So are there any books do you know of where the Author's preferred edition makes a huge difference for you?

I was thinking about this question while reading James Clavell's King Rat. The new edition includes p.o.v's of the women of the soldiers in the p.o.w camp. I am divided on the inclusion of these sections bc I think that, while they are interesting, it does diminish the pacing of the book.

The only book that comes to mind where the the expanded edition is a big improvement is Magician by Feist. I believe the expanded version of Milamber's view from the tower enhances the book.
