Hemalugic Spikes and Shardic Influence

Question

Posted

Are people who are spiked open to any kind of shardic influence, or only to the vessel with Ruins investiture?  Or does it depend on the number of spikes?  Could odium not take control of a Kandra on Braize but maybe take control of Marsh?  I don’t remember if there have been any wobs about Bleeder being directly manipulated by Trell, or if she was just free from Harmony and was purely following her own perturbed motives.

The flaw in hemalurgy is designed to give anyone with power a means with which to enact control. It doesn't even have to be a Shard. Allomancers could control hemalurgic constructs with emotional Allomancy, and that is purely using Preservation's power.

The Voidspren that enable stormform have a similar hole inbuilt.

Can Odium influence people the same way that Ruin can?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Well, you see, the kandra and the koloss have a "hole" in them that allows Ruin to come in and take over. The Parshendi naturally are protected from this, but when they expose themselves to the storms, and the spren come in, many of these spren have that kind of "hole" in them, and that's what allows Odium to take control of them.

No, I'm talking about how Ruin was able to push people, place things in their minds, stuff like that. Can Odium do the same thing?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Well, Odium wasn't around when those people were created, so it's a little different for him than Ruin. So if he influences people in that way, it's through the Unmade.

So while Ruin may indeed have an upper hand when it comes to hemalurgy, anyone with a means to direct that power into a spiked individual should be able to take control.

I think that Ruin and Preservation's creation of humans had something to do with that. They were intrinsically connected to humans on Scadrial. I'm not actually sure about that  though

Hemalurgy open yourself to every kind of Influences both from Shards and other magic users.

Simply Ruin has some extra benefit as the source of the magic itself

i wonder if inquisitors would be especially susceptible to feurochemical connection...

Spoiler

especially after the allomancer jak story talking about his ysteward using F-duralumin on the koloss

also, we know that preservation and ruin had different abilities when it came to hemaluric creations or hemalurgically invested people.

i agree with @Yata that the shard ruin definitely has the upper hand, but ruin also cannot hear thoughts from inquisitors.

ruin could appear and talk to spiked individuals but could not read thoughts

preservation could hear the thoughts of spiked individuals but could not talk to them directly.

what might be some of the advantages/disadvantages that any other shards might have when it comes to hemalurgy?

Preservation hears the throughs of every Scadrian. Hemalurgy isn't a factor.

It's the whole "intent stops me from doing this" Preservation's nature stops him from exploits the Soul's cracks needed to inject thoughts in the target.
