maxal she/her
The title says it all. I have a bad cold and turns out I'll need to visit the doctor tomorrow which means waiting. For a long time. And tragedy: I have absolutely nothing to read. All books I have in my recommendation list are either unavailable or I am waiting for them to transit to me I thus need something which would be readily available on my local library shelves, today. Preferable something not too complicated, not too big and easy to get into. So shoot your suggestions and I'll check one of those turns out being available. This will be hard, my local library is very small: I usually have to have them deliver the books from another library. Or if you have an absolute love at first sight event with a book I might find at the local book store which would fit the criteria of short, easy to get into and not complicated (not a 1000 pages brick: I have many books to read so I do not want to spend the next 5 weeks reading a large one). So help? I can't go to the doctor without a book... I'll have to hang myself but really, this cough isn't going away.
Zathoth
Quick look around in my room: The Ocean At The End Of The Lane or Coraline by Neil Gaiman... in case you havent read those. The King in Yellow by Robert W Chambers. Childhoods End by Arthur C Clarke. Possibly some short story collections, like something by Poe or Lovecraft. I doubt a tiny library has Thomas Ligotti, but you might be lucky.
Sunbird she/her
Ok I have a few suggestions of some of my favorite books that might be available at your library (and if not the library, then Barnes and Noble): The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins The Mistletoe Promise by Richard Paul Evans The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielsen Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes Jackaby by William Ritter The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells I don't think any of these are longer than about 400 pages, and the only one that's not even remotely fantasy is The Mistletoe Promise. (I assume fantasy is your preferred genre since this is the Shard.) I hope you find something you like.

I feel like I am catching my death. I basically had to stop all my training which is a pain Thanks for the suggestions all: unfortunately nothing was readily available In the end, my husband took pity on me and drove downtown to get me Promise of Blood which I have been meaning to read, but was discouraged by it not being available at the library. So I am set for reading, but I couldn't get an appointment at the doctor for today I'll probably have to cough until next Sunday. I can't miss out work.
