Bean Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Is he trying to kill Odium? Trying to kill whatever shattered adonalsium? No. No he is not. His Purpose was finally revealed in WoR. We do know that Hoid has been running around collecting objects from various shardworlds. Many of the objects he picks up are pretty invested. What does he need them for? In Shallan's PoV with Mraize she sees a bunch of wierd items on the wall. Other curiosities baffled her. A vial of pale sand. A couple of thick hairpins. A lock of golden hair. the branch of a tree with writing on it she couldn't read. A silver knife. An odd flower preserved in some kind of solution. ... That chunk of pale pink crystal looked like it might be some kind of gemstone, but why was it so delicate? Bits of it had flaked off in its case, as if simply setting it down had almost crushed it. Hey look someone else with a bunch of stuff. I think this makes things pretty clear. Hoid is involved in a massive cosmere wide scavenger hunt and the winner gets a really spiffy ribbon. "But wait," you say, "isn't he in some kind of conflict against Odium?" Yes, and yes Hoid hates him. Wouldn't you hate the guy/person/being of ultimate hatred who put together a scavenger hunt that included lerasium? I mean there are only like 2 beads left (at the time) and he has to get one. Tricky stuff. The only real question is this: Who do you think is winning? 9
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hoid, for sure. But see, Nazh is going to be getting extra points for his pretty maps.Meanwhile Khriss is just laughing to herself, watching the results of the race unfold on her Cosmere-Twitter feed.(I couldn't think of a cool fusion word for Cosmere/Twitter that didn't sound like an insult. Twitmere? I think not.) 2
LordCitrus Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hoid's purpose is to make readers buy more of Sanderson's books. Hey look someone else with a bunch of stuff. Dump them all in a blender, and you have a smoothie of Adonalsium. 3
Bramble Thorn Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hoid's purpose is to make readers buy more of Sanderson's books. Dump them all in a blender, and you have a smoothie of Adonalsium. Actually, this has contrary to text in TWoK. What you mention is a recipe for Gibletish Juice 2
taveren he/him Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 well theres only a few options for what he wants he ether wants to put the shards back together kill certain shards and then put him back together without those or shatter all shards but that last one seems unlikely. going around collecting powers and items is just a means to an end. being the most powerful non shard he would be able to get anything else done easily
KasA97 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Imagine if Hoid manages to reforge Adonalsium. Mindblown.

kogs Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Yeah I'm inclined to think he's trying to put everything back together. Going on a hunt for the sake of a hunt doesn't seem all that fun or plausible.
AerionBFII he/him Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I think he travels to each world collecting pieces of each Cosmere worlds magic system slowly increasing his power. I think the main scheme is doing whatever he can to undermine Odium/Rayse and Bavadin. He has been around for a while since before the Shattering of Adonalsium he even knows the Shards first hand: Cultivation does not like Hoid - Stated by BS Tanavast/Honor once bought him drinks- "Tanavast was a fine enough fellow - bought me drinks once - but he was no god" - Words of radiance. Has beef with Rayse - "on the other hand, was among the most loathsome, crafty, and dangerous individuals I had ever met." - The Letter Has beef with Bavadin - "You have accused me of perpetuating my grudge against Rayse and Bavadin." - The Letter Thought well of Ati before being changed by Ruin - "Ati was once a kind and generous man, and you saw what became of him." - The Letter 2
happyman he/him Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Some of you managed to fail your "Sense Sarcasm" roll. In other news, I fully endorse the original theory and believe it with my whole heart. How could you not accept the obvious truth of such a statement is beyond me. Like the sun, it's truth shines through the so-called drama, realism, and epic magic, not to mention basic logic, and bathes us all in its inevitability. Also, Mraize is totally winning. No scavenger hunt can be considered complete until you have evidence, and where's Hoid's? Nowhere, that's where.
