Brandon: (sighs) I considered that and I eventually decided that they could, but it would be an excruciating process that would probably knock them unconscious simply by doing it. Source This quote seems to indicate that as long as the metal is at least partially in their body allomancers can burn it. Depending on where the metal was it wouldn't be very enjoyable though.
