eyes turn red when they get really mad. Is that the same thing as with the Voidbringers and all the other ones? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] I have a subtheme in the Cosmere of the redness and it's supposed to be intentional. Steeldancer [PENDING REVIEW] So it is the same thing? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] It's the same theme. But I do not mean to imply that it's the same Shard. Steeldancer [PENDING REVIEW] But it's the same effect? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes. I'm doing it intentionally. Red eyes specifically are meant to mean something but I use it a few other ways [the same way?]. source Quote Lirins hand Are all the red-eyed characters influenced by the same Shard? Brandon Sanderson No. Good question! I was waiting for someone to ask that. You will come to learn what red means in the Cosmere. There is a meaning for red in the Cosmere. Footnote: see thissource Quote FirstSelector [PENDING REVIEW] Does red in cosmere signify one Shard co-opting or corrupting another Shard's magic? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes. source Edited October 8, 2018 by RShara

I think I am here. he/him Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Though the red-Investiture question has been answered, I think I’ll add some more detail to the metals and stormlight. Imagine Allomantic metals as a portal. When an Allomancer burns the metal, they effectively open the portal, or gateway, or password or key or focus or whatever. This portal lets in Investiture from the Spiritual Realm into the Allomancer. The ‘portal’ in the metals is basically they’re molecular structure. This is also how Metals are different from stormlight and gems. Stormlight is pure Investiture, very different from a portal that lets Investiture in. Gems, on the other hand, are stores of Investiture. Metals aren’t like this. They don’t store anything (unless you’re talking about Feruchemy). They’re just gateways to Investiture. Hope this helps. 1

It does! Thanks that’s sorta what I was thinking but I wanted some clarification 23 hours ago, Ripheus23 said: They're being controlled by the Shard of Weed.
