Gasper he/him Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 What does Alethi sound like? We know that in-universe, the stormlight archive series is translated, but what does the language sound like? 1
Ishar Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I think the best way to find this would be to look at names. These are probably the closest thing to actual words in Alethi you will find. Especially because of how they pick names. 1
Llarimar he/him Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 One thing that I have noticed in many Alethi names is the digraph "kh" - it pops up a lot. "Kharbranth," "Kholin," the glyph "khakh." Normally when people write "kh," they mean the rasping sound at the back of the throat (the voiceless velar fricative, represented by the IPA symbol [x]). So I have come to assume that this is a sound that is common in the Alethi language. It's difficult to tell a ton about the language though, because people don't really speak in Alethi during the book. All we get are the names. 1
