Agreed. If any of this happens, with the company seeking profit over quality translation from book to screen, we’ll have a massive influx of new users on the Shard, thinking they know Cosmere and how the magic works. It’d be worse than having to correct ‘Reckoner’s is Cosmere’ assumptions. The Shard would be trashed.

I can see that, but some of these will learn the ways of the books :-) And suddenly we will have loads of new loveable members to discuss and theorize with. As long as everyone is nice to eachother, I doubt that movies will destroy the Shard.

Haven't read either KKC books but those involved don't really make me interested.

Personally if I had to choose a Cosmere story for a film I'd choose either The Final Empire or Warbreaker. Both of these could be considered cheap options because, outside of fights, Mistborn doesn't require anything involving computers and Warbreaker would only need computers for any non-practical usages of breath, to enhance the colors around Susebron, any shots depicting the city that can't be done on set and the smoke effects of Nightblood at the end.

But my preferred adaptation would be doing it as a tv show where each season is on a different planet like this:

Season 1- The Final Empire

Season 2- Well of Ascension

Season 3- Hero of Ages

Season 4- Elantris

Season 5- Short Stories

Season 6- The Way of Kings (if structured like GOT then I'd have episode 1 depict Kaladin's journey to the Plains, Episode 2 introduce Shallan, etc along with an episode adapting the Interludes)

I could see the opening showing the star map of the Cosmere from AU and zooming towards the planet for that episode while a voice explains some stuff without giving away the stories shown.

So, I am too lazy to read the entirety of what has been posted from this thread, but just of the original post, I personally thought Kingkiller Chronicles were the only books I have read that can compare to those of Brandon Sanderson ever. I really enjoyed them. Personally, I do think that the Cosmere has better books, but looking at it from a critical view, I am not sure I would want to see a Cosmere movie. It would be almost impossible to capture everything in any of the Cosmere books in a movie. Kingkiller lends itself to being adapted into a film much more. As Cosmere Films go, I think an interesting thing that could be done would be an Allomancer Jak TV show.

I get Austin Powers vibes from the (unfortunately) small amount of Allomancer Jak we have seen.

As Brandon has said, KKC being successful improves the chances of a successful Cosmere adaptation. I could see high fantasy becoming a mainstream genre similar to the rise of zombie and vampire films followed by super hero films. As CGI technology improves the cost of quality special effects decreases so the cost of adequate special effects might not be as insurmountable as it is being made out to be. In fact, it is probably better in the long term that Cosmere adaptations have not been produced especially given the unfinished Stormlight magnum opus.

A Cosmere adaptation would fill the void (laughs in Moash) left after the MCU wraps up and producers know that an adapted work with a large following has a high floor and even higher ceiling as an investment. It wouldn't surprise me if DMG were willing to throw a lot of money at this project.

Looking at the production of Game of Thrones serves as an indicator for what kind of timeline we might be looking at.

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Production_timeline

DMG purchased the rights to the Cosmere in October 2016 so just spitballing we are probably looking at ~2021/2022 before anything is adapted. In the meantime we can hope that KKC sees success and that it leaves people craving more high fantasy. I myself discovered Brandon's work after my post Wheel of Time hangover and I definitely feel like Brandon will be getting more attention in the near future. If Dark One is well received it might accelerate the adaptation of the Cosmere.

TLDR: KKC adaptation is good news. Production is slow so patience is key. High fantasy will be the new Hollywood cash cow, mark my words in metal.

This line alone makes that post worthy of upvoting.
