I personally really like it, and it was also what got me into web comics. I also highly advice people to read the what ifs, as they contain a lot of interesting science things, while keeping the humor of the standard xkcd. Also, I don't have a real preference for specific comics, but if I have to decide, I would choose anything with Black Hat in it.

I have a sad tale to share.  I bought the what if book on a whim before I really knew much about Randall Munroe.  It was only later I discovered that EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the book was posted on Munroe's what if website.  I will recommend taking a look at the what ifs.  Ever wondered what would happen if you threw a baseball at 90% the speed of light?  The answer is here:

not every single page.  there are a handful of book exclusives.  That said, as much as I tend to enjoy the webcomic (today's included the phrase "a universe where snakes are wide instead of long" which is just such a completely absurd image I can't help but love it) the What-if articles are definitely better.
