Leyrann Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) So, yeah, no idea what to make of it, but reading through the recent WoBs I saw this one which I thought pretty interesting and which no one talked about: Quote Kapin [PENDING REVIEW] I have a question about the Shin. Are they originally from Roshar? *laughter* Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Answers are coming. Kapin [PENDING REVIEW] Is there significance in the metal thing relating back to... Scadrial? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes. Apparently, there is a connection between the Shin and Scadrial. Of course, we already knew the Shin were different from the rest of the 'Rosharan' humans due to their different physical characterestics. This WoB seems to imply that the Shin are originally from Scadrial, which makes me very curious about the timing. We know that Stormlight Archive and MB2 play at about the same time, which logically means that the Shin have to have left Scadrial before the Lord Ruler - the Lord Ruler came about 1300 years before MB2, while Roshar's history puts the Recreance at about 2000 years ago, yet does not mention anything regarding the arrival of the Shin or something like that (they even have stories about the Desolations that ended 4500 years ago). Either way, though, is it safe to say that the Shin and the normal 'Rosharan' humans may not even originally be from the same planet? I've seen people theorize that there may have been multiple waves of human immigration on Roshar, and this seems to support that theory. Maybe the 'Rosharan' humans are originally from the previously proposed Ashyn, which would be the Tranquiline Halls, while the Shin humans (as well as maybe the Horneater and Herdazian ancestors?) are from Scadrial in a distant past? (I hope no one made a post about this WoB so far, but I can't remember any...) Edited December 9, 2017 by Ookla the Leyspren
SpeakoftheDeval Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 One other thing about the Shin- their language is in the dawnate family tree, meaning it's derived from the dawnchant. I'd potentially say that the Shin were the first group of humans to come to Roshar and they peacefully interacted with the dawnsingers for long enough for their languages to become similar and then the surgebinding humans came from Ashyn with Odium. Evidence against this would be the Eila steles apparent surprise that the voidbinders have no shell and hear no song
