Hey there everyone! This is my first post, although I have lurked on here for a little while. I stumbled across something while browsing the forum and some things I noticed on my most recent read through of the books.

Essentially the idea is that Kaladin was bonded with syl long before either of them remembered. This might be because Syl disobeyed in bonding with Kaladin and has memory problems. Bascally this comes form a bunch of different things that I've found, but the two main points are:

In a flashback where Kaladin and his mother and brother are sitting on their roof during the weeping, he mentions something about he always hated the weeping because it was harder for him to find motivation to do things. Could this be because there wasn't any stormlight for him to be refreshed by?

Also the whole thing he said to Szeth when they were fighting about the skies being his since birth.

I don't know, its just something weird I noticed. I don't know if there was a post discussing this already. So I apologize if someone already brought it up.

This could make sense because we learn that shallan was also bonded with pattern for longer than we thought. Even if she didn't fully know it. Also we learn at one point that the reason he was always so good with the spear was because of the stormlight enhancing the skill, and then when sly leaves him we see he isn't quite as good at the spear.

Wait you are mixing things together.

Shallan was bonded with Pattern from very young. But She were an High level Radiant ad child. At least to the actual Kaladin's level (well now She is Beyond Kal as a Radiant). Shallan suppressed her own memories about Pattern of her own Radiancy

Returning to Kaladin, I really doubt Syl was bonded to a child Kal, First of all we saw Kal feel the Thrill as a child, something stopped by the Nahel Bond. We also know that Kal suffers of depression (not only for Tieni, Kal is genetic open to Depression). Lastly Kal as child ad nothing of the mindset to attract an Honorspren.

I think he started his bonding during his time in Amaram's army. This would be the first time where he really showed himself to be honorable, putting himself on the line for inexperienced youths, sparing injured enemies and the like. This is also supported by Syl's memories, she says she remembers his time in the army but vaugely. I think this means it was early on in her development rather than years after following him around. His comments about the skies being his could just be a bluff or boast. It could also be a belief or subconscious ideas that the sky is his birthright as a Windrunner. Also possibly his ability of storm riding may give him the impression that he has a great ability to move about in the air.
