dendrophobe he/him Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I was just thinking about Bondsmiths, and their numbers. The traditional number has always been three, so we all started thinking about what spren those three could bond. Obviously the Stormfather is one, but there are all kinds of ideas for the other two. I think there’s only one more. Brandon has said (I’m on mobile so can’t retrieve it currently. Maybe someone can help with that?) that he considers the Heralds to be members of their respective orders, since they founded them. Unless I’m mistaken, we never were told that there were three Radiant Bondsmiths, only three Bondsmiths. Of which Ishar was one. Somewhat unrelated to this theory, I think both the others were bonded to the Stormfather.
Calderis he/him Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I personally think that there were three non-herald Bondsmiths. While Brandon considers them members of their order, I don't believe that the Radiants themselves would see them as a member of their ranks, but as someone set above them. 34 minutes ago, dendrophobe said: Somewhat unrelated to this theory, I think both the others were bonded to the Stormfather. As to this portion, we know it to be untrue. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/4r6ds5/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_3/d69n5a5/?context=3 Quote Ghodicu The pocket companion states that there are three spren that can bond a person to make them into a bondsmith, the Stormfather being one of them. As far as I recall the books implied that the number was low, and implied heavily that it was around that number in an epigraph, but didn't actually have a straight confirmation. So, should I take that as canon? Brandon Sanderson Yes, you can take that as canon. They came to me for that information. yahasgaruna Sweet. I guess it hasn't been canonized which three spren these are? I seem to recall that the prevailing theory on 17th Shard was that Nightwatcher was one of them, and the third was that weird spren with too many faces that Axies the Collector looked at in the tWoK interlude. Brandon Sanderson RAFO. This WoB also lends credence to the Heralds being separate, as Ishar would not have been bonded to a spren. 3
dendrophobe he/him Posted October 21, 2017 Author Posted October 21, 2017 Ah, you’re right on all counts. I had seen that WoB before, but it’s implications escaped my mind. Thanks for setting me straight!
CosmereAvair Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 It seems there are three main spren on Roshar, when Rock is talking about how the horn eater peaks were created he mentions the god of water (Stormfather), the god of trees (Culitvation), and Finally the god of earth (unknown). Side thing is that I think the leader of the horn eaters, a tana'kai was actually a bondsmith. 1
Hoids Imaginary Friend Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I came into this reading: Bondsmith numbers 3 replies I felt like sharing this Also.. Didnt it say somewhere that the storm father was one of the few / only one to survive the recreance? Wouldnt that suggest that some of these.. god spren have died? !~ HIF ~! 2
