Mistborn739 she/her Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Alright, so I like to think that I have some extensive knowledge of how Allomancy and Feruchemy work, but the thing I never understood was how Feruchemical Steel works. When tapping steel, you become much faster (physically). Does your mental speed have a proportional increase to make up for your increased speed? Or do you see everything pass you as a blur and risk running into walls due to the fact that you can't process information fast enough? Additionally, would tapping both steel and zinc essentially "slow down time" for everyone but you?
The One Who Connects he/him Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) There is this topic, and the first post has links to several related F-Steel debates. Edit: Mental Speed is stored in Zinc, so it probably isn't affected by F-Steel. But so far, we really don't know for sure Edited August 24, 2016 by The One Who Connects
Mistborn739 she/her Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Thanks for the link, but since steel is categorized as "physical realm", would your mind expand to keep up with your physical speed? And if not, could you then use zinc to speed up your mind, making it seem as though you are moving normally, but everyone else is slowed down, much like a bendalloy bubble?
The One Who Connects he/him Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 You should read some of the threads linked in that link i showed you. I'm sure at least one of them has thought of something similar, and they understand the physics of the stuff better than I do
Landis963 he/him Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 The Threads have most of it, but here's the Cliffsnotes version: F-Steel, in addition to granting physical superspeed, also grants enhanced reaction time. I believe there is also some physics cheating that happens so that, say, friction doesn't burn you, your shoes, the floor, etc. F-Zinc, speeds your mental thought processes but only your mental thought processes; can't get twitch timing from F-Zinc, but can analyze every possible outcome of, say, a chess scenario in an instant. Also aids in making mental leaps ("Turns you into Ken Jennings" I believe is the WoB). If they were onscreen, it would be a similar bullet-time effect, but F-Steel would be the character moving at normal speed during the effect, and F-Zinc would be the character inner-monologuing at normal speed during the effect.
The One Who Connects he/him Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 @Landis963 Are we going back to The Flash and Sherlock Holmes again?

Magestar he/him Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Yeah, I litterally just put up a huge theory on this. That's what The One Who Connects linked you to. It's pretty comprehensive. There are still a few problems, but it + what was said here should help answer your questions. If you have more, you could always ask in that thread.
