Was he the prince or whatever who only slept with men but fought like crazy jumping through the air? Then he ends up chasing Hellian around I think?

The marines in Bonehunters and Reaper's Gale and then onward are some of my favorite characters from any source.

YES, that's him. And I agree completely. Even if I always want more of any given character's story, I love how Erikson at least gives you a glimpse into their pasts and internal contemplations.

But really. Skulldeath and that entire squad are the best thing.

"I am the Queen of Kartool!" or something to that effect in a tavern one night I think is what had Skulldeath on her heels iirc.

I can't wait to get back to Bonehunters. Still on HoC cause I've been doing a LoTR re-read. Boy, is that tougher than I thought it would be. Last read it sometime around 99-00' and I'm not sure how I understood it at 12 years old. I should be much past where I am but I keep flipping to appendices at the back.

Crimson is kinda hard to follow. I can see why i never bothered to pick it back up straight away after my attempts. The descriptions in this book are really lacking imo.

still going to finish this time.

I was just thinking about how I hadn't heard anything from this thread in a while. I'm taking a break from Malazan to tackle some other things on my reading list.

I keep eyeing Toll the Hounds, though. I'm tempted to jump back in.

I'm in the middle of Deadhouse Landing and it's awesome.  I thought Dancer's Lament was alright but I didn't really get into it as much as most people did.  But the sequel...I wish I didn't have to work so much so I can go home and read it.  I love seeing familiar faces pop up.

That seems to be your theme song ;)

Yep. It’s what happens when I read multiple books. Though with Crimson I can see why I was never in a rush to pick it back up on my other 2 attempts at it. I don’t really like it I think. Gonna be a very slow completion but I will finish it this 3rd time for sure.

Thanks. This took almost a half a year to schedule and then maybe a month or so to finalize and release but we are hoping to move forward with a second episode with ICE, then another with the duo together, and then come what may.

House of Chains spoilers

Spoiler

Anybody else catch that all the Andii on Drift Avalii are grandchildren of Anomander?

Did anybody else then catch that Pearl is 1/4 Tiste Andii? And that his mother was a white haired halfbreed from Drift Avalii?

Corabb's insane run of the Lady's pull is awesome. I forgot just how lucky he is.

Update: Midnight Tides!

Sometimes, I see people post about war and airstrikes and imperialism, and I think to myself: "If these folks had read Malazan Book of the Fallen, maybe their opinion would not be so stupid."

I HAD LITERALLY THE SAME THOUGHT.

Friend of mine shared this article, if you're interested, which has (in my opinion) some poignant content. It's what brought Malazan to my mind in the first place.

Currently starting Bonehunters. I always start to root for someone as good guy but then in next chapter you can see it from the other side and bad guy became a good guy. It show that life is not easy and nothing is black and white. And I love it.

But I admit that first few chapters of Midnight Tides were tough to read.

Indeed! They are quite grim until you start getting more Tehol and Bugg in the mix more often.

Speaking of grim, I just started Forge of Darkness last night. Interesting so far, and I'm sure my confusion on exactly what the heck race these people are will clear up eventually... I hope.

It does clear up. I don't believe it is a spoiler to say they are just Tiste at this point...no Andii, Edur or Liosan. If you can't remember I would refresh your memory of what exactly the Azathanai are...I think it was touched upon in the main series, but it is more clear here.

I actually thought Forge was decent, but Fall of Light was pure navel-gazing. I am interested on your take on the two books whatever they will be.

I started picking up on that another hour or so into the audiobook. And I do indeed remember who/what the Azathenai are!

So far it's early to make judgments on much, though it is quite interesting so far. I can dig navel gazing when done well, but I've got more than 20 hours left forge so it'll be a few days before I move on. ;)

Who are they? the Azathanai?

There are several mysterious almost godlike creatures, like Caladan Brood, Draconus etc in the series that are Azathanai. The came from the Vitr sea that transports them from...other locations. You get a little more information about the Vitr in Orb, Sceptre, Throne by Esslemont.

I'm pretty sure the term Azathanai was never mentioned until Forge of Darkness.  But since then ICE has used the term in his books.  I don't know what the relationship is between Azathanai or Azath though, if that's even been revealed.

You're probably right..the entire series between the two authors starts to blur together at times. The Azath does span multiple worlds/universes (I believe that we found this out way back in Deadhouse Gates when they enter into a Azath House); I personally believe that the Azathanai came from these other worlds/universes via the Vitr. I have never heard other fans comment on this though so if anyone has heard differently let me know.
