@Briar King Thanks and Darn! Lol, finished crying over MoI and started HoC. Couldn't quite remember where it was placed, and I was hoping it was HoC. I'm excited to "Witness" Karsa's origin story from a pov of not immediately hating his guts. Really really great writing the way Erikson turned him around and his growth as a character.

What’s really weird is rereading DHG knowing it’s him. HoC is much better on the reread though. Still love those Liosan

getting that new Karsa set is going to be so epic.

Love the Beak scene! It is so powerful when (I am going from memory here) the Edur are confronted with the twisted sorcery preparing to die and one says to the group, "Look! One gives answer against it" and there is a enormous dome of light glowing.

Yep a K’rissan does. They have to make a break for it to get in the shadows of dome.

now Redmask and Anaster... and Tool.......

this book is epic

"You’ll see. Everyone will because you’re all my friends and friends are important. The most important thing in the world. And I’ll show you."

"This ain't your fight, storming dragon."

Another gem from Reaper's Gale:

A civilization shackled to the strictures of excessive control on its populace, from choice of religion through to the production of goods, will sap the will and the ingenuity of its people – for whom such qualities are no longer given sufficient incentive or reward. At face value, this is accurate enough. Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore, a kind of intransigence as fierce and nonsensical as its maternalistic counterpart.
And so, in the clash of these two extreme systems, one is witness to brute stupidity and blood-splashed insensitivity; two belligerent faces glowering at each other across the unfathomed distance, and yet, in deed and in fanatic regard, they are but mirror reflections. This would be amusing if it weren’t so pathetically idiotic…”

Okay so I managed to stop my Malazanv re-read long enough to read Angus Watson's Iron Age trilogy, which was interesting and funny but not really satisfying, and I can't help myself I HAVE TO READ REAPER'S GALE NOW ESP AFTER ALL YOUR COMMENTS.

I am weak.

I dream of a world where I can drop Malazan references as freely as LoTR and still have people know what I'm talking about.

Hah I wish, but I i think that this quote could apply to Steven Erikson as well as to it was originally intended CAS:

Smith (or Steven Erikson) always seemed, to me anyway, a special writer for special tastes; his fame was lonely. Whether or nor it will ever be more than lonely, I cannot say. Every writer is special in some way, and those who are more than ordinarily special are either damned or lost along the way.”

Right? My sister is stalled out on Gardens of the Moon (she just got a new nursing job, so that's a valid excuse), and my other main reading buddy is doing her first Stormlight read. Nobody understaaaands.

Finished RG. Starting CG. I think I enjoyed that more the 2nd time around and the 1st epic itself.

finally I will get around to finishing CG on this 3rd attempt.

I meant Crimson Guard lol

1st attempt I got 70ish pgs in and had to stop due to Star Wars EU book coming out. 2nd attempt I got to pg 478(my paper marker is still in that spot I just saw) and to stop due to Star Wars EU coming out. Will complete this time.

This book is one of those cases where timeline confuses me(yes I know they always say it doesn’t matter) with the matter of Ossric. He mentioned in HoC that he was recently just getting back in the mix to Loric but here he is still trapped. Maybe this part takes place before  that? I haven’t gotten very far in to see if other events have been mentioned yet.

Maybe I’m not remembering this right. Thought this Magnus was O but he was definitely of Serc. Cowl took him out. Only finished ch1 so far.

Spoiler

Magnus was channeling Osserc's power if I got it right. The Big O then goes inside of Kyle's sword.

Got my guild leader to change officer titles from "officer" to "Avowed."

Baby steps, lol.

Is that the same game where your user name is Ragstopper?

Yep. I ended up deleting the character due to mistakes I made though. Now I have a ship named Ragstopper and a little bird that flies by my head that I named Buke.

Guys, Skulldeath is such an underappreciated character. I wish there were more to his story. As soon as he popped up (ha, pun) in RG I nearly cheered.

Was he the prince or whatever who only slept with men but fought like crazy jumping through the air? Then he ends up chasing Hellian around I think?

The marines in Bonehunters and Reaper's Gale and then onward are some of my favorite characters from any source.
