Briar King Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 What a complete moment of brilliance. Anaster is sitting by a fire and an Awl elder comes and proceeds to for lack of anything better to describe it and not what he is trying to do, match wits with Anaster who tells him in one liners exactly what has befallen him since GotM and it is all so absurd sounding the elder spits in the fire and walks off. 1
Briar King Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 “The Malazans are coming! The Malazans are coming!” Twilight is the anti Paul Reviere. She’s just wanting to get out of dodge lol. Have been waiting for 7 whole books to get to this spot...Beak intro. Such a savant! The way he just knows things and tells people is such a treat. Just info bombed his squad about an Assail v Liosan skirmish spot they were standing on who knows how many hundreds of thousands of years ago and everyone is looking at him like he has lost his marbles. I still think he is likely the most powerful single mage of the series with his candles. 2
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 @Briar King Well now I'm thinking about Beak and his childhood and am sad. In other news, I am terrible and can't get off the Malazan train and just started my book 6 re-read. Corabb is the best thing. Leoman doesn't deserve him. "You are Leoman of the Feathers, and it shall be as you say." 2
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 @Briar King You shall lead us, Winged One, and we shall prevail! Lol, that's a great scene. @officiumdefunctorum I'm in the same boat. I was gonna take a break but now I'm on Memories of Ice. 2
Briar King Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I would have so loved to have him introed in a certain naval engagement..... Then again I think any more would have my emo up that much more. It’s already my most saddest deaths of the entire series 1

It was so terrible and pointless and I cried a lot. 1
Ammanas Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 I thought the deaths of: Spoiler Stormy and Gesler were tough. They have been with us since the second book. Their deaths on the Spire were heart wrenching. 2
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 @Ammanas For sure. But I can handle the heroic sacrifices and deaths in battle. The tragic or pointless or vaguely justified deaths just hurt. Like, I get the realistic element of it, but UGH. Spoiler Mappo, Dujek, Murillio, Gruntle... @TheOrlionThatComesBefore Still not as bad as Second Apocalypse, though I've yet to read Karkhanus... 2
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I thought that Spoiler Toc Anaster had a pretty sad death too. 2
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 @AngelEy3, well, yeah, but we also get to see Spoiler undead Tok, and he brings Hetan back to life and stuff, so his story doesn't just... end, like Trull. The Sengar family really got the shaft in this series.
Ammanas Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 @officiumdefunctorum Regarding the Sengar's Spoiler The Sengar family reminds so much of a Greek tragedy on par with Oedipus Rex and The Oresteia. 2
Briar King Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Still though there remained a ray of hope iirc. bun in the oven 1
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 True, but not really adequate recompense for my emotional suffering. 1
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Didn't catch it the first time, probably because the names weren't familiar yet, but Toc the Younger is the nephew of Catheron and Urko Crust. 2
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 That is indeed a thing! Speaking of things we missed. Concerning Kettle: the first time around it just kind of passed over my head that her "other body" Spoiler was the child born of Eres raping Trull Sengar. I seem to have erased it from my brain that the Eres is basically a time hopper. 1
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 (edited) Almost to the seige of Capustan and I have to say that so far MoI is still holding it's position as #1 for me upon my re-read. I feel like I'm really fleshing out more scenes in my mind this time around and catching so many things that seemed insignificant before. I ordered this today for the Christmas tree next year. Completely forgot about Kruppe standing down Caladan Brood's hammer swing. I like Kruppe more and more every time he's on stage. Edited February 23, 2018 by AngelEy3 1
Briar King Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I so can’t wait till the donkey charge! 2
Briar King Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Been really stepping my game up this past 2 weeks surprisingly even with watching 8-9 hrs a day Olympic coverage in my excitement to finish RG and get to my 3rd attempt of Return which will be successful this time. On page 555. Past few days have been so balling bringing back info. Hedges walk, Guerrilla warfare, Bast Fulmar, Chickens, Mael and his distant worshippers..., The Errants trap of Mael just when his friend needs him more then ever before. Phew! Twilight, Onracks time in Tellan pocket. Just so much epicness. 2
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 "Very well, permit me, if you will, on this night. To break your hearts once more." Pretty sure I cried more this time around than before... 1
officiumdefunctorum she/her Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I've managed to halt myself on RG and read something else. I'd forgotten how much went down right at the end of the Bonehunters, and how done with everyone's crap Fiddler is. He and Bottle are the best. 1
AngelEy3 he/him Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 (edited) Does The Last Siege of Y'Ghatan occur at the end of HoC or towards the front half of Bonehunters? Edited February 27, 2018 by AngelEy3
Briar King Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Bk 6. I think it is so far the single longest chapter of the series. It was 80+ pgs long. 2
