Shin and Spren

I hope this isn't some already pointed.

But as far as I remember Szeth didn't never attract a Spren (regular Spren like angerspren, painspren,ecc...).

I know that Shinovar is a place without Spren (indeed is hard to understand if there are no spren or simply the spren are invisible there) but is it possible that its popolation is also uncapable of attracting Spren (as Connection to her homeland) ?

The problem here is the only Shin out of his country (as far as I remember) is Szeth and he has some oddity with him....Therefore is not really "standard Shin".

If this is true, it's possible that many Shin choose to not leave Shinovar as defence aganist expose this strange features of their people.

PS: As side, enigma....Do WorldHoppers on Roshar, attract Spren ?

I can't see what you mean is odd about Szeth (in the context of this thread). He looks like an ordinary shin.

Well He carried an Honorblade and this may be (or not) a factor in spren absence

I know this could just be the obvious explanation, but could it be that Szeth just didn't notice them? He seems more experienced than Kaladin in these matters, which could mean that he takes some things a little more for granted. The guy is also going through a lot, which would definitely distract from some things which he may consider minor...

To be honest I considerate this option. But I feel unlikely when He is in another PoV.

For example, when He discovers that Kal is a Surgebinder. Szeth is really afraid but no Painspren is mentioned from Kal's PoV

Interesting. If Shinovar is a place without spren, then how come the Shin worship/revere the spren of stone?

Quote

“Who are you?” Szeth asked.

“You spend this long obeying the precepts of your people and religion, yet you fail to recognize one of your gods?”

“My gods are the spirits of the stones,” Szeth whispered. “The sun and the stars. Not men.”

“Nonsense. Your people revere the spren of stone, but you do not worship them.

- Words of Radiance, Chapter 88 (Between Szeth and Nale)

I suppose this has to do with them not treading on stone. Maybe they believe there are spren hiding in the stone even if they cannot see them?

Indeed it's possible, there are much mistery in their religion and how the Stone Shamans fit in Roshar's events.

You have also to remember that on Roshar the world Spren has a wide uses than the ones we give to it. It's possible that He talk about some "beings" not strictly Spren.

(There is a WoB as Shard or Adonalsium that would be called "Spren" by Roshar's popolation)

The Shin Stone Shamans obviously have a secret when it comes to spren and the Knights Radiant as a whole.  Szeth was told by them when he was exiled that the Knights Radiant are fallen and that they are all that remains.  Then they exiled him from the Valley of Truth, naming him Truthless.

Truth seems to be a recurring theme here, it is also mentioned by Jasnah at one point as well as, "Truth" with a capital T so it must have some significance.  We do know, I can't remember where it was mentioned so feel free to correct me, that the Spiritual Realm is a place of absolute truth.  This could tie into the spirits of the stone that Szeth constantly mentions.  Spren are Cognitive representations of things but they should have a presence of some sort in the Spiritual Realm just as humans do.

shins probably revere the spren of stone which is the spren of the stonewards order. the leading theory is that stonewards were the 10th order that did not abandon their duty. maybe the "great subterfuge" was to go to shinovar, where are no spren, so that everyone would think their spren is dead. maybe spren are just invisible in shinovar.

shins are not incapable of attracting a spren - there were shin kr in the past, and there are many that think szeth himself will end up being a proper KR

Truthless - it's possible the cause of the recreance is connected to the fact that the Heralds lied when saying that humans won. maybe stonewards believed them, and passed this to the shin people. Thus, the Truth is that the Heralds told the truth (and humans won). Szeth discovered that a new desolation is on the way, and became Truthless (e.g. one who believes the heralds lied, one who does not believe the Truth). This is very probable since the shin also hold the Honorblades - they probably believe that the Heralds told them the Truth and left them the Honorblades as proof or something along these lines.

Like in the whole Cosmere except Roshar.

There may be a difference between Sentient Spren and Stupid ones...Sentient Spren actually traslate into the physical to search a Knight, Stupid Ones are still in the Cognitive and "spawn" for a while in the Physical when some "event" attract them (the right emotion or phenomen).

I have to search but we have a WoB who said the Recreance was not a conseguence of Herald's actions in the Last Desolation
